Give the child real tools!

When we give our child something thats right sized, they are able to handle and manipulate the tool a lot easier than if it was too big for them. We're telling them this is something that you can practice with and use in the future. That they're their own person, and that they're capable.

They might not know it yet, but will release that this trust, these real experiences was the foundation of something beneficial.

Puzzles are one of the most underrated activities. 🧩

No wonder this is a Montessori classic. Part of our Level 5 Montessori Box, puzzles will allow your child to learn to manipulate and handle small objects. This skill is essential for future writing and self care. It is a great way to promote spacial awareness, the ability to judge how to place an object in relation to its surroundings. Our circle puzzle will teach your little one about size differentiation

Once they’ve mastered this, next comes the shapes. Here they will learn colour recognition as well as how shapes differ from each other.

They will learn the the power of trial and error as .everyday.learning.space likes call it. Over time your child will learn to control their hands and arms to fit the pieces in correctly, giving your child the opportunity to learn patience (don’t we all want that!)

Toy Rotation: What is it? How often? How many?

Toy rotation is simply having a set amount of toys out on display for your child to play with and then storing away other toys that you can rotate regularly.

How often?
It depends! Observing is one of the beauty’s of being a Montessori parent. We advise to look at their interests at that time and selecting toys/activities based on that interest (eg pouring). Observe their play, once engagement for that particular skill gets low, it’s time to rotate. If your new to toy rotation, we recommend once every 2 weeks till you start to understand your child’s cues

How many?
We recommend no more than 6-8 toys/activities at the one time. Limiting your child’s choices allows them to master the skills of the activity. It allows them to focus and enhance their cognitive skills. Repetition is something you will notice in your child. This allows them to discover new ways to play or notice details about the activity they didn’t notice the last time.

Have you tried a stacking activity with your little one?

It’s a great and simple way to help develop concentration, foster focus and develop problem solving skills. Our rings on a peg were purposefully selected to aid your little one to control their hands and fingers to hold and manipulate objects. Because the rings are all the same size it makes it easier for your child to grasp and precisely place it on the dowel.

We see all these beautiful playrooms on social media, but do we need it? Is it really that important?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Actually giving your child the space to stimulate learning will show your child that learning is something fun, beneficial and important.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Montessori classrooms are set in a way where your child is free to move and explore in activities that interest them.

Here are some tips for creating a Montessori playroom at home:
⭐️ Keep it simple: We recommend limiting their choices. By doing this it allows your child to free their mind to play, repeat, master and explore one activity at a time
⭐️ Theres a reason why small furniture is so important in the Montessori classroom. Furniture and items that fit their size gives them independence to move without your help. Placing items at their height stimulates independent movement
⭐️ All our toys are passive! Meaning they require your child to move and manipulate them to work. We say choose toys that promote engagement over entertainment!
⭐️ Allow open space areas! A good space can be used for their imagination and free uninterrupted play

How beautiful is our coin box? 😍

Besides the fact that our materials are made from high quality, We select materials that promote engagement over entertainment 🧠 ALL of our toys are passive.

What is a passive toy? They are materials that do nothing unless your child uses it, initiates play or manipulates them for it to work.

Let's dive in how this will work with our coin box. Here your child will:
⭐️ Deepen their understanding of object permanence
⭐️ Learn to manipulate small objects
⭐️ Refine their hand-eye coordination
⭐️ Improves memory and cognitive abilities

Passive toy = Active Learners

When I first gave birth to my daughter, I didn't believe in routine, nor did I know much about Montessori (not as much as I do today)

I did everything on cue and it worked well for a while. Until about 8 Months. I realised she needed more. We decided to start have a more structured day. It was also roughly around the same time as when I started sleep training. This is where routine worked, we would have dinner, bath, and read a book. Over time, this eased the process of bedtime.

🧠 Routines provide a sense of comfort, helps our kids feel safe and can influence our kids social, emotional, and cognitive development.

How?

Infants and toddlers who have effective routines are often more engaged with their environment and the people around them. They learn to anticipate changes in routines, and they slowly become more independent as they learn what each routine entails. If routines are predictable, have appropriate transition cues, and have room for flexibility.

Do you have a routine for your kids? If so when did you start putting them on a routine? ⤵️

How can puzzles help with my child's development?

Puzzles can help your child learn how to handle small objects. The k***s on the puzzles help them refine their fine motor skills, pincer grip, enhance their hand-eye coordination and problem solving skills to complete the puzzle.

When you watch your little one work through the puzzle you will notice there is a sense of control for trial and error without being assisted, showing an elevation in their cognitive skills.

This is why we love simple materials! The less the toy does, the more active our kids become.

Did you know that toys have to be just right for your child to interact with it?

As Dr Maria Montessori observed, our children have an absorbent mind. 🧠

They can actually asses if a toy is too easy or too hard. Let's start from the beginning. If you roll a toy in front of your baby during tummy time, they can asses if its too fast for them to catch or too easy. If its too fast, they already know that this isn't achievable yet and they wont interact, the opposite goes if it's too easy.

We've created boxes that are just right for your children. We've tested these materials so your kids can have a long lasting relationship with our products and developing life long skills needed from now and years to come.

Our included guide advises how and when to introduce these materials, though there is an age group, the "+" indicates that this is great for kids 13 months and above
