James managed a great days fishing out with and off Sydney recently, getting amongst the incredible Striped Marlin bite that is currently happening off the coast.

An incredible marlin season currently underway on the NSW South and Far-South Coasts, with both Striped and Black Marlin making their presence felt.

TEAM ZORRO are no newcomers to the tournament winners circle, having put together a serious set of credentials over the past few years tournament game fishing together.
The past weekend may sit at the pinnacle of that list with not only an incredible catch, but a handy little cash winning to boot!
The team took out the NPSGFC Billfish Shootout with an impressive 194kg Blue Marlin on 15kg Hi-Catch IGFA line, and 100lb Momoi NEO Fluorocarbon Leader. Not your typical tackle to chase fish of this calibre along the East Coast!
Fishing for Blacks and Striped Marlin inside the shelf (and having tagged and released 4 already), they encountered this beautiful fish in amongst the bait schools. 3 hours later, angler Hayley Bonnici got the fish within range to gaff after the crew noticed this was a contender for heaviest Billfish of the tournament.
To take a fish like this on such sporting tackle requires a team that is capable, and every crew member knows their piece to play.
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to all of the crew on an excellent capture, and a well deserved $50,000! 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻

Things are starting to heat up on the GBR.
Numbers of fish are around, although size is generally down for the most part.
That said, there are more and more reports of the big girls starting to show.
with a nice fish in standard Cairns SE slop.

SYDNEY HARBOUR BARRA!
Adam "1200 Lumens" Polly must've been rubbing his eyes when this healthy looking Barramundi slid up the ramp in North Harbour recently, all the while keeping a close eye out for any sneaking Crocodiles attracted to the commotion!
What on earth is a Barra doing all the way down in the back reaches of Sydney Harbour you may ask?
While we will not be setting up a Barra Guiding Camp at Roseville just yet, it is not the first time one of these tropical creek predators has turned up in Sydney Harbour.
Common consensus is that these fish are purchased from Aquarium retailers by certain religious groups for ceremonial purposes and released or "set free" for good karma etc.
And while some of these fish may find the requirements they desire such as water temperature, food supply, and shelter to see through the remainder of their days, it is believed many will succumb to adverse conditions within a short time. This one had obviously been comfortable enough to chase and hit Adam's lure.
Either way, this is an impressive catch, and one I'm sure Adam will be telling his mates about for years to come.

had a ripper session on some beautiful NSW Southern Bluefin Tuna recently.
This fish fell to the ever-reliable BILLMARK LURES POG BULLET with Wings.
Manic ensued with a 5-way hookup, but calm heads saw the lads land 4 of the 5 fish. Well done Tom and crew!

While typically considered a warm water species, in recent years it has not been uncommon to see numbers of these Shortbill Spearfish taken during the East Coast Winter tuna run.
caught this tasty "chucker" on the PROVEN bird/BILLMARK POG Bullet combo a couple of days ago.
This Teaser/bullet combination has taken everything from Big Blue Marlin, YFT, SBT, Spearfish, Mahi and XL Wahoo for the team now.

These overgrown Bonito are really an interesting species, unlike true tunas, Dogtooth spend their lives in a semi-home range, consisting of seamounts, reef edges and underwater plateaus.
They are an apex predator in their domain, often being seen bullying sharks out of the way when wanting to feed.
With anglers who chase them realising very quickly that they can destroy you and your tackle in unwavering fashion.
Basically they are KING OF THE REEF, or as who knows them on a first name basis puts it...
"To catch these guys on the bottom in 900 feet of water and then get one to eat off the top… definition.. just plain badass!! "

got in on the current Tuna run off Sydney with this beautiful Yellowfin.
A day well spent onboard the amazing Grady White 33 Express, one of the Grady White boats. A very impressive all round weapon of a boat and one very happy new owner on his maiden offshore tuna trip 🤙
Trolling has been the best method to find the schools, and for those that like chasing the blow-ups, it can often pay to run a couple of well weighted bullets to allow you to troll at speeds in excess of 10knots and cover ground between bust ups.
Lures such as the Marlin Magic Baby Blue and Ahi P***y series (), our Billmark POG Bullets in 8" and 10", Bluefin Candy and Longnose Bullets, or Aloha Ninja Series () are all great options for this effective techniques, and basically lures you should have in your conventional trolling spread anyhow 😉

An outstanding Landbased capture by 👏💪
This 61kg Southern Bluefin was landed on 10kg Hi-Catch IGFA main line. Which is a truly mind blowing proposition on the bricks. 🤯
Momoi has a track record of impressive captures off the rocks, but I can't see this one being beat anytime soon. Happy to be proven wrong though!

What an epic week it's been. Stoked to have represented Fiji at the Offshore World Championships 2023. Team Fiji finished up 15th out of 29 teams and I took out Heaviest Tuna and 3rd placed angler 👏
A big thank you to the team, and Dave the narrator for making it such a memorable time. Thanks to the organisers for putting on such an amazing event. As we all know, tournaments aren't possible without sponsors, so a big shout out to them. Last but certainly not least, thanks to all the Captains and crews who put everyone on to the fish.

Stoked to be fishing for Team Fiji in the Offshore World Championship 2023 in Quepos Costa Rica. I was lucky enough to fish this epic tournament a few years back, so to be back here again is just a dream come true.
We managed to squeeze in a day out off Los Suenos a couple of days ago, where we went 4-4-4 on two Blue Marlin and two Sail Fish. It was an awesome day and hopefully a sign of things to come over the next few days.
