Exultation

Performed here so sensitively by Australian Guitar player Alan Plummer (my uncle!)

This is a spiritual time of year for many people, but I get the most out of being surrounded by nature. I’m in the Northern Hemisphere, where the Winter Solstice has just passed, but this piece was written during Autumn in the Blue Mountains - it feels strange to reflect on it some times, but the music I write is always connected to place and time. Now I’m looking forward to the next Autumn!

I’ve been recording some pieces lately, and I’m thrilled to present this one - The Early Morning, for string quartet.

This piece was filmed and recorded by Kaska Records, based in Ukraine, and I hired them because I wanted to give some money to Ukrainian artists. It’s a small gesture in the midst of the terrible events taking place, but I’ll admit I feel especially emotional about the musicians and artists who represent a living cultural legacy.

If you’re struggling to connect with the reality of the ongoing conflict, there are many worthy sources, but I’m following Ukrainian Witness, available on many platforms including Patreon.

1st violin - Kirill Bondar
2nd violin - Nastya Bondar
Viola - Anatoly Gavrilov
Cello - Arsen Paholyuk

QSO: Mighty Rachmaninov - ABC Classic 29/11/2022

😯😯 Some lovely words from Genevieve Lang on today’s ABC Classic broadcast of my piece Luminifera, up first in this recording of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Mighty Rachmaninov program from a few weeks ago.

If your radio went out today like mine did, you can have a listen here!

QSO: Mighty Rachmaninov - ABC Classic The much-loved Rachmaninov Symphony No 2 was a great match for the two new works in the first half of this concert.

Finishing up an amazing week of rehearsals for my piece, Luminifera, for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. It’s been such a pleasure to hear the sounds of that special orchestra in its renewed home, and with so many familiar faces on stage!

Can’t wait to hear the premiere tomorrow!
