Another Olympic distance down in China! Very exciting race from start to finish. 30mins before we started the swim there was lightning and thunder all around and pouring with rain. The race organisers were completely unfazed however and right on schedule the clouds moved off and we lined up to get going. Next problem though, was that in the crazy water conditions, the start carpet was getting washed out to sea, so standing sideways to keep it from washing out, from nowhere a horn was blown and off we went. After leading most of the swim I managed to miss the wave onto the beach and somehow came out about 10th. An 800m run straight uphill awaited us out of the water and on to the bike we went. The normal 40km bike distance was extended to 4 laps around the island to make up 45km with around 650m of elevation. The first 3 laps were nice and hard and a group of about 10 was formed (lots of sandbagging on the last lap). Out onto the run I lead out the first 5km. Fan JJ and I opened up a healthy 15second lead however Furuya had other ideas and closed us back down at around 8km, along with Coggins who unfortunately had to serve a penalty soon after. The last 2km the pace picked up significantly, however it seemed a sprint would decide the win. With 400m to go I opened up the jets and went for it, a 200m uphill finish awaited me… and an eternity later we got there. What a race!
Also major shoutout to Tara Sos who also grabbed her first conti cup win in the women’s after a full solo race out front! Impressive
Off to Europe now with the French Div1 Grand Prix this weekend. Some unfinished business from last year... let’s get it!

Also a cheeky 5km pb on the day as well. Keen to be back to Australia now for a month of work leading into Oceania Championships in Port Douglas at the end of May!

Second Asian trip for the year done. First two world cups out of the way and very happy with both races, especially with the 8th place in Miyazaki. Lovely places and nice strong races, I’ll be back to South Korea and Japan again for sure.
For now though, all eyes on U23 World Championships in Abu Dhabi, in just over 3 weeks!
Awesome effort for 8th from Oscar Dart today in Miyazaki World Cup!
It was Oscar’s second World Cup race for Australia.
His application applications to learning and applying himself to the process from the first World Cup two weeks ago was first class.

Unfortunately a substitute podium photo required as the coach had Oscar running hard off the bike during presentation time - oops.
Some action from the Netherlands on the weekend. Lovely town and a strong field too! Good race for me after a little break between races. Hungary coming in two weeks 🇭🇺

Snagged an A grade crit win this morning at Lakeside. Solo bridged to the two man break, rolled until the group was out of sight then pulled a sprint out of somewhere to get the win. Textbook stuff hahah! Lovely morning for it! 🙌

Finished off the ride camp yesterday with another lovely ride out the back of the Sunshine Coast. 500km on the bike in 4 days or 580km in 5 with a fair share of rain, fog, sunshine and good vibes with the lads. 10/10 would recommend!
