NSW Pipe Band Ass., with tutor and champion drummer Michael Smith, are holding a 10 week Snare Drum Introductory Program on Saturday afternoons, starting Saturday 8th July at 1.30pm, via Zoom.
Michael has been playing drums in Pipe Bands for over 20 years and has competed at various grade levels. Michael also performed with Sir Paul McCartney on his 2017 tour!!

This Sunday 21st August will see GMM play in our first full pipe band contest this season as we start ramping up for the Australian National Championships in 6 weeks time - the first week end in Oct.

Our Grade 4B band only has three members Steve Kerr, Michelle Smith and Michael Smith from our Sydney Based players and Heather Martin from Gunnedah and Dave Walker and Anthony Bebbington from Dubbo who have competed with the #2 band before.

All other members currently playing have come through our #3 band teaching system or from Scots Albury where some of their players are guesting with us. We would like to thank their tutor's Scott Nicolson and Tom Mewett for allowing his students this opportunity.

We have two pipers, Riordan Drake and Joanne Miller joining the team from our #1 band along with Pipe Major Barry Gray who does the bulk of the tutoring for this group.

From the members who will likely hit the field with us in 6 weeks time, only 8 have ever played in a National Championship before from our 22 possible pipers, 2 Bass;'s 4 tenors and 7 snares member squad. And as a band we excited to be able to give 27 players their first ever opportunity to compete at a National Championship level.

Our newly put together Novice Juvenile band will hit the park for the very first time this week end being the start of their build up toward the Nationals, where we will hopefully have, 12 pipers, a bass, 2 tenors and 4 snare drummers. Not an easy feat for a community based pipe band. Win, lose or draw we are sure that the experience the children will gain from this contest will help them develop and grow on their musical journey and we hope see them become future leaders within the pipe band community.

We have a saying at GMM, bands (unfortunately) run on money and not music, And all that we strive to achieve would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our members and their families. They out in a lot of time and effort to make the money we need to run the band, by doing band jobs, Bunnings BBQ's or fund raising nights such as Burns Suppers etc.

And just as importantly, are the donations and goods given to us by our sponsors.
