A multi-storey construction is turning heads in Launceston’s CBD — the building is made almost entirely from timber.
The 28-metre-high structure is going up fast, in fact, a lot faster than ones made from traditional building products like steel and concrete.
“The speed of construction has been the biggest eye-opener for us. We erected five levels of mass timber in three months… if that was traditional concrete and steel it would have been at least double that," Fairbrother’s build manager Marcus Perkins said.

Natural, productive and efficient. Cusp is the way towards a greener future.
Tasmanian Plantation Oak grows quickly; Harvestable in short 15-year rotations, compared to 25-30 years for softwood plantations, Tasmanian Plantation Oak provides a unique set of opportunities.
Faster growing trees means faster absorption of carbon, and faster rotations mean more building stock more often to lock that carbon up into the built environment.
Cusp Engineered Timber Products: Benchtops
Our stable and strong Cusp Benchtops are made from grandis plantation oak. Pressed in our large structural press using PUR glue ensures no off-gassing residues.
Our benchtops are glue laminated at thicknesses of 33, 43 and 68 mm. We make standard sizes of 300, 450, 600 and 900mm with 1200mm made as a special order. Our lengths are 1.8m to 4.8m at standard intervals utilising solid timbers and finger jointed material out to 7.2m (finger joints not seen on top of bench).
