Hello beautiful souls ๐Ÿ’ซ

๐Ÿฆ‹My name is Elissa.
๐Ÿฆ‹I am the proud mumma of my 2 under 2, beautiful boys (and fur-baby ๐Ÿถ.)
๐Ÿฆ‹I am the founder and creator of my passion and business Mindfully Aware.
๐Ÿฆ‹I completed my Bachelor of Early Childhood and taught full time for 7 years.
๐Ÿฆ‹I then left FT teaching in 2021 to specialise in mindfulness for children.
๐Ÿฆ‹I have also completed studies in Mindfulness and Youth Mental Health.

๐Ÿ’ซMindfully Aware all began as I started to dive deep into learning, unraveling and healing myself through mindfulness. Through consistent and daily practice for myself, I then brought this into my classroom of Year 1s at the time, then my school (staff and children) which then lead me to think and dive into the bigger picture.

๐Ÿ’ซ My thought was if I can do it, so can these kids and to educate them about their feelings, emotions, self-regulation, confidence and more along with a toolkit of mindful life-long strategies to help them. Also, to assist in lowering the stats of anxiety and depression in our children and upcoming generation.

๐Ÿ’ซ My DMs are always open and Iโ€™d love to connect - to chat, find out more about what I do or to support your mindfulness journey.

As an Early Childhood Teacher of 8+ yearsโ€™ experience and a Mindfulness specialist for young children, I use Mindfulness in classrooms regularly and most of the time see instant benefits. Even the children themselves notice that it calms their mind and body to a โ€˜ready to learnโ€™ and โ€˜neutralโ€™ state.

Part 2: As children return to school after a long (and hopefully restful, mindful, and enjoyable) break, it can be a challenging and stressful time for them (and you.) They may be experiencing a range of emotions such as anxiety, fear, and uncertainty along with excitement, joy, the unknown (Teacher, classroom, friends, etc) and more. All those feelings swirling and bubbling inside their little bodies. Mindfulness practices can help children to navigate these emotions and adjust to the new school year and environment.

4. Be Present (Part 1)
Alone:
ย
Being present and in the current moment can be done quite simply at any part of the day. Bringing back to โ€ฆ
๐Ÿ’ซ Mindfulness means to be fully aware, engaged and present in the moment.
ย
โ˜๐ŸฝFirst of all, yes Mumma you are ALLOWED to have time alone. You time. This is your sign and permission. To recharge ๐Ÿ”‹and restore your wonderful self + soul because you canโ€™t pour from an empty cup๐Ÿชซ, you too need some time and self-love Mumma. It might feel strange at first, leaving the house without your little one/s (no matter how many times you check the car seat โ€“ or is that just me?๐Ÿ˜…)
But trust me Mumma, you will come back feeling refreshed and a new woman ready to be present and take on the next hour, afternoon, phase, leap, what ever it may be. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ
ย
โœจYou, your friends, your family, deserve the best of you, not whatโ€™s left of you.
ย
๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธBody Scan:
As you breathe in, focus on breathing into each muscle group as you make your way up your body. Start at your toes, calves, thighs, bottom, belly, shoulders, jaw, eyebrowsโ€ฆ Scan where in your body you are holding any tensions or that you are sore and breathe and focus into that area.
ย
๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จSit, breathe, observe:
Quite simply, sit comfortably (indoors or outdoors), breathe slowly and observe any sounds that you can hear.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ Whatโ€™s the furthest sound away that you can hear?
ย
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธMindful walking:
Concentrate on feeling heel to toe motion
Walk without shoes & feel the sensations on your feet ๐Ÿฆถ๐Ÿผ
Walk without phone๐Ÿ“ฑ
Listen to music or a podcast ๐ŸŽง
Observe what you can see ๐Ÿ‘€
โžก๏ธ Look for letters, numbers, animals, insects (this can be done with your child/ren too!)

3. Sunshine + Movement โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ
First of all Mumma, Vitamin D,
the โ€˜๐’”๐’–๐’๐’”๐’‰๐’Š๐’๐’† โ˜ผ ๐’—๐’Š๐’•๐’‚๐’Ž๐’Š๐’โ€™,
is essential for ALL ages, even starting from babies, to support bone-building and strengthening powers.

๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ
๐Ÿ”… Strengthens your bones + muscles,
๐Ÿ”… supports the immune system,
๐Ÿ”… fights inflammation,
๐Ÿ”… can help strengthen oral health,
๐Ÿ”… can help battle depression or PND,
๐Ÿ”… just to name a fewโ€ฆ

The sunshine vitamin does absolute wonders for the mind, body and soul.
(I totally believe that I am solar-powered!) ๐Ÿ˜Ž

It is also believed to help with bubs sleep, particularly that afternoon sun.
- Can I get an AMEN to that ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

Add that with some movement, walk, yoga, stretch, play, whatever it is that you enjoy will be beneficial for both your and bubs health and well-being.

Along with any other form of movement you enjoy (in or out of the sunshine โ€“ gym, swim, rideโ€ฆ) to boost and release those wonderful endorphins AKA the ๐’‰๐’‚๐’‘๐’‘๐’š ๐’‰๐’๐’“๐’Ž๐’๐’๐’†. ๐Ÿ˜Š

So, get out there in that glorious sunshine Mumma!
๐Ÿ”… ๐Ÿ”… ๐Ÿ”…

How to calm your child that is feeling upset ๐Ÿ˜ข

1. Get down to their level ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ
๐Ÿ’ซ This is so important for children to know that they are seen, they are heard and that you are on the same level - not overlooking/overpowering them or looking down on them. This helps to create connection, trust and a safe space for them.

2. Acknowledge how they are feeling ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ก
๐Ÿ’ซ Firstly, use the term โ€œfeelingโ€ rather than โ€œI am.โ€ You are acknowledging and labelling the feeling, not the child. ๐Ÿ’ซDepending on their age whether you share with them the signs and signals you see that they are experiencing and how you see they may be feeling. Or if they are old enough, to label these feelings on their own. Or a mix of both!
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ For example,
๐Ÿ’™ โ€œI am feeling sad.โ€
๐Ÿ’™ โ€œI can see that you are looking down, crying, how are you feeling?โ€
๐Ÿ’™ โ€œI can see that you are stomping around, arms crossed and you are yelling. Are you feeling angry?โ€
๐Ÿ’ซ Acknowledge that it is okay for them to feel that way and why.

3. Offer co-regulation ideas & support ๐Ÿค—
๐Ÿ’ซ Sit and listen - actually listen to them and what they have to say, donโ€™t take over. Ask questions โ€œcan you tell me more?โ€
๐Ÿ’ซ Listen, nod, acknowledge, be present - make them feel valued and heard.
๐Ÿ’ซ Generalise that itโ€™s normal to feel those feelings and share a time that you felt angry, sad, etc.
๐Ÿ’ซ Offer a hug, read a story together, big belly breaths together, calm space, draw your feelings and talk about it together, use puppets to discuss feelings, playdough, and more!
๐Ÿ’ซ Use MFA breathing technique cards for kids
- launching soon!!

1. Breathe ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ
Sounds so simple right? But Mumma let me tell you it is so needed. In those crazy moments, those calming moments, those โ€˜are they crying or just active sleepingโ€™ unsure moments, you just dropped your coffee moment, and every single moment in betweenโ€ฆ
๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ b r e a t h e . . .
ย
๐Ÿ’ซ These 2 techniques are from our Breathing Techniques for Kids cards ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ**LAUNCHING SOON!**๐Ÿ˜

And I personally use these ALL of the time, by myself, whilst holding bub, even during my labour!
ย
๐Ÿ”น 5 Finger Breaths ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿฝ
Hold up your hand and spread out your fingers.
With your other hand, use your pointer
finger to trace around each finger.
As you trace up one finger, breathe in.
As you trace down the finger,
breathe out.
Repeat 5 โ€”10 times.
ย
๐Ÿ”นBalloon Belly Breaths ๐ŸŽˆ
Sit or stand comfortably.
Put your hands on your belly and
think of your belly like a balloon.
Take a big breath in through your nose, fill up your balloon and feel your belly expand.
Hold your breath for 3 seconds.
Slowly breathe out through your mouth, deflating your balloon.
Feel your belly slowly contract.
Repeat 5 times, folllowing your
breathing pattern.
ย
I personally use this one when calming Riley ready for going to sleep. I love it as I settle, cuddling and pat him to sleep, he can hear my heartbeat and slow, deep breaths to calm him and me.
