DAY 6! (In retrospect)
Alpha to Taroom
The last day of dirt 👏🏼👏🏼
We had our first issue with the car in the form of a tyre puncture😬 A lot later in the trip then we were expecting honestly! A quick roadside change and repair had us back on the road in no time.
The day finished with an empty the esky party at our stopover and the coldest night of the trip, hitting 2 degrees early the next morning. Sadly no heating in the swag 🥶

DAY 5! (In retrospect)
McKinlay to Alpha
The day started with a beautiful sunrise, followed by a visit to the combo waterhole (the place that is believed to have Inspired waltzing Matilda).
A fun day and the longest yet saw us not reaching our stopover destination until 7pm. This was due to the large amount of cattle dodging throughout the day and especially in the evening. There was one close call of car vs. cow but thankfully no hits 👏🏼👏🏼 But sadly no pats😢

Day 3 and 4!!
Hells Gate to Karumba to McKinlay 👍🏻
Lots of sight seeing in the great QLD outback. Croc spotting in Leichhardt falls, a beverage at the purple pub and an amazing sunset over the Gulf (Karumba).
Day 4 was another themed day. “Partner’s Pick” and we did well I think. Surprisinging each other with specially picked outfits to frolick around the outback was an experience of a life time. Lots and lots of fun 🐊🎉

Now Kronk is looking like a true sh*tbox we are READY TO GO Saturday morning 👏🏼👏🏼

UPDATE TIME 🚙🚘

A lot has been happening in the lead up to the rally. Three short weeks ago, our dear sh*tbox “Sally” decided she no longer wanted to partake in the rally. Or life for that matter. She put on quite a dramatic and stressful show for us (see photo). RIP.

So Sally’s a melted write off however THE SHOW MUST GO ON! In full yolo/send it/carefree Sh*tbox style we are flying to Adelaide a few days before the rally, buying a car (yet to be determined) and driving said car out to Alice Springs (hoping the car makes it), where we will then start the rally🤞🏻🤞🏻 6 days until go time, wish us luck!

Hello hello everyone, long time no speak!

As you all may have guessed, by the lack of photos and the presence of covid, the Sh*tBox Rally was postponed last year... Butttt fear not! It is now going ahead and starting in a little over a month!

A lot has happened since the last update, we have moved to Queensland! The car has come along with us (with a few breakdowns 😬😬) But we are in high spirits and we are keen to finally rally!

Stay tuned for what I’m sure will be an enlightening and exciting adventure as we journey out to Alice Springs, up through the Golf of Carpentaria and back to the Gold Coast.

We still have a bit of fundraising to do and need your help to raise $1700 between now and 22nd May. Any dollars you can spare would be greatly appreciated and go directly to the Cancer Council 💙💛

THE RIG

The star of the show is this sick whip. She’s a 1991 Toyota Soarer and what a steal she was at $1000. Complete with leather seats, V8 engine, 12 stack CD player and vast array of quirky Japanese features we had high hopes... then she broke down in the middle of the highway the very night she was collected 🤦🏼‍♀️
She’s a work in progress but after some TLC and a fresh coat of paint she’s doing well. Hope is restored, we might just make it.
She has been named Soarin Sally after we inadvertently made her look very similar to Sally to Porsche from cars 🤷🏼‍♀️ whoops.
Our fate lies with you Sally! 🙏🏼

THE ROUTE

As you can see this will be no small feat. For 7 days we will join 249 other teams as be blaze our way across Australia. We will have support teams enroute to help our Sh*tboxes across the finish line ... hopefully...
We will encounter some of this country’s most remote locations and trouble some roads.
There will be dirt, camping, dirt, breakdowns (no doubt), river crossings, mud and probably a lot more dirt.
3962km... and that’s just the rally itself! We still have to trek it to the starting line...LETS DO IT!!

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

We are Team WILDHOGS and we are participating in Sh*tbox Rally Autumn 2020 event. This rally will see us driving our Sh*tbox (worth $1000 or less) from Alice Springs to Gold Coast via The Gulf of Carpentaria with 550 other hopeful participants.

So what is the Sh*tbox Rally I hear you ask; Sh*tbox Rally is not a race, rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable. Travelling across Australia via some of its most formidable roads and remote communities. All with the purpose of raising much needed funding towards cancer research projects for the Cancer Council.

The Sh*tbox Rally has raised over $18 million since it began in 2009 and is proudly the Cancer Council’s largest funder in Australia. This year the rally event hopes to raise a collective $2 million and our goal here is to help make this happen!

We are hoping to raise $5000 to put towards this great cause, but we can’t do it without you!
So how can you help?! At this time in one of two ways:
- Sponsor our team in return for branding on our Sh*tbox and rally website
- A tax deductible donation (minimum of $2) here at the link below

At the end of the day this event is all about having fun, raising awareness and of course the epic expedition ahead. So welcome to our official page! Follow us on our journey. Watch this space.

Mat and Grace
