Amazing opportunity for students expecting to graduate in 2019 ... The Law School has New Colombo Plan funding to support students to do a 6 week law internship in Cambodia, beginning in the first week of January 2019 😍
Successful applicants for this unit would live in Phnom Pneh and work at a commercial law firm specialising in international investment.
Dr Lara Pratt is the course coordinator and she has sent around an email explaining about the program and the eligibility requirements. She is also very happy to talk with students prior to submitting their Eol form. So if you are interested, please READ HER EMAIL and then get in touch with her ☺️
These photos are of students who participated in the last Cambodia trip. They also had New Colombo Plan funding, but the structure of their program was a bit different. They had some incredible and rewarding experiences. Thanks to them all for allowing us to share these photos.
Fantastic to have alumna Tegan Murphy join us today on the Law Table at Notre Dame's Open Day 💛

Great news! The Fremantle Law School has again secured New Colombo Plan funding to support students in Law in Context (International) 👏
Students participating in Law in Context (International) in 2019 will each spend approximately 6 weeks interning with a Law firm or Non-Governmental Organisation in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in January/February of 2019.

At this stage, we just wanted to let you know what is happening. You can touch base with Dr Lara Pratt if you would like to discuss the this elective further, but at this stage we are still working on the logistics of the project with our Cambodian partners and further information will be provided in the coming months ☺️

The Notre Dame Law Students' Society are running this fantastic careers expo tomorrow (THURSDAY) in the Drill Hall at uni. Make sure you pop in and speak to some employers and former law students about jobs and opportunities.
A REMINDER THAT THE eNDLSS POSSIBILITIES EXPO IS TOMORROW!
In response to feedback from both students and employers, this year the NDLSS aims to ensure that Western Australian law students are made aware of every opportunity available to them, both in traditional legal practice, and in other areas, where the skills they have learned at university will be prized and utilised.
Our Careers Expo, which will promote the ‘eNDLSS’ opportunities available following a law degree, is a way for students to network with a broad range of potential employers from all sectors.
Come along to meet with law firms, government departments, consultancies and other employers of law graduates in order to learn more about different practice areas and opportunities.
We can't wait to see you there!
Nothing like a little bit of competition to keep us all inspired & focused on supporting Law Access!
Law Access is a not-for-profit organisation that coordinates the giving of pro bono (free or reduced cost) legal assistance by the Western Australian legal profession. The service is targeted at not-for-profits and individuals in genuine need of legal assistance who satisfy a means and merits test.

Today, on International Women's Day, it's an appropriate time for us to reflect on and recognise the amazing women who have graduated from our Law School and who are having a big impact on the profession. As ND Law alumna, Hayley Cormann, President of The Law Society of Western Australia, said this morning, "now is the time to unite our communities in the push for gender parity".
Click on the photos to see a lovely shot of our current and former Deans of the Law School, Prof. Joan Squelch and Ass. Prof. Jane Power, as well as a great shot of Hayley with our uni's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Celia Hammond, who once Head of our Law School.

The compulsory Advocacy unit ... a challenging, but rewarding, rite of passage 🙌
Great work on the video Alex, Darcie, Lucy, Daniel!
A big congratulations to alumna Mariko Hunt, who received the inaugural Barbara Churchward Award for her outstanding contribution, as a volunteer, to the Environmental Defender's Office WA Inc.!
For current students who wish to follow in Mariko's footsteps, the EDO is always keen to hear from students who can commit to volunteering and who have an interest in environmental law.
Mariko was also a member of the 2017 cohort of the fantastic Piddington Justice Project. Applications for 2018 have now closed, but if you're graduating at the end of next year, it's worth keeping this option on your radar. And you can follow the wonderful work of The Piddington Society on Facebook.
Congratulations to Mariko Hunt, recognised with the 2017 Barbara Churchward Award for her contribution to EDOWA over the year!
Barbara Churchward was actively involved in Western Australia’s conservation movement throughout her whole life, and headed CCWA for a period in the 1980s. Sadly she passed away last year. Barbara made a very generous bequest from her estate to EDOWA. The award is a way to honour her legacy by recognising an outstanding contribution made by a volunteer for that year.
Following her PJP placement at EDO, Mariko has now been employed in a graduate role at AustAsia Group. Well done for a great year Mariko - and best wishes in the new role!
There's a reason why Nick Summers, sessional lecturer and all-around good sport, is rocking this awesome mo. He's on the Notre Dame Law Students' Society's Movember team! 🙌👏
It's not too late to support Nick & the team in this worthy cause with a small donation ❤️ https://au.movember.com/team/2303752
Have you been growing a mo, but forgot to register? Message Rémi Rodari - NDLSS team captain. He'd love to hear from you. Your undoubtedly fantastic mo should not go to waste!

What are you studying?
I'm studying a Bachelor of Laws / Communications & Media. Some of the units I'm taking at the moment include Photojournalism and Contract Law - so there is a real variety in what I study.
How far into your degree are you?
I am almost at the end of my second year - only three years to go!
Once finished your degree, what is your dream job?
I'm still not completely sure what direction my degree will take me. I have really enjoyed the TV unit I have been doing this semester so perhaps something in broadcast journalism. I would also love to do something that combines both my degrees such as a legal adviser for a media company.
Where can we find you in Freo, if you are not in class?
I would highly recommend investing in a juice from High Street Dispensary and heading down to Bathers to enjoy some sun in between classes.
Tell us one thing that’s on your mind right now:
Like most students in Week 12 at uni, exams are on my mind right now. It's that time of year when I'm finishing those last few assessments for the semester and getting those notes ready for study week.
What are your weekend plans?
You've caught me on a particularly exciting weekend. This weekend I'll be unleashing my competitive streak on Friday night at the NDLSS quiz night. I've also got a mate's 20th birthday before heading off to the WA Media Ball on Saturday night for some networking and smooth talking with some potential future employers. And of course sneaking in time for some much needed study.
As Brent's students are lucky enough to know, his wife Zelda is a master cake maker. This is the cake that she made for the university's Gala Evening celebrating 20 years of the Law School.
Think those are books, a gavel & a wooden board? Think again - and think delicious chocolate cake! Thank you again Znique Creations; we are so lucky to have you as part of our Law School community.
It was such an honour to make this cake! This was quite a big cake (around 8" x 12" stacked books) and the gavel main part was also cake. The board was finished with fondant and hand-painted wood effect. the picture was edible print. Loved the challenge!
Did you know that this year marks the 20th anniversary of our Law School opening?
Here are some photos from the Gala Evening held in honour of the wonderful achievements of our School - of our staff, supporters, graduates and current students. 🎉❤️🎊
An incredible milestone for Notre Dame's School of Law in Fremantle! Thanks to our students, staff and supporters, both past and present - we couldn't have done it without you! http://bit.ly/2zKVik7
