This Australian cotton gown has never left Australian shores throughout the entire supply chain. It was grown, spun, knitted and sewn in Australia. Thoughtfully made using zero hidden plastics.
In Australia we produce high quality cotton.
As a product, cotton is a renewable resource that is 100% natural. Unlike synthetics, cotton is biodegradable. It breaks down quickly in terrestrial and aquatic environments, and does not contribute to the microplastic pollution problem. Because cotton is breathable and does not retain odours as synthetic fabrics do, cotton requires fewer washes between wears, saving time, money, water and energy, and helps clothes and homewares last longer.
Protecting natural resources and growing crops to clothe the world is a balancing act that cotton growers manage every day. Soil, water, plants, animals and air are all part of what makes a dynamic and healthy cotton farming system.
Industry research shows that natural areas on Australian cotton farms, such as native vegetation and riparian zones, range between 10 - 40% of property area, and is dominated by riparian lands.
Here in Australia, we have one of the most water efficient cotton industries in the world. The water used to produce one bale of cotton in 2021 was less than half the water used in 1997.

This design is made from an older fabric which we have a limited quantity of. Right now there is no commercial spinning of Australian cotton locally, that we know of. Founder of Meriel is currently investigating textile manufacturing as part of her Fellowship
We produce some of the world’s best fibres here in Australia. Wouldn’t it be great to value add to that?

“Fashion is seen as a vehicle for political activism and personal storytelling. DIY culture makes it creative. Minimalist styling was trending but these days we recognise that it takes all sorts aesthetically; you can still dress flamboyantly without having an excessive number of clothes. When we do buy, we choose well, because we know it’s got to last. We’ve stopped trying to bust limits - we seek balance.”
