Angela Hanscom is a Paediatric Occupational Therapist and founder of TimberNook. In her fantastic Ted Talk, βThe REAL reason children fidget β and what we can do about it" she argues that children are not getting enough movement throughout the day. She says that children should be playing outside as soon as they get home from school. Angela argues "twenty minutes of movement a day is not enough! They need hours of play outdoors in order to establish a healthy sensory system and to support higher-level attention and learning in the classroom."

A little bit about us...
Little Adventurers is about using creativity, our uniqueness and our imagination to inspire wonderful moments. Life seems to go by in the blink of an eye and our little treasures grow up so quickly, so letβs explore our inner child and appreciate what it is to be a child. I believe in following the interests and ideas of the children, to have messy play and let the children challenge themselves. Provoking deeper thought through curiosity and wonder is what childhood is all about. We have amazing natural beauty on the Gold Coast and by exploring this it assists us in our learning and play and building our appreciation for itβs splendour! Our day runs between 8am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. I will be aiming to be involved with our local community in many different ways, through supporting local businesses, visiting our local services ie fire station and showing and modelling to the children how to connect with our elders.
Our day would generally look something like this:
8-9.30am - We settle in and have some home time using our imagination, maybe doing something creative or relaxing, discussing how we are feeling or sharing ideas on things we would like to do.
9.30am-1pm - Excursion time, exploring different destinations, immersing ourselves in nature, learning from the community or playing with our fellow FDC children. Learning new skills and using our senses to enjoy what we have right in front of us!
