How great do the new cricket nets at Catani Recreation Reserve look? 🤩🏏 The 4 nets double as a multi-use space, with 3 nets dedicated to the Catani Cricket Club, Football and Netball Clubs and 1 for public use.
The project was jointly funded by Sports and Recreation Victoria (SRV) and Council. Find out more about Catani Recreation Reserve on our website 👉 https://bit.ly/3gX7phA
JAMES BATHE LAUNCH START OF AN ERA.
“It’s a no brainer”, according to Cricket Victoria’s Area Manager Megan Pauwels. “ Organising and initiating a Junior Blasters group should be the foundation that all cricket clubs build their success upon.”
On a balmy Friday night at James Bathe Reserve over 51 youngsters who had registered to be involved, enthusiastically gathered to be exposed to the skills required for commencing a lifetime of cricket. Equally a similar number of parents watched on and participated as well to produce a wonderful gathering.
Cricket Victoria’s two Area Managers for South East and Gippsland, Megan Pauwels and Emma Gallagher combined with Cardinia Shire’s Mel Pratt to host the affair. They were assisted by a band of eager assistants. Local cricket enthusiast Chama Wickz, with WGCA President Rob Hansen met face to face for the first time after months of online communication due to Covid restrictions.
The Junior Blasters program runs for four weeks on a Friday evening at James Bathe Reserve and it is planned to climax with a Super event featuring Starman and a Melbourne Stars team to delight the kids. The final session on March 11 is planned to feature a Girls Blasters group too. Out of all this activity the organisers will plan to develop a committee for the first ever cricket club at James Bathe. They will be hoping that a small contingent will take on the responsibility of launching a new club. Anyone who would love to be involved should attend over the next few weeks.

Moving on from Sunday's Road Map out of Covid announcements, Cricket Victoria will hold talks with the State Government this Monday and today as it tries to plan the start of the 2021-22 season.
Indications so far allow the possibility for community sport to start training on October 26 when 70% of Victoria's eligible population is forecast to be double vaccinated.
But from there cricket and other sports would need the OK to move from training to playing.
The Junior Management Committee will meet as soon as we receive specific details around information on modified training, normal training & return to play.
Hang in there, Paul Milo from CV has said " people could look forward to the summer of cricket at some stage soon"
In the meantime while club training is still on hold, Cricket Nets are now open for public use (subject to restrictions). Please make sure anyone using Nets signs in using the QR codes, Councils or Clubs will be putting up. This is an important step in getting back to playing cricket.
Being your clubs Child Safe Officer is an important role.
