I would like to expose a situation. If your children (or grandchildren) don’t learn to play with children with special needs at school, maybe you should spend 10 minutes tonight explaining it to them. Because, although they don't currently live with these children at school, they will find them in their lives for sure.
In light of recent events regarding the exclusion of a child with autism from attending a school trip and a child with Down Syndrome being expelled from dance class because she couldn't keep up with it, I feel the need to share this. There are boys and girls that no one invites to birthday parties. There are special children who want to be part of a team but are not selected because it's more important to win than to include these children. Kids with special needs aren't weird, they just want what everyone wants: to be accepted!
Can I ask a question? Is there anyone willing to copy and paste this post on their wall without sharing it, like I did, for all the special children out there?
Please teach your children to be kind to these beautiful children!
Everyone needs love and kindness. ❀️❀️❀️

Great little exercise that can be a game changer to your day

Whenever you’re feeling anxious, try this quick and easy exercise for an instant relaxation hit!

Start by holding one hand in front of you with your fingers spread. Slowly trace outside your hand with the index finger on your other hand, breathing in when you trace up a finger, and out when you trace down.

The Impact Of Domestic Or Family Violence In The Workplace Β» Brain Potential 2023 Having worked with many victims of domestic or family violence/abuse in my career, this new legislation got me thinking about the impact of domestic or family violence/abuse in the workplace.

This is beautifully written and one of the diseases that is more prevalent in our society, that we could all use a little more understanding of πŸ’•

VERY IMPORTANT for EVERYONE'S adult children to read!!!!

β€œπΌπ’» 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, I’d like my family to hang this wish list up on the wall where I live. I want them to remember these things.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, I want my friends and family to embrace my reality. If I think my spouse is still alive, or if I think we’re visiting my parents for dinner, let me believe those things. I’ll be much happier for it.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, don’t argue with me about what is true for me versus what is true for you.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, and I am not sure who you are, do not take it personally. My timeline is confusing to me.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, and can no longer use utensils, do not start feeding me. Instead, switch me to a finger-food diet, and see if I can still feed myself.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, and I am sad or anxious, hold my hand and listen. Do not tell me that my feelings are unfounded.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, I don’t want to be treated like a child. Talk to me like the adult that I am.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, I still want to enjoy the things that I’ve always enjoyed. Help me find a way to exercise, read, and visit with friends.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, ask me to tell you a story from my past.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, and I become agitated, take the time to figure out what is bothering me.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, treat me the way that you would want to be treated.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, make sure that there are plenty of snacks for me in the house. Even now if I don’t eat I get angry, and if I have dementia, I may have trouble explaining what I need.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, don’t talk about me as if I’m not in the room.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, don’t feel guilty if you cannot care for me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s not your fault, and you’ve done your best. Find someone who can help you, or choose a great new place for me to live.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, and I live in a dementia care community, please visit me often.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, don’t act frustrated if I mix up names, events, or places. Take a deep breath. It’s not my fault.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, make sure I always have my favorite music playing within earshot.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, and I like to pick up items and carry them around, help me return those items to their original places.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, don’t exclude me from parties and family gatherings.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, know that I still like receiving hugs or handshakes.
𝐼𝒻 𝐼 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝒹𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒢, remember that I am still the person you know and love.”

Love this

Do not love half lovers
Do not entertain half friends
Do not live half a life
and do not die a half death

If you choose silence, then be silent
When you speak, do so until you are finished
Do not silence yourself to say something
And do not speak to be silent

If you accept, then express it bluntly
Do not mask it
If you refuse then be clear about it
for an ambiguous refusal is but a weak acceptance

Do not accept half a solution
Do not believe half truths
Do not dream half a dream
Do not fantasize about half hopes

Half the way will get you no where
Half an idea will bear you no results

Half a life is a life you didn't live,
A word you have not said
A smile you postponed
A love you have not had
A friendship you did not know

The half is a mere moment of inability
but you are able for you are not half a being
You are a whole that exists to live a life
not half a life.

~ Khalil Gibran

DROP A πŸ™πŸ½ IF THIS RESONATES.

You’ve heard the saying β€œSILENCE SPEAKS VOLUMES.”

It’s 100% true.

SOMETIMES THE BEST NOISE YOU CAN MAKE IS NO NOISE AT ALL.

Flip the script.

Think of all those times when you just needed to get something off your chest. You didn’t really want to get into a long, drawn-out discussion, you just wanted to rant or WORK THINGS OUT BY TALKING THINGS OUT.

People are often that way.

You can be a great friend, parent, or business associate if you just GIVE SOME CONVERSATIONS SILENT SPACE. They'll tell you if they want your help or need your opinions.

Pay attention.

Listen.

Learn when to engage and reply.

More important, learn when not to…

The Horse Whispering Youth Program have received a two year grant from the Australia Safer Communities Fund to assist at-risk youth through equine assisted learning! The program will deliver fun and unique equine assisted learning sessions for youth referred from the Department of Education, Police, Youth Justice and Family and Community Services. Thought this beautiful email was worth sharing. It’s always lovely when someone goes that extra mile to show appreciation.

When did you last say a meaningful β€˜thank you’?

The other bit of good news is that the advice you gave and the plan we worked out for how to tackle my next two weeks til our next session? Incredibly helpful. In the few days between when we talked and when I finally got an offer I felt very calm and collected in a way that I hadn't up til then. I was able to work a lot more effectively, felt more free to dream up ideas for my project, it was just a very nice bit of time. I often find it really difficult to allow myself free time to be spent unproductively, but this was somehow pretty easy to accomplish with everything that was going on and the perspective you helped me discover. Thank you, it really did mean the world to me.
As always, looking forward to our next session!

Do you ever think about the engine of your car and what it is doing while you drive? Do you consider the motherboard of your computer as you work away? Probably not. Do you think about your brain and what it is doing as you move through your day?

Your brain is like the engine of your car or the motherboard of your computer and when something doesn’t function you call in an expert. You are the expert of your brain and at Brain Potential we would like to teach you how to train your brain to change its behaviour, adapt to what’s needed in the here and now, particularly when there’s a behaviour malfunction.
Brain Potential is a training and coaching program powered by neuroscience and aimed at leaders in organisations who are keen to learn more about the brain and how it impacts behaviour.

Hello and Welcome

IT’S ALL IN YOUR HEAD – THEY SAID!

I have always been a believer in β€˜mind over matter’, that if we are mentally focussed and positive, so much can be achieved. And my life was lived that way, despite the pain.

And then, just after beginning a new chapter in my life, new home, new job, graduated with my doctorate, new relationship, moved interstate, it hit!

Recurring bouts of pain, flare ups, brain fog, fear, distraction, absorption, isolation, exhaustion, constant pain that never left me day or night and constant medical merry go rounds in a desperate bid to find answers and of course, the inevitable fights with google and all the legitimate and less favourable research out there to confuse us even more.
