Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week 2022 27th May - 3rd June
It's a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to see how we can all take action towards achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The dates are the same every year 27 May to 3 June and they commemorate two significant anniversaries:
27 May 1967: Australiaβs most successful referendum saw more than 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Australian Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and recognise them in the Census.
3 June 1992: The Australian High Court delivered the Mabo decision, the culmination of Eddie Koiki Maboβs challenge to the legal fiction of βterra nulliusβ (land belonging to no one) and leading to the legal recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of lands. This decision paved the way for Native Title.
Be Brave. Make Change.
We ask all Australians to be brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can make change for the benefit of all. Australians.
Reconciliation Australia
Every year on 26 May, National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as βThe Stolen Generationsβ.
It allows us to reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation.
We cannot begin to fix the problems of the present without accepting the truth of our history. Sorry Day asks us to acknowledge the Stolen Generations, and in doing so, reminds us that historical injustice is still an ongoing source of intergenerational trauma for Aboriginal and Torres Islander families, communities, and peoples.

On this International Nurses Day, our team would like to say a big thank you to all our nurses! You do an outstanding job and we know it's been a really rough few years. So thank you ππ

BREAKING: Quarantine requirements for close contacts and unvaccinated international arrivals will be removed from 6pm on Thursday 28 April.
Queenslanders have done so well to successfully manage the first significant Omicron wave, and we understand that many people have been impacted by quarantine requirements.
Any person who is asymptomatic will be able to go about their daily lives, including returning to work. If you develop symptoms, you should still quarantine at home even if you test negative.
The following protections will still apply to asymptomatic close contacts:
β
You must return a negative test every second day starting from the day of becoming a close contact
β
You must wear a mask when you leave your home and are in indoor settings, as well as when outdoors and youβre unable to physically distance
β
You must not visit vulnerable settings during the 7-day period following close contact with a COVID-positive case.
π We are now closed for the Easter holidays and will be back in the office on Tuesday 19th April.
Happy Easter ππ°
Today is World Health Day, a time to globally focus on urgent actions needed to keep humans and the planet healthy.
The World Health Organization estimates that more than 13 million deaths around the world each year are due to avoidable environmental causes.
Yesterday we were invited to join The Hon Trevor Evans MP and The Hon Greg Hunt for morning tea at the Blackbird Restaurant alongside other key health organisations such as ours.
We discussed with the Ministers the need for collaboration across and within the sector through social prescribing and the power that data can hold to support clients and clinicians
Afterwards, Josh and I grabbed lunch at Kul-Cher Coffee to debrief.
Great advice from Queensland Health.
It's our wonderful Fiona's birthday today! π
Happy Birthday Fi and we hope you have a fabulous day!

To those areas in flood (firstly our hearts go out to you β€οΈ) but please remember to stay away from floodwater. You donβt know what is hiding underneath the surface or what contaminants may be in the water. And if it's flooded, forget it β. We have seen many people and vehicles on our local community pages needing rescuing.

Angel started with us as National Membership Manager in late 2021. He's making some fabulous improvements in our communication with our members and we love having him in our team!
In his personal life, Angel enjoys the gym, bike riding and watching sports. (He's basically a fitness/sports king)
But he does enjoy hanging with his family and friends too π
Introducing our talented Fiona!
Fi is our Health Promotion Officer who works on our Access My Healthcare platform.
She's passionate about empowering and connecting people to healthcare information.
When she's not at work, you'll often see her on the basketball court as a referee (and occasionally playing, when she's not injured!) and supporting the younger officials in developing their skills (on and off the court).

Great advice from the QLD govt about exercising after recovering from COVID.
If you've had COVID-19, you may be feeling unsure about when you can get back into exercising. πββοΈπ΄ββοΈποΈ
Follow this flowchart to find out whether you are ready to get back into it. πͺ
If you are ready to start working out, it's encouraged to start with just 15 minutes of light activity and to monitor how you feel. If you're feeling okay, you can increase training progressively and slowly introduce higher intensity activities.
If you've had COVID-19, how did you feel when going back to exercise?
If you're like us and you're working from home a lot more, remember that you need to look after your health

Psychology Week 2021 - exploring the role psychology plays in the workplace.
29.11.21 - 05.12.2021
Thereβs no doubt that the last year has changed how we live and work. For office-based workplaces in particular, more people are working from home, and many of us are reliant on technology more than ever to talk to and work with colleagues. The grounds are shifting, and this is having a massive impact on how we think, feel and behave at work.
