Carrie, Sam and Donna’s husband Sean will be running the Great Wall of China Marathon this weekend. It’s going to be tough, but not nearly as tough as what brain cancer patients have to go through every day. We’re doing it to raise funds for vital brain cancer research. To support the incredible researchers at Brain Cancer Centre so they can develop new treatments and clinical trials… and eventually a cure. We’re doing it to see a day where no family has to lose someone they love to brain cancer. We’d love your help to do that…. You can donate via link in bio or here: https://shoutforgood.com/fundraisers/doingitfordonna We’re Doing it for Donna ❤️🌈
The Why. Please read and watch til the end. In March we introduced you to beautiful Donna, who had just passed away from Brain Cancer leaving behind 2 gorgeous little boys. This is her husband Sean. This time next week Sean and @bickmorecarrie will be running the Great Wall of China. Our aim is to raise 1 million dollars for The Brain Cancer Centre in memory of Donna who was One In A Million. All we are asking for is just 5 dollars. Everybody’s got a fiver. If you haven’t got your Mum something for Mother’s Day please donate and make that her gift. The gift of making sure no other mum loses their live to this devastating disease. We are Doing it for Donna Donate at www.carriesbeanies4braincancer.com
🌟 Brightest Minds 🌟 This is what the future of brain cancer research looks like, and it’s very bright! Pranav Runwal, PhD student from Monash University and WEHI - Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, is one of the brightest young minds on our team. He’s the recipient of the 2023 Dine For A Cure GBM Scholarship and is taking a “trojan horse” approach to delivering medicines to brain tumours. His research is dedicated to engineering nanobodies capable of overcoming the blood-brain barrier, to enable more of the effective medicines to reach the patient’s brain tumour. This unique collaborative project is funded through The Brain Cancer Centre. We can’t wait to see what exciting discoveries his research uncovers. May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month. The more brain cancer is seen, the sooner we can make it disappear. This is what inspired our campaign, The Public Diagnosis. Generous families are sharing their private diagnosis stories for the public to see to help raise awareness of brain cancer and the urgent need for more research funding. This short film captures the moment Amy Stephenson’s son, Lachie, was diagnosed with diffuse midline glioma. He passed away 7 months later. Lachie was a fit, fun-loving and healthy 19-year-old when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. “Nothing will change if we don’t fund the research”, says Amy “We’d really love to save other families from what we’re going through” By working together, we can give patients diagnosed with brain cancer real hope. If you haven’t visited the site yet, please do. We’d love you to share Lachie’s story too: https://bit.ly/3U9aeAr Because the more brain cancer is seen, the sooner we can make it disappear. #BrainCancerAwarenessMonth #TheBrainCancerCentre #ThePublicDiagnosis #BrainCancerResearch The Royals Hatched Media QMS Finch Oliver Grace PXLCAT
Dr Sarah Best, one of our Brain Cancer Centre research rockstars and WEHI - Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research Laboratory Head, is excited for the future of brain cancer research, and we are too 🙌 “Seeing The Brain Cancer Centre develop over the last year and a half has been so incredible. The number of researchers we’ve been able to pull together, additional scientific collaborations, and getting lots of different people who work in different fields in the same room has been really important. What we’ve seen in this short amount of time really excites me, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the future.” We’re proud to have brilliant minds like Sarah building on the momentum of The Brain Cancer Centre. We can’t wait to see where her research leads. Associate Professor Raelene Endersby is one of the incredible researchers The Brain Cancer Centre supports. Raelene is Co-Head of Brain Tumour Research at Telethon Kids Institute in Perth, specialising in paediatric brain cancer research. Her goal is to discover new treatments and, ultimately a cure for childhood brain cancers. As children are vulnerable to a different set of brain cancers than adults, Raelene and her team’s work is critical in developing treatments that reduce side effects while at the same time are most effective for developing bodies. Rockstar researchers like Raelene are making incredible discoveries in their collaborative projects in Melbourne, Brisbane and overseas. Brain cancer kills more kids in Australia than any other disease. This is heartbreaking and we need to change this. We’re so proud to have brilliant minds like Raelene’s part of our team working tirelessly to tackle this devastating disease. #BrainCancerResearch #TelethonKidsInstitute #TheBrainCancerCentre #ManyMindsOneFocus

The Public Diagnosis – have you seen it yet? Families generously share their private diagnosis stories so that we share them with the world. Those stories will be turned into art, photography, exhibitions, public works, sculptures - the list goes on. All with the aim of reaching new audiences, new ways to fund critical research and a new way to bring us closer to our vision: that one day no lives are lost to brain cancer. This first short film captures the moment Lachie Stephenson was diagnosed with brain cancer, he was just 19 years old. Generously shared by his Mum Amy, Dad Jason & sister Riley.
