Medicare is 40 this year!

To mark the 40th anniversary of Medicare, the Stronger Medicare Awards honour people who have made an exceptional contribution to the health of Australians.

The awards recognise Australia’s Medicare Champions. These are the outstanding people, teams and practices in primary health care who go above and beyond to improve the health of their community.

A little Anzac Day Biscuit recipe in the leadup to Anzac along with some information about Anzac and what the word means for our Veterans.

Anzac Biscuits ✅
Bully Beef ❌

During the First World War, those fighting overseas often received care packages from loved ones back home containing biscuits made from rolled oats, golden syrup and flour.

These humble treats, now known as ‘Anzac biscuits’, were a tasty alternative to the notorious ‘bully’ beef, which was known to have been about as tasty as the tin it came in.

Ahead of why not bake your own Anzac biscuits to share with family, friends or guests at your local Anzac Day service.

👩‍🍳RECIPE

To get started you’ll need these ingredients:
• 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine
• 2 tablespoons of golden syrup
• 1 teaspoon of bi-carb soda dissolved in 2 tablespoons of boiling water
• 1 cup of rolled oats
• 1 cup desiccated coconut
• ¾ cup of brown sugar
• ¾ cup of plain flour

Now let’s get cooking:
• Heat oven to 160 degrees
• Melt butter/margarine and syrup
• Add dissolved bi-carb soda and water
• Mix dry ingredients in a bowl, add liquid mixture and stir
• Roll small balls of the mix onto a greased tray
• Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly brown
• Lift biscuits onto a cooling rack and wait for them to cool

Just one last step, remember to call them Anzac biscuits, not cookies!

Burpengary Anzac Day Services start at 4.45am with the Dawn Service at Burpengary War Memorial. Anzac Day March starts at 9.30am meeting at the Coles Carpark followed by the Main Service at 10.30am at the Burpengary War Memorial.

Free influenza (flu) vaccinations are now available to all Queenslanders over the age of 6 months. 🙌

Make a plan to get vaccinated in April or May to ensure you're protected through the winter months when flu season is at its peak. 💪

The free flu vaccine is available until 30 September 2024 from your GP, pharmacies and other vaccination service providers.

The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the flu is to get vaccinated. This makes it less likely you'll suffer serious illness and need to be hospitalised.

Bright n Sparks is an amazing initiative working with the community every Friday morning at the Wellness Hub in Brighton.

They are a group of volunteers engaged by Metro Health creating a choir for those suffering with Dementia.
