🩸 NOSE BLEED FIRST AID

Fact or fiction, you should tilt your head backwards when you have a nosebleed?

The answer is fiction!

It’s actually best to avoid tilting the head backwards as it can cause a child to swallow blood, upsetting the stomach potentially causing vomiting (which may worsen a nose bleed).

Instead try this👇

1️⃣ Sit your child upright and have them lean slightly forward.
2️⃣ Pinch the lower part of their nose for 10 minutes. Remember, no peeking! Try not to remove pressure during this time.
3️⃣ Distract with a book or game to pass the time.
4️⃣ Still bleeding after 10 minutes? Pinch for another 10 minutes.

If the bleeding continues after 20 minutes it’s time to get your child to a doctor.

Want some extra tips? Try these!

💧 Cool towel or ice pack on the neck for comfort.
🍦 Offer a cold treat to help with the taste of blood.
🚫 Encourage them to spit out any blood, not swallow.

Good luck mama, got this! 💪❤️

I got asked this question the other day by a mother looking to book in for a course and it got me thinking 🤔

We are so fortunate to live in a time where first aid training is easily accessible to families and their support networks, so what sets Cradle & Kin apart?

Well...

❤️We are both currently practicing, experienced paramedics.

- That means you benefit from up-to-date, current knowledge and real life examples.

❤️We teach you what you NEED to know, and cut away the fluff.

- Our course content is all evidence based using content endorsed by The Australian Resuscitation Council and leading Australian children’s hospital’s guidelines.

❤️We focus on teaching you, not selling you products.

- We show you how to save lives and apply treatment without using unproven gadgets.

❤️We both love a laugh (and are hilariously funny*).

- First aid is serious, but learning it doesn’t have to be boring.

So, if you’re keen to learn first aid make sure you book in for a course with us today using the link our bio!

*opinion not fact…

Whether it’s a minor kitchen mishap or a more serious incident, being able to identify the severity of your child’s burn can be very helpful.

This is because burn severity plays a large role in determining what level of help they require.

Did you know this about burns? Tag another mumma who would benefit from the knowledge!

Ever heard of a hair tourniquet? No? Let us enlighten you!

A hair tourniquet is a rare condition in which a hair becomes wrapped around a child’s finger, toe, limb or genitalia reducing or completely stopping the circulation of blood.

Because hair is so strong and can stretch significantly when wet, it can accidentally become wrapped around an area of the body, contracting and becoming tighter as it dries leading to a hair tourniquet.

It is thought that hair tourniquets most commonly happen due to repetitive movement. Imagine a hair is trapped inside the socks or mittens of a child who is constantly moving their hands or feet around. You can see how it could become tangled up around an area of the body.

Hair tourniquets are most common in babies under 6 months of age (due to all of that post-partum hair loss, wild right) however they can also happen to older babies and children and have even been reported in adults.

Want to learn more? Check out our blog (link in bio) and stay tuned for more info on hair tourniquets this week.
