Donna Lawson for LPSC

Councillor for LPSC. Opinions on this page are my own personal views and do not represent LPSC. My husband and I run a construction business.

Quirindi is my hometown and I have a strong connection with the land and our community. I am passionate about maintaining and growing the facilities and services for our shire and being financially sustainable into the future. I understand the need to support the economic growth and development of our region while also protecting our thriving agricultural industry and country lifestyle. I will als

conference 2023. As usual a lot of the business items were very city centric, and the prioritisation of some motions was questionable! But I managed to get to speak a couple of times so that was something. Essential that we keep putting our rural voice forward so they don’t forget we are here.

These are the exact issues that are burdening our Shire. It is wonderful to receive grants for capital projects, however, the depreciation of these assets going forward affects our operational financial sustainability “on paper”. Even more outrageous is that councils are being forced to recognise the depreciation of Rural Fire Service assets that they do not purchase or control. This is going to be even more significant as many RFS brigades have been priveleged to purchase more assets from the incredible amount of donations following the black summer bushfires.

CHRISTMAS SPIRIT LIGHTS UP AT QUIRINDI COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE

The Liverpool Plains Shire Council will be getting into the spirit by lighting up a brand-new Community Christmas Giving Tree in the forecourt of the Quirindi Library and Community Hub on Wednesday evening, 15 December from 5pm to 7pm.

There is an open invitation to the community to the event with a free sausage sizzle from the volunteers from the Quirindi Lions Club and Santa is arriving at 6pm to chat with the children and to hand out some treats.

Council is also inviting community members to bring along an unwrapped gift to go under the Giving Tree to support the CWA and St Vincent de Paul Society, Quirindi this Christmas.

Council’s General Manager Jo Sangster said the Christmas Tree and community event on Wednesday will be a great chance for families and their friends to get together just before the Christmas holiday break.

“With the restrictions this year imposed by Covid-19 and other events like the flooding, it will be a great time to relax,” she said.

Contact Council’s Administration Centre on 6746 1755 for more information.

Although my profile in the paper today captured my passion for our community, there were a few key things that were misinterpreted, or changed. The only time I worked in real estate was when I was studying for my undergraduate degree, most of my working life has been as an Accountant. For the last 6 years I have managed our family building company. I have lived in Quirindi and surrounds ALL my life.
