Sometimes being a tutor is about making playdough π...
I made a fresh batch this morning to try to better model fractions over zoom with one of my students.
I've been learning a lot about modelling lately and have started to see just how beneficial it can be for students. You could say seeing is believing π
Modelling can easily connect concepts to the real world.
Fractions are about pizza, cake and glasses half or three-quarters full of juice.
Fractions are delicious π
Fractions are about budgeting, if 7/10 are for expenses, how much money is left for saving and spending?π€
Fractions are about time, quarter-past, half-past, quarter-to, "am I late for work?" β°πββοΈπΌπ
I could go on all day, but I'll leave you with a playdough recipe instead π
1 cup flour
3/8 cup salt
1/2 tbsp oil
1/4 cup water
food colouring optional π¨
*Larger version of the same recipe found at: https://youtu.be/C2ytbSa3mPg
Glad to be adding this colourful collection to my tutor's toolbox for future sessions.
