This is what I love in life. Nothing but the sound of rain and chirping birds, the warmth of a fire and the space to reflect and contemplate about life, loved ones and remind myself that there is a simplicity to life that is always present that we get too distracted to notice most of the time.

This week I verbally accepted a part time job offer, met and shared meals with some amazing like minded people who share my values and ethics in life and business and had some beautiful counselling session for my private practice Toolbox Therapy .

This picture is what I envisaged when I started Toolbox Therapy. When I signed on to join with the Mental Health Ride No. 2, with the help of , I put a call out to my family for support. My brother-in-law collected a car full of his mates and drove 1.5 hours to support us. He was one of many family members that came to support Toolbox Therapy.
That's what this picture represents. Men getting in the mental health trenches with each other and supporting each other. Thanks so much to everyone who supported us from near and far yesterday. The team at Complete Health Geelong are the most awesome group of people I've met, who like me, are trying to destigmatise men seeking mental health care. Thanks for giving Toolbox Therapy a chance to help be part of a humbling event.

So why did yesterday make me shed a tear?
Watching 200 plus motorbikes pull-up was mind boggling. Watching a guy all dressed in black bikie gear standing at over 6 foot, get off his bike, take of his helmet and looking intimidating only to be charged at by his tiny daughter and him pick her up with a massive smile and instantly soften. Watching men band together, freely expressing their emotions and having a laugh and meeting amazing people like who embody the honest Aussie battling spirit of never being afraid of hard work just hit me in the feels. No matter what comes from yesterday, I'm super proud in the brand and business I have built.

Private practice isn't always counselling sessions and PD. Sometimes it's packing gift packs to hand out to people at the Mental Health Ride no.2 being held this Sunday in Geelong. Thanks for your help and putting Toolbox Therapy in touch with and creating a synergy between 2 like-minded services.

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure and privilege of helping run an open and networking day with Link Up Networking and Melbourne Integrated Therapies . It was our first, and what a success. The old Covent came to life again, like minds buzzed around the gardens like busy little bees, networking and sharing meals together. Whilst I met amazing people (too many to tag in one post) the stand out to me was someone who came 10 minute after we "closed" and were packing down. This was a chance meeting as they walked past and they just wanted to collect some business card and not hold us up. In typical fashion, we welcomed them in, offered them to stay as long as they wanted to and have a meal, showed them around the place and had a lovely chat.
This is why I love this place and the like minded hive that call MIT home. The focus on community and willingness to always go that extra step just for someone to feel cared for and supported.

Toolbox Therapy will be drawing its winner for the DIY Haiku activity tomorrow. If you were there yesterday and made a Haiku please remember to post your picture and tag Toolbox Therapy, Link Up Networking and Melbourne Integrated Therapies

After more than 16 years in the field, 3 months ago I decided to go into private practice for myself and after many years of people suggesting I should, but letting my imposter syndrome win time and time again, I launched Toolbox Therapy. I started with no business plan, no real set structure, just a couple of strong value statements that I wouldn't compromise on. These values are underpinned by the "why" that drives Toolbox Therapy every decision.

Those values were to be an ethical service provider. To put the needs and supports of individuals and couples first before all else and lastly to be the truest version of myself so that Toolbox Therapy is a representation of me. The WHY was because when I was sitting in a dark place once I wanted someone to sit with me who wasn't tired/burnt out, who didn't see me as just a job and who genuinely cared about me as an individual. I've always believed that when individuals are cared for, communities thrive.
The 3 month mark was a good time to reflect on this and hold myself accountable to my value statements.
I am proud to say Toolbox Therapy:

*Has given away more than 9 FREE full length counselling session that were needed

*Has grown to include EAP for small businesses, on top of the current counselling, consulting and leadership guest speaking already offered.

*Has worked in collaboration with multiple services such as Link Up Networking and Melbourne Integrated Therapies to organise and run events and continue to grow a network of like-minded service providers.

*Has poured all its profits into sponsoring Mental Health support events and continuing to destigmatise mental health

*Had 6 free discussion and consultation sessions for new or perspective small business owner

* Currently running more than 25% of sessions at a subsidised rate to make support affordable to those who wouldn't normally be able to access mental health support.

These outcomes have made me rich in experiences and a success in the business I wanted to create and build.
I am thankful for the support, greatful to those who have given me the privilege to sit with them during their tough times and shared their space with me and I look forward to Toolbox Therapy becoming the exception to the rule that shows meaningful connection, not Kpi's and funding chasing, are the future of mental health and community services.

If you have any ideas or share the vision of Toolbox Therapy and would like to support or collaborate with us, please reach out and keep building strong communities.
