Did w**ds get away from you this Summer?
This granitic sand bike storage area in East Brunswick was overrun with w**ds until we treated it with steam.
This housing development is almost next door to Ceres and the Merri Creek, so the residents didn't want to pour chemical herbicides all over the place.
Steam brought this area under control with no added chemicals.
Photo 1 was taken 17 October. Photo 2 was taken 11 November.
Normally it would take another month or two to bring an area under control, but in this case the results were exceptionally fast.

W**ds are front of mind for people in Spring and Summer. But as we head into Autumn, I'm reflecting on the jobs that went best over the past year.
And the truth is, it's the ones that we started in Autumn that came up the best.
In Spring and Summer, you're fighting an uphill battle against a massive seed bank that has built up over the past year, as well as the power of photosynthesis. It's relatively hard work to make progress in those conditions. The past season has been especially tough with massive rainfall.
But, when everyone else was doing a tough battle with w**ds, this customer sent me a photo of her path on 22 November, telling me I had "given her back her garden".
This customer got her path under control starting in March. I've written a full case study of this project and why it worked so well here:
www.w**dingwell.com.au/blog/the-most-important-w**ds-we-kill-are-the-ones-you-will-never-see
By the time we got to summer, it took one sixth as much work to achieve a massively better result.
If your gravel paths and driveways are overrun with w**ds, now is the time to make a plan for making next spring not merely manageable, but enjoyable.
Is it time to get your garden back?

One of my commercial customers. Before the first treatment and after the third. Gravel driveways and paths are my speciality.
It's hard to believe that these are the same path only 8 weeks apart. I took the photos myself, but even I had to look twice. π²πΈπ±
The garden has burst into life with the onset of spring, but the w**ds on the path have disappeared thanks to the steam treatments.
What a pleasure to help maintain this garden .
As I sit here, rained out for the first time since starting business, watching flood waters rise from my bedroom window, I feel grateful to all those customers who have trusted me with their beautiful gardens over the first six months of my business.
I've learned a lot about where steam works beautifully and, in a couple of cases, where it doesn't.

Spring is here, and w**ds are growing fast. But this customer's paths are looking better than they have for a long time after three treatments with steam.
Steam w**ding is an ideal choice for maintenance of gravel paths and driveways.
Available in the Macedon Ranges and Melbourne's inner northern suburbs.

This customer has a beautiful place right on a pristine creek. Although she uses w**d sprays in some parts of the farm, she wanted to avoid sprays so close to the waterway.
We are treating an area that is being prepared for landscaping as an outdoor living space. What you see in the photo is the line where we started to use steam last month. As you see, most of the area has died back one month on. Some broadleaf w**ds remain, and were spot treated on the second visit.
After the next visit, the area will be ready for landscaping works
It was a pleasure to w**d this beautiful and stylish garden in Aberfeldie using steam yesterday.
Recently landscaped by LaurieLandscapes, the garden still looked great, but the owners were struggling to stay on top of the oxalis that was springing up everywhere.
The ground covers and grasses they have planted haven't had a chance to get established yet, so there's a lot of open ground, which is exactly what w**ds like best. And the fresh soil that was brought in for the job came with some w**d seeds in it.
The second photo shows how the oxalis and other w**ds were pushing through.
Lots of w**ds take about three days to die back after steaming. But oxalis is one of the ones that collapses instantly.
You can see in the first photo that you can barely see any w**ds, only minutes after steaming.
It was extra satisfying to steam this landscaped nature strip, knowing that I wasn't pouring herbicides into the gutter.
Storm water runoff isn't treated before it goes into creeks and other waterways. The best way to keep herbicides out of waterways is by not using them.
W**ding Well offers fast, effective, chemical-free w**ding services in Melbourne's northern suburbs as well as the Macedon Ranges.
How much does it cost to use chemical-free steam to control w**ds?
Here's what you need to know: https://www.w**dingwell.com.au/blog/how-much-will-it-cost-to-use-steam-w**ding
With Spring upon us, we're getting a lot of enquiries from customers like this one. A garden that's already overwhelming, and is getting worse fast!
And the first question on everyone's lips is: "how much will it cost?" Click on the link above to read about the real drivers of cost when using steam w**ding.
Which works better? Roundup or pure steam?
Now that we are heading into Spring, Macedon Ranges Shire Council has been out spraying. So, we can see side-by-side comparisons between the use of Roundup compared to steam.
The first photo shows the w**ds browning off in the Roundup-treated gutter uphill. You can see clearly where our work began because... there are no w**ds in the gutter! (see photo 2) The same can't be said for the Roundup-treated gutter above it.
It's the same story on the other side of the street (photo 3), where Roundup-treated w**ds are still hanging on strong despite browning off.
We could really improve street presentation and drainage in our towns if we used steam instead of Roundup on bluestone gutters.
Plus, steam can be used in the rain without pouring chemicals straight into the Coliban river down the road. There's a local swimming hole and platypus habitat only a couple of hundred metres down the hill!
Steam isn't a solution to every w**ding problem. Like everything else, it has pros and cons. But this is one of several situations where there are enormous advantages.
All paved surfaces, brick paths, gravel paths and driveways are ideal candidates for steam treatment.
We just helped a customer in Kyneton prepare this garden bed to be planted out, with no herbicides. In a few weeks it will be fully mulched and planted - and w**d free.
Often people prepare garden beds with chemicals to stop the lawn from growing up through the mulch, and competing with the new plants.
This garden bed is only metres away from beehives, and the owner did not want to use sprays. But even if they had, it wouldn't have been practical because of the rainy and windy conditions lately.
As you can see, using only steam, we have knocked back the grasses without adding any chemicals, and without risking non-target damage by drifting sprays.
A great outcome for the customer, for the bees, and for the future garden. π

Gravel paths and driveways are usually maintained with nasty chemicals because hand w**ding is so annoying, ineffective and slow. But with saturated steam, even a badly overgrown path can be brought back under control with only a couple of treatments.
W**ding Well now offers chemical free w**ding services in Melbourne's inner north as well as the Macedon Ranges.

Great results using steam for w**ding this bluestone path.
First photo shows this path had hundreds of self-sown w**ds springing up 6 weeks ago.
The second photo shows the same path one week after treatment.
The third photo shows the same path today (with no extra treatment).
Because we got onto these w**ds early in their development, it only took one treatment to deal with them completely.

Can you clear w**dy gutters without pouring poisons into our waterways? Yes! Check out this gutter in Malmsbury.
We steamed it with pure drinking water for the first time 15 weeks ago. The third treatment was six weeks ago, and it still looks great.
Weβll spot treat it again in a couple of weeks to knock back the regrowth.
Steam w**ding works. And it has none of the harms to pets, bees, waterways and human health associated with herbicides.
3 days after we streamed the w**ds on this driveway in Woodend, the results are clearly visible
