Contact information, map and directions, contact form, opening hours, services, ratings, photos, videos and announcements from Ellishea Golden Retrievers, Dog Breeder, .
I currently train and compete in retrieving trials, I breed Golden Retrievers to be driven and bold but most importantly soft natured with a strong desire to please
They've Arrived!
Unfortunately we've gone from a litter of 12 last time to just 5...and one was born dead. It's the side of breeding I truly hate, knowing there will be some very disappointed people.
However we have a very healthy crew of a girl and 3 boys. Maya is doing exceptionally well and is a very devoted and protective Mum.
My apologies to those hoping for a pup. Just keep following the site for future litters.

A lot of truth to all of this. Being a breeder is a commitment most aren’t willing to do.
POTENTIAL OWNER: How much is the puppy?
BREEDER: $2500+ dollars.
POTENTIAL OWNER: What?? It's way too expensive!!
BREEDER: What do you think would be a good price?
POTENTIAL OWNER: No more than $500. You breeders are so over priced.
BREEDER: I am sorry you see it this way, why don't you try it yourself?
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I've never done it!
BREEDER: For FREE I can teach you how to do it, and in addition you will have the knowledge to do it again.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Perfect, thank you!
BREEDER: To start you will need a female(average cost $3500 and up)and a male(average cost $3500 and up) or semen (average $2000-$2500 and up). You will need to do genetic & health testing on them, averages about $800+ per dog.
Lets not forget progesterone testings, inseminations, ultrasounds, x-rays, semen collections, semen analysis, potentially semen overnight shipping and so on ($1500+).
Raise and provide daily care, feeding & grooming for 2 years. (minimal $250 per month) Oh, don’t forget monthly prevention, annual vet visits and any other additional vet visits.
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have that much money...
BREEDER: For $1200 you can raise a litter and then keep one of the puppies. Obviously, you will pay the cost of whelping & care.
POTENTIAL OWNER: I can do that.
BREEDER: OK so I have a female due to whelp in 2 weeks. You will need to be available 24/7 around the clock for at least 8 weeks to help with delivery and care. ( a million loads of laundry) Another 4 plus weeks to monitor mom and puppies.
POTENTIAL OWNER: twelve weeks?? it's way too much time for me! I have to work.
BREEDER: Plus You will need to be available for puppy families to call you 24/7 with a worry or concern no matter the age. You Must also be ready to take back the puppy/dog at any age if the family has a unforseen emergency.
BREEDER: You will also need the reproductive vet to do progesterone testing($110/ test ) X-ray to get head count ($100) & C-section($1000-$5000 if needed) and initial vet care on pups until old enough to be placed ($800+).
Have on hand a scale, thermometer, latex gloves, puppy pads, incubator, oxygen concentrator, nebulizar, heating lamp, whelping box, puppy pen, blankets, toys, bowls, cleaning supplies, appropriate food with supplements for mothers, formula, medications & hand feeding supplies in case of emergency....
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have all these things!
BREEDER: For $5000+ you can buy them.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Ummm .... You know, I think it might be better if I just buy a puppy.
BREEDER: Wise decision.
For us, there are no vacations or holidays, while you go to visit with family & friends we are home at our dogs side caring for them. It is a no breaks commitment.
THIS IS THE REALITY
When you choose a reputable person, you aren’t only purchasing the puppy but also: knowledge, support , experience, love, time, sacrifices, etc...
**Plus the cost of life time support to the puppy owners…
These numbers are just the tip of the iceberg (best case scenario!!!) as a reputable breeder who takes on this journey full time!
Very well said…

Fabulous feature of Ellishea Hamish's Nelson on Dogswest online Connect. Such a handsome talented boy!
What an Ellishea Easter!
I competed in the Peter Reekie All Age Retrieving Trial in WA with 2 of my dogs. RTCh Ellishea Wyatt's Flash CM and Ellishea Rips Stormgirl (her 1st AA Trial) We managed a double with Flash 1st and Maya (Stormgirl) 2nd. Maya also completed the trial on Sunday.
In Victoria Jacqui Russo ran her boy, Ellishea Phoenixs Dark Knight in his first Novice and scored a 1st. What a start to a great career and testament to the training she's put into her dog from Day 1
On the same day Ray Temple scored a 2nd in All Age with RTCh Ellishea Rips Rebel.
The following day Jim Hargreaves scored a 3rd place with his dog RTCh EllisheaRips Chevrolet.
Simon Innes also scored a 1st in Novice Jumping 600 and Novice Snooker with his dog Ellishea Hamish's Nelson
What an amazing weekend. Congratulations everyone.
Never Rains but it Pours!!
The expected litter went from predicted 4-6 to just 1 delivered caesarian section on Friday. Others were all absorbed. Very sad but unfortunately happens from time to time. The small pup was successfully transferred to Bella and was SMALLER than the newborn -as you can see in the photo - in spite of the extra feeds. Unfortunately she only lasted another night. Sad but not destined to live.
