Federal Roofing has rounded out this half of the FY completing 28 invoices. In addition, Federal Roofing has completed its biggest project yet!

Totalling nearly $15,000 - various and extensive work has been completed on a complex roof with 3 Dutch gables.

The work included removing and replacing the roof insulation, repairing all 3 Dutch gables, repointing the entire roof and repainting the roof a classy burgundy.

Some issues facing this customer included multiple leaking sites, exposed gables allowing vermin to enter, internal mold from external moisture, excessive build up of foliage in gutters and valleys, many broken tiles, missing valley cuts, dilapidated pointing and the list goes on.

Not only was the insulation replaced but all the Dutch gables were refurbished with new sarking, new weatherboards, new barge boards and new flashing which included one area that was required to be double flashed. The surfaces were varnished after painting was complete.

In several places battens upholding the tiles had dropped right off the rafter causing the tiles to sag, increasing the risk of leaking. These gaps were convenient for access while replacing the insulation and were repaired when that task was complete.

Prior to painting, the ridge caps were repointed adding strength to roof structure and sealing the roof.

Painting was difficult with numerous upstands and 3 Dutch gables to cut in, however the customer asked my advice between burgundy and terracotta. I feel like they made the best choice.

80 lineal metres completed on a double story housing commission block.

Completely rebedded and repointed this block of units was suffering from severe deterioration including poor prior maintenance, rats and possums entering the roof.

A number of ridge caps were also broken, allowing water to enter the building. A cost effective solution was installed and the ridge capping is now sealed and guaranteed for another 20 years.

Workers were required to be harnessed, the ladder was tied off and no objects were allowed to be placed obstructing access and egress.

The work was completed safely and efficiently taking 3 workers 3 days to complete.

Before and after shots - repointing a large bay window.

Bay windows are architecturally unique designs that add character to the family home. A drawback of bay windows are that due to their complexity maintenance issues can be more likely.

This bay window was comprised of 5 hips each measuring 3.5 metres in length. The pointing at the rotunda cap had deteriorated to the point that water was entering the roof.

While repointing this structure it was important to not damage the existing bay window roof. For that reason great care was taken in preparing the surface for repointing. And once the pointing was completed that area of the roof was restricted and only accessed for the final clean of the roof.

The results are a renovated roof and a bay window restored to its prior eminence. No breaks, no damage caused. Just a professional finish.
