Lang Lang Campdraft
The Lang Lang Campdraft will be held 16th - 18th Feb 2024
That’s another successful draft finished for Lang Lang. We sure had everything thrown at us this year!! 24hrs before we were due to start we had no power, no announcers and a few hundred less cattle than planned. But with the help of a great bunch of people all stepping in and helping out we managed to pull it off. A huge thanks to Cheryl Joosten, Lukas Roberts, Sue Lawrence, Gina Lincoln & BJ Thorburn who all filled in at the microphone…. Our amazing yard men who work tirelessly from daylight to dark…. The kids who manned the gate for hours on end letting the trucks in/out…Greg Mackay and Chris Hance who used their tractors to prepare the arena. A huge amount of gratitude to Eden Rodda for running the office for 3 days straight while 7mths pregnant. You were amazing!!
But the biggest thanks goes to our competitors who did a fantastic job cleaning up their camps and leaving the grounds as we started. The committee cleaned up all the manure and were packed up and out of there by 6pm. THANKS EVERYONE, your efforts are so appreciated. See you next year
The last event was the Encouragement, with the finalists’ scores coming from the Maiden. 4 of the 9 riders came through with outside scores, and Grant Rule was able to keep his cool to claim the win aboard Pippa. Grant won a Diamond Wool saddle pad and a bag of Prydes. Thanks Zac Svetlik for judging
The maiden draft took 22 horses through to the final, and was run on Andrew Edyvane’s cattle. Ken Boulton and Athina had a commanding 4 point win, with Tom Thorburn having great success coming 2nd & 3rd on Ted & Flight Attendant. Ken won a bridle from Mosquito Creek Outfitters and a voucher from Gippsland Vet Group. Thanks to Zac Svetlik for judging
The juvenile draft resulted in an exciting run off between Archie Boulton on Reflex and Patrick Shanahan on Havana. Archie steered the ever reliable Reflex to another blue ribbon on lovely cattle supplied by Chris & Leanne Lancey. The rug was kindly donated by the Lang Lang Show Society and each placegetter received a show bag from On Track Stockfeeds in Cranbourne thanks to Kim McMahon
The Junior draft was full of excitement as the next generation of drafters shows us how it’s done. Chris & Leanne Lancey supplied some great cattle for the kids.
Peyton Schroeter put together a fantastic run to take the blue ribbon on Calaboose. Each placegetter won a showbag from On Track Stockfeeds Located at 235 Pearcedale Rd, Cranbourne South.
They have an extensive range of feeds and supplements with the best prices in town. Not just for horses either. Thanks to KimMcMahon. Thanks also to Suzie Johnson for giving the kids (and some lucky adults) a lolly bag. Thanks to Charlie Hengstberger for judging

Lukas has brought this horse through from his maiden years and ended up with a solid open campdrafting horse. Lukas also stepped up at last minute and helped announce throughout the weekend. We couldn't be happier for you Lukas!! Lukas and R***i took home a box of 4Cyte, a pair of Gidgee sunglasses from Mosquito Creek Outfitters, and a $100 Billy Goat Trading voucher. The committee braved the windy conditions yesterday to get a few jobs done before our draft. We’ve installed some permanent fencing around the arena, and made some improvements to the bar. Thanks to everyone who turned up to help. See you all 16-18th FEB at Lang Lang
That’s a wrap from Lang Lang. Thanks to our sponsors, competitors, judges, cattle donors, first aid, yard men, truck drives, PA tech (😬), caterers and all the people who stepped up to help around the grounds and in the office. It was a terrific draft and we look forward to next year

There was plenty of action on the arena once the campdrafting finished. We had a 3 legged race, sack race, balloon race and apple bobbing which saw lots of spills and body rolls over the finishing line