However we now have 9 very healthy pups! At least 3 will go to Assistance and Therapy work and the rest to pet homes.

Please. For the love of dogs everywhere, stop taking everything out of your puppies mouth. You’re often creating more problems than you’re solving.
Puppies put everything in their mouths the way newly crawling or walking babies do. It’s the age of exploration and discovery and inquisitive little minds with teething little mouths means everything must be tasted. This is 100% normal developmental behavior. It shouldn’t be punished or discouraged.
When we sn**ch things out of their mouths, or chase them or grab it away from them, we run the risk of several issues, the top two being -
1. We teach our puppy that anything they have could be lost the second a human comes near, and that can very quickly snowball into resource guarding - which is already a natural behavior - but we are actually just encouraging it by validating to our puppy that they lose things when we are around. This is especially true in homes with children and toys out all the time. Then this spirals into all kinds of relationship issues down the road.
2. We can teach our puppy the best thing they can do is INHALE the item so they don’t lose it. This gets dangerous and ugly very quickly. It can also create puppies and dogs to then not even think but just grab consume.
Leaves, sticks, grass, mud, dust bunnies, socks (depending on your puppies size), shoes, all the things within reach are fair game for mouthing and chewing on. And yes, I let my puppies explore them all. Their teeth and jaws at this infantile stage aren’t going to do extreme harm to an item right now, so go head and feel what a shoe sole feels like, get it out of your system. If I don’t want certain things explored, I keep those things out of reach, end of story. Management and supervision is key to safety at this age. Baby gates, playpens, even only pottying in areas of the yard where there’s no gravel. The ONLY things I will readily tackle my puppy over is medicine and/or broken glass. Everything else, even if it’s something I truly don’t want them to have, like a pair of underwear or a doll, I take my time in retrieving it, but more often than not, the puppy will spit it out anyway and move on to graze on the next thing they can find, especially if I toss something more interesting nearby. (Drop that stick to come chase this leaf on the ground)
The majority of puppies will explore the item with their mouth, shred it if they can, then move on to something else to repeat this process with. IF they consume any of it, it’s usually very minor and they will p**p it out later. We have to remember dogs have been existing for 18,000 years, 80% of them still living the way they always have, and going through this stage just fine, our human interventions are not always needed, even though we mean well and are trying to help.
Of course there are exceptions to this, and in those cases we have other solutions, but the majority of puppies I see exploring with their mouths DONT a need hands constantly grabbing them and removing it out of their jaws. If you find yourself doing that all the time, it may be on YOU to manage the environment better!
This process combines with the work we teach in all our puppy classes of having a puppy HAPPY to have you approach them when they are enjoying something in their mouth. We call it the “exchange game” where we teach how to trade. But we also teach the puppy we don’t always take it away either. This helps puppies feel safe in letting you take something from them by learning they won’t ALWAYS lose it.
So, long story short, let your puppy - puppy. Grab a leaf, lay in the grass and shred it. Then find a stick to chew on. We have to get better at picking our battles with dogs if we are both as a species going to enjoy our time together.
Editing this post to add - I’d hope it would be obvious but apparently it’s not, so please know in no way shape or form am I encouraging or saying it’s okay to let your puppy chew or mouth dangerous objects or to leave them unsupervised in places that may have serious objects in them. Environments have to be managed just the same way they are for babies, as I mentioned above, and puppies/dogs need to be supervised. I am however, stating that we have to stop helicoptering around puppies that are just being puppies in order to help alieviate some of the behavior problems that develop from not the managing itself; but the micro managing.
Lady in Waiting.
Bella has come to stay for her imminent delivery. Litter is due Wednesday/Thursday.
Pups are available.
Talk about determined!
Little pup is still hanging in by her toe nails. She's so tiny compared to the others but is obviously very feisty! Feeding her every 2 hours with a tube down her throat and having to give her subcutaneous fluids to try to combat dehydration. Others are "fatty boombars" in comparison! You go girl!!!
Raising Pups Ain't Easy!
I've usually had an easy time with my previous litters but this one is throwing up challenges! One pup is requiring a lot of extra feeding but is a stubborn little blighter. She's holding her own while the others roar ahead. Need lots of good vibes folks!
Surprise, surprise!
With yesterdays delivery being complicated by the weak pup I managed to do Maya a disservice! She actually delivered 12 pups! Unfortunately the weak pup died today but we still have 10 healthy pups. 6 females and 4 males. Maya is settling in to her new role as mother very well.....her hooning days are over for the time being. Amazing effort for a maiden bitch with frozen semen!
Early Bird Maya delivered today!
Not due until Monday but she'd had enough. Delivered 11, sadly one dead at birth and another weak but the rest thriving.
Two Litters Due!
I'm very proud to announce that Ellishea Rips Stormgirl (Maya) and Ellishea Wyatts Bella are both pregnant to Aust Champion Swiftreve Just Me(Jamie).
