Food waste is an inevitable reality, but we can transform it into something good.

What do we mean by this? ⬇️

When food scraps are properly disposed of, they can be turned into a valuable resource - nutrient-rich compost. Leftovers that go to landfill will rot and produce methane gases that are harmful to the environment.

So get composting people, and turn that waste into gold! ♻️

Seaford Beach Patrol has been shortlisted for the prestigious Keep Australia Beautiful Tidy Towns Awards for their Plastic Pellet Project – Nurdle Anymore 🏖

You might be thinking, what on Earth are Nurdles? Nurdles are small pellets of plastic, used to make plastic products like water bottles, grocery bags and polystyrene foam.

But many of them end up on our beaches, hidden amongst the sand. Seaford Beach Patrol managed to collect 20,045 nurdles on their beach in 2023. Keep up the good work ! 👋

Our 8L compostable bags are small but mighty. They’re as tough as regular bin bags, but are definitely NOT tough on the planet. Composting in as little as 90 days.

Swipe to find out how much they can hold 💪🏻

Side note: don’t actually try chucking any of this stuff in your compost heap!

17/09/2024

It’s all circular ♻️

Our certified compostable bags are made from corn and other organic materials.
Once used, they break down naturally in compost along with other food and garden scraps, giving back to the Earth.

By using our bags, you’ll be supporting the global zero-waste mission and contributing to a circular economy.

That’s pretty neat!

There’s more than Reduce, Reuse and Recycle; bet you didn’t know that! ♻️

Refuse, Repurpose, and Rot are 3 more important steps to consider when thinking sustainably.

‘Rot’ is where we come in. ‘Rot’ is all about creating a valuable resource through composting food waste and organics, meaning less waste goes to landfill.

You can do this through your local green bin waste collection or home composting, using our bags to minimise the mess.

P.S. Always check with your local council first to make sure they accept bags in green bins! 🌱

Happy Dog Walker Appreciation Day 🐾

Thank you to all the amazing dog walkers out there!

Dog’s walks are an essential part of their day; acting as mental stimulation for them, discovering new smells and meeting new people/dog friends.

One essential bit of dog-walking kit (often tragically forgotten) is, of course, the waste bags.

Get your mitts on our MyEcoBags for mutts. So, when you’re taking your precious pup for a walk you’ll be mitigating your impact on the environment too! Replacing single-use plastic bags 1 walk at a time 👍🏻

As humans, we have the ability to turn our food and garden waste into something that’s not only a valuable resource but can produce beautiful things ♻️

Using compost on land produces a healthier plant crop, improves soil quality, balances soil pH, and reduces the need for water by an average of 30%!

So, although a pile of compost may not look immediately beautiful to you it possesses the power to transform any flower patch, garden or crop.

You can create beautiful compost from the comfort of your own home, but use MyEcoBags to catch mess and smells!

P.S. Always check with your local council first to make sure they accept compostable bags in green bins! 🌱

If the Victorian Government succeeds in banning compostable bags in green bins, it will mean a big fail for organic waste collection. Research shows compostable bags are an essential part of the success of council FOGO programs.

Our bags are not only super strong and super effective, they’re also certified to meet the most stringent industry standards. That means you can be sure they’ll fully decompose in compost, are non-toxic to worms and leave behind no toxic residues.

You can read more about it here:

Most industrial composters love us, because our bags increase the amount of high-quality compost they can make. The research says compostable bags like ours increase the amount of organic material diverted to green bins (that industrial composters can turn into compost) by 30%.

15/08/2024

Some people in our comments have suggested that compostable bags cause contamination in green bins. But the stats don’t bare that out. Yellow bins have around 11% contamination, whereas FOGO green bins only have an average of 2%, which drops to as low as 0.4% in better performing councils. In addition, compostable caddy liners have been shown to reduce contamination by around 1%.

13/08/2024

Right now, 80% of councils that accept food scraps in their green bins allow compostable bags. That’s because the research shows that compostable bags increase the amount of food organics put into green bins and save councils money.

The Victorian Government are proposing to ban compostable bags in green bins.

We still don’t understand why – especially when over 80% of Australian councils currently take compostable bags in their green bin programs.

We're making big strides in our fight against the Vic government's proposed ban on compostable bags in council green bins. 🌱 Media coverage from The Herald Sun, 3AW, Channel 9, and Channel 7 News is spreading the word far and wide.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. 🙌 Let’s keep this momentum going! Visit the link below to sign our petition and help ensure compostable bags stay in our green bin programs.

Stop the ban petition - MyEcoBag 10/08/2024

Our bags are a fantastic, strong and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional plastic bin bags.

If the Victorian Government is successful in their proposal to restrict compostable bags in green bins, people will be tempted to dispose of their food scraps in landfill bins, using conventional plastic bin bags.

This will be massively detrimental to the environment, proliferating microplastics and harmful chemicals that will persist in our environment for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

So, help us to stop the ban!

MyEcoBag helps to save your council money through FOGO.

When people use compostable bags in their green bins, organic waste to landfill is reduced by 30% (this is HUGE).

This isn’t only beneficial to the environment, but it’s also beneficial to your local council.

A 30% reduction in organic food waste going to landfill saves councils around $1.6 million per year.

However, the Victorian Government is planning a ban on compostable bags - this will come at a price for your local council and, ultimately, for you.

FOGO is good for the environment and MyEcoBag's are good for FOGO. - MyEcoBag 30/07/2024

MyEcoBag makes composting a win-win situation for your local council and the environment👍

How?

Composting facilities cost much less for councils than landfills.

If we compost more using compostable bin bags, like MyEcoBag, then it means less organic waste going into landfill and, by reducing landfill use, waste management costs will be lowered.

Oh, and it’s better for the environment too ♻️

Paper vs. compostable plastics - which is best for your home? 👇

Paper caddy bags are 4 times as expensive as certified compostable bags like MyEcoBag.

They quickly go soggy and fall apart, they fail to contain smells AND don’t keep out pests!

Just imagine the mess! 🤢

MyEcoBags are proven to be much stronger, safer and cleaner than paper alternatives.

Oh, and they have less of an impact on the environment too…

The draft Victorian Legislation is suggesting we use paper caddy bags instead of compostable plastic alternatives, as they push forward with a proposal to ban certified compostable bags in green waste bins.

We can’t let this happen - Visit the link below to sign the petition and stop the ban on compostable bags! 💪

Here at MyEcoBag, we believe compostable plastics are THE answer to reducing conventional plastic usage.

Compostable products play a vital role in reducing the amount of single-use plastic products, microplastics and plastic waste.

Why does this matter?

We can use the byproducts from compostable products as a valuable resource - compost!

In stark contrast, conventional plastics persist indefinitely in the environment, breaking down into harmful microplastics, posing a serious threat to the environment, animal and human health.

So, join us in making the switch to compostable today and help make conventional single-use plastics a thing of the past.

What’s best for the environment? 👇

Although the draft Victorian Government legislation is proposing a ban on certified compostable bags they are still allowing paper caddy bags.

BUT, contrary to popular belief, paper caddy bags aren’t actually better for the environment…

Paper caddy bags require 4 times more water to produce than compostable plastics AND they produce 3.1 times more greenhouse gases.

PLUS, transporting paper bags requires seven times as many trucks as compostable bags.

This is due to the weight of paper bags being 8 times more than compostable plastic alternatives.

We need compostable bags for the protection of our environment.
