Getting ready for this weekend 🥰✨🏳️‍🌈

12/09/2022

It’s been a long process getting my new kiln going due to technical issues and my tendency to go very slow with new machines - yesterday was the first full bisque load I put on. So exciting!! Now I will put all the pieces I have made recently in a few bisque loads and then get my glazing together, all the while working on some pieces for an exhibition in October - time to move on it!

Happy weekend to you 💖 Here’s a pic of how my apron is showing up today. My youngest reckons this photo looks like a painting of some mountains across the water. I can sorta see it and also not - do you see it?

I made a little version of a vase I made when I was ten years old. Swipe to see the original. I was sgraffitoing back then and didn’t even realise it! 🥰

I’m really excited about this beautiful vase I made ☺️. You will be able to make it yours tomorrow (Monday) 14 March at 4pm AEDT when my shop updates with a few nature-inspired items. I have uploaded everything that will be available to my website so go have a look if you like! Link in bio!

What have I done? I have to paint and sgraffito all these vessels, plus 12 more brown clay ones, by Tuesday morning, when they are booked in to go into the kiln. This is where I’ll be for the next 48 hours or more. Maybe I’ll do a live. Maybe that would be fun. Come see my stories where I will put a suggestion box for your painting ideas. 😁

It’s been almost two months since my last shop update so it feels like absolutely aaages since I’ve had fresh pieces out of the kiln. It looks like I’ll have these ones all shiny and colourful and food safe by tomorrow and be able to open my shop either on Sunday or Monday. I’m wondering which day suits you?
~
Have a look at the poll in my stories if you want to vote - you can vote whether you think you’ll buy anything or not - it would be very useful to me to know just generally what you prefer. Thank you! 🙃
~
The question in my stories - Does a shop update on Sunday night or Monday night suit you better?

I’m so excited to glaze these beauties tomorrow! All going well, my shop will be updating before the month is out! Watch this space!

Happy New Year! Here is my for 2021. Your love and support has meant the world to me over the first three months of my business - thank you so so much 🥰❤️🌼. I’m really excited for 2022 and all the things I’ll be making for you, as well as streamlining my processes and sharing more of day-to-day life in the studio. I should even have my own brand new kiln by the end of May 🎉🎉🎉 - very exciting!

Big news - my shop update is going ahead on THURSDAY 2 DEC at 4pm AEDT - that’s this Thursday! I was so busy painting pieces that I forgot to get any good pics of them, so here’s the one photo I managed haha! This will be on sale on my website (link in my bio) on Thursday arvo. I should have some pics up of all this month’s pieces by Wednesday night so you can check out the goods before they go live. 🤗

A bud vase for tiny flowers!
~
I’m so excited about these new vases I ran out in the rain to take a picture of it for you. They are for those little flowers you get given by your little love-heart children, or maybe you like to pick tiny flowers like I do?
~
I 💙 these bud vases so much that I’m going to have trouble putting them up for sale. Luckily I will make more, because I only have two at the moment and I need at least two for all the little flowers I pick on my walks.
~
So these will be on my website next week when I update the shop (probably 1 or 2 Dec, I’ll let you know). I can’t wait!
~

Sunflowers - thanks for the suggestion - you know who you are 😘. This will go into its first firing on Wednesday and I’ll have things in the shop next week sometime! Exact date TBC. Can’t wait to see this one all white and shiny ✨

And the winner of the Spiral Ceramics design competition is…the animals! It was a close race with the Stone Splash mug getting lots of love, but eventually the animals outdid the more abstract design by a few votes.
~
Thanks so much to everyone who voted, it was great to see which designs were more popular - I certainly got a few surprises which is really helpful because I’m so close to the designs that I’m a bit blinkered as to what might work and what might not. I also get emotionally attached to certain designs because of what they mean to me, and even though they might not be the most well-liked, I’m still going to persevere with them.
~
Anyway, thank youououou!!! And if anyone has their eye on that whale, it’s going to be available in my next shop update, which will be in the next two weeks or so! I’m so excited to show you everything that I’ve been making! 😝

Just a few of the pendants I have been creating for my late November/early December shop update. After their second firing these pretties will be shiny and each will be strung with an adjustable cord. Can’t wait to show you the finished pendants!

Interesting sentiment. Do you agree? I think it’s helpful in a lot of cases, but in others it’s important to know that quitting is reasonable and good. Glennon Doyle has a lot to say about this on her podcast, ‘We Can Do Hard Things’.
~
I feel like I have achieved so much over the last month for this new business…making and decorating all these vessels for Claytober, organising and re-organising my work stations, setting up the website, opening the shop for the first time, getting my first in-person and online orders, my first commission, booking my first market, and taking a couple of shelves in an exciting new local gallery. Quitting is so far from my mind that it’s ludicrous to think of - I’m full-steam ahead and excited about all the things in the future that will come to be through hard work and perseverance, and rest when it’s needed. I like to remember that whatever I do in the present directly affects my future, and the only person and place I can control is me, now. So here I am, showing up every day even though sometimes (a lot of the time) it’s scary, and also loving it so much, I just want to do it forever.
~
You folks have been so lovely and supportive over the last weeks, and I’m very appreciative of all your likes and comments and messages (and orders 😘) so a big THANK YOU from me.
~
If you like, pop over to my stories, there is a series of polls pitting the designs against each other in an informal, totally non-scientific but fun competition. Hehe.
~
Here’s to all you lovely people, and here’s to the freedom to quit whenever we want, but also choosing to be inspired by these words of Kevin Hart’s if and when we feel it will help. 🥂
