Prolonged or chronic stress and/or trauma can wreak havoc on the body. It triggers the release of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which, when constantly elevated, can lead to issues like blood pressure changes (low/high), weakened immune system, digestive problems/impaired gut health, headaches, insomnia, acne/skin issues, fatigue, muscle tension, and even cardiovascular diseases.
Its important to address both physical symptoms by getting support from a nutritionist/dietitian/naturopath/integrative health practitioner while simultaneously addressing stress and trauma with a mental health practitioner.

Why is health important for healing trauma and improving mental health?!
Considering the health of the physiological body is crucial when healing and working with trauma/mental health because trauma affects not only the mind but also the body.
Traumatic experiences can become stored in the body, leading to a range of physical symptoms such as tension, pain, and disruptions in bodily functions.
Neglecting the physiological aspect of trauma can hinder the healing process, as unresolved bodily sensations and dysregulation can perpetuate emotional distress and psychological symptoms.
Addressing the physiological aspects of trauma through approaches like somatic therapy, yoga, and mindfulness can help individuals regulate their nervous system, release stored tension, and create a foundation for emotional healing and resilience.
Though another essential piece is nutrition, clean water, sunlight, exercise, healing our HPA axis etc!
I support my clients, not only through a somatic, IFS, EMDR processes, but I also hold them accountable to working on the health and improving their well-being within the physiological body, because I know the importance of that for healing trauma and feeling good within your mental health.

Delving into the intricate web of the mind reveals an unexpected connection: chronic stress and trauma, silent architects of a tumultuous internal landscape. š§
For those traversing the labyrinth of gastrointestinal distress, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often emerge as unwelcome companions. These conditions, more than mere afflictions of the body, whisper tales of psychological echoes, woven deeply into the fabric of our being. šš. Many layers to reveal how chronic stress and trauma leads to physiological responses.

See a trend!?!
Yepā¦ Your nervous system and your physical health and very intertwined. This is why itās incredibly important to know what can bring up more anxiety or trigger your trauma.
One of the best ways to avoid triggering ourselves is to look after our basic needs.
What on this list triggers you, and how can you address or avoid it? How can you meet your basic needs more?
These are all questions that come up in sessions working together with my clients. I love that I get to help clients with health and mental health. We do so much more than working just on trauma, the nervous system and the past.

Trauma is not for war veterans, sexual assault victims, or those who have been in accidents.
There are many different types of traumas and everyone is more or less vulnerable depending on different circumstances
Trauma is subjective. Two people may experience the same experience and one may feel that it was traumatic, and one may feel that it was not. It is important to never shame either side or either person.
Read through the carousels and see if you can identify with times in your life, where are trauma may have implanted itself within your nervous system and your body, and maybe you denied it for some time? Maybe didnāt recognise it as a trauma?
But how is it affecting you now? Your mind, body, spirit. How is it affecting you going after what you want? Most people wouldnāt realise the dramatic affect that even subtle traumas play in our lives subconsciously
Iām currently taking on clients and would love to talk to you more about this. Comment ānewbieā and I will DM you a discount code for a connection call or an initial session xx
Stress, trauma, IBS, psychosomatic symptoms āØ
New research highlights that stress does increase got permeability, and therefore past trauma that leads to increased perception of stress, enhances psychosomatic symptoms within the body.
Therapy is important. That dedicated safe place to be authentically expressed and held. But i always preach that your lifestyle and habits is key to healing. Not every aspect of healing has to cost something.
Somatic therapy š¤ trauma š¤ mental health š¤
I remember when i first heard about somatic therapy. It made no sense to me. I was confused. But also very very curious.
I found a somatic therapist the next day and then 6 months later i started my studies to be a somatic specialist myself. Nothing ever made as much sense to me as when i studied and learnt about this bottom up approach to mental health (my years study psychology seemed irrelevant and overcomplex compared to this).
Trust the pull if you are curious because this type of therapy can really change your life if you commit to it.

Feeling unworthy, broken, like an outsider, shameful or guilty are all ways i used to feelā¦
Until i realised that i was not the broken one.
I was pretty deep into therapy and somatic work when everything just started to make sense. The truth of me became clear. Like the haze cleared.
It was only from doing this deeper somatic work i truly felt a shift with my trauma and mindset / deeper feelings of selfā¦ i met my younger versions and began to heal with her.
This is deep and profoundā¦.
My clients have the same results from this work. More confidence, aligned, regulation and feeling good in their body and mindā¦

Being addicted to stress is a big thing nowdays and you have to be careful of this because it leads to massive burnout if your not careful.
I for sure, was addicted to stress and even find myself now having to be careful not to go go go.
Often what leads to addiction to stress is feeling unseen, unloveable, unworthy, valuable etc and therefore needing to be constantly doing/achieving in order to be those things.
By bring awareness to your why. Doing the deep somatic work going back to younger years and healing the ROOT.
You will find you are drawn more to choose peace, healthy habits, attachments etc.

As you shift, grow and age at the same timeā¦ success looks different.
Iām actually currently visiting some of my beautiful friends. Theyāre from Sydney and we had a discussion last night about house since theyāve moved to the Sunshine Coast. They feel like they need less of the flashes stuff and are more valuing lifestyle, spending time with love ones, and even having a smaller house where the family is closer together. They focus on health and growing. On true happiness, instead of what it looks like to be happy on the outside.
I thought this was absolutely beautiful, and exactly what I mean by this post is the meaning of success to your changes. As you shift into better environments, heal your trauma, change your mindset and start to prioritise the things you truly value.
Want to start to dive deep into your unconscious habits, beliefs & mindset? This is apart of the work i doā¦ get on a call with me now, only a few spots left for 2024!! ā¤ļøāš„
Trauma taught us to contort ourselves, but the fawn response taught us survival. We learnt to keep up appearances, to fit in, as our experience tells us we will not be accepted as we are.
It's time to unlearn those survival mechanisms and embrace your authenticity.
The work I do is really just guiding you back to who you truly are, allowing you to feel confident, sexy and completely aligned with owning who the hell you are (and that woman is so freaking worthy, inherently!)

Routine can be so important for someone healing from trauma
BUT, also consider that you may be also OVER struturing, controlling routine too much or being too hard on yourself
Being to ālazyā / procrastinating
AND
Overdoing it and being too strict
Are BOTH trauma responses
Healthy routine and structure feels good for most peoples nervous system and is important for healthy.
I definitely used to be someone who was overly structured and disciplined within having a routine.
So what I found has worked really well for me is to squaring out periods of time within the day to do what feels good and pleasurable for me.
One day at might be meditation and some breathwork and another day and might be a walk on the beach, some sunshine and a swim . I love that flexibility and it feels really good to my nervous system. But I also have the structure of knowing 100% Iām going to do something for my nervous system that feels good. This is also a routine.