Maya is due to produce at least 8 pups on 30th January and Bella 4-6 on 15th February.
Several will be going to Assistance and Therapy Dogs Australia (CSTDA) a project I'm very committed to.
A very exciting time and a full house very shortly. Some pups still available
Some of My Pride and Joy
Here's a video of 5 puppies I bred that will fly to Melbourne next week to begin training for Service Personnel suffering PTSD and others with neurological problems including epilepsy.
The Solitary Pup
Top WA Retrieving Dog 2019
Very proud of Grand Retrieving Trial Champion Ellishea Just Cussy CM (Phoenix). He just received his award for Top WA Retrieving Dog for 2019! at Dogswest AGM. That makes it his 3rd award for 3 consecutive years. He's certainly a challenging dog to handle but he's also the best mate a person could wish for. Wouldn't be without him!
Pending DogsWest approval, Roui now holds his NRD retrieving title ❤️ thank you to our lovely judge and the Gundog Club of WA for putting on the very first trial after such a shaky start to the year.
Roui and I were also very fortunate to take home the Brinn Memorial Trophy. Funnily enough, this trophy pays tribute to Brinn, a golden retriever who was trialled by Val Rayner in the 80’s. On the back of the trophy, the bio reads that Brinn was the epitome of the loving, laid back golden. Very fitting that it was awarded to Roui.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me get into this sport - you know who you are! And you’re all very much appreciated.
Lastly, thanks to Roui for being such an awesome first retrieving dog. You always come with your game face on, but are never the type to take life too seriously. Thanks bud 😘
An awesome day a the office with Flash taking out 1st Place and Phoenix 2nd Place
Family Reunion
Had the pleasure of meeting up with a puppy owner to do some training today.
Meet Koda a Phoenix son. He and Flash picked up right where they left off before pup left home. So impressed by the work already put into Koda. A very impressive retriever already!!
Latest Ellishea Litter.
Just proving dog breeding is not that easy our latest litter delivered by Caesarean on Tuesday consists of a solitary female. She's proving to be quite feisty and Mums very devoted. Here's hoping future litters are just a tad bigger!!!
This is Fun!
A little bit of outdoor exercise around the wood heap with Aunty Flash to add a bit of fun. Dad Phoenix was less willing to join in the fun as pups seemed to consider his 'dangly bits' a possible source of milk!!😂😂😂 They look so pale in colour but will all end up with such a rich gold colour. Mother Nature is amazing
This is a video that has been produced by the National Golden Retriever Council, a must watch for all potential puppy buyers for what you should look for when purchasing a puppy.

Been a hard day at the office for one litter of pups!!!
Ellishea Litter
Another Ellishea litter was born on 25th March 2020. Father is Grand Retrieving Trial Champion Ellishea Just Cussy (Phoenix) and mother Ellishea Rips Nala. Pups are doing very well with three females to be trained by Dogs for Life for Assistance work. So very pleased to be able to provide suitable pups for this great cause.
Team Hargreaves - Chapter 3
Beginning 2020 and Jim starts off with a bang!
The Gippsland Retrieving Club of Victoria held an All Age Trial on 23rd February which young Max won quite convincingly. Incredible achievement for such a young dog in such a competitive field!
The following weekend the Voctorian Gundog Club held a trial and this time Chevy shone winning on the Saturday and coming 4th on the Sunday.
What an incredible team and a true testament to the incredible trainer and handler, Jim. Sincere congratulations for such oustanding achievements.
Team Hargreaves - Chapter 2!!!
Returning from the Nationals Jim was not about to rest on his laurels.
The only trials remaining for the year were for Novice and Restricted dogs so Jim entered Max in the German shorthaired Pointer Trial in Yea and Max won first place giving him his Restricted Retrieving Dog title. So Max had gone from beginning in Novice at the start of the year to gaining his Restricted title by the end.
The Hargreaves Team.
It takes a lot to keep some people down and I very much doubt that they are down.....just saving it all for when the Trials begin again.
Jim Hargreaves is known Australia wide for his incredible training and handling ability and that was in evidence throughout last and the beginning of this year.
Having trialled very successfully throughout the year in Victoria with both dogs - Chevvy and Max - Jim then travelled to Tasmania to compete in the Tasmanian State and the National Retrieving Trials.
Chevy and Jim put on an outstanding performance and came 1st in the State Trial against the best in Australia.
The following weekend the National Trial was held. Unfortunately on the first day Chevy was very sick and struggled to complete the runs. However in true Hargreaves Team style Chevy faced the pegs for the second day and made up for lost ground. The final day saw Chevy and Jim at their unbeatable best. Unbelievable! No-one could touch them on the final day resulting in a clearly delighted Jim and Chevy being awarded 5th Place. Huge credit given the difficulties on the first day.
Phoenix demonstrating to the beginners class how NOT to hold a dummy 😂
Today is National Golden Retriever Day
