You may have heard talk about "mortgage prisoners" recently, a term used to describe someone who is paying higher than the market interest rate.

Unfortunately to refinance you still need to meet lending criteria - which includes an assessment rate typically 3% higher than the actual rate. With rate rises this is making it more difficult for people to refinance to achieve a lower rate and potentially save thousands on their mortgages.
