Lemara Equine
Horses are my passion, my work and my life. At Lemara Equine I strive to get the best out of both horse and rider. Leah x
My training and instructing techniques have been acquired over many years of experience starting under saddle, training in disciplines such as western pleasure, basic dressage and basic jumping. My passion for instructing riders came from my childhood of being actively involved in two full time Horse Riding Centers for most of my adolescent years. I have trained under big names such as Scott Sutto
Good morning all my wonderful clients,
i just wanted to inform you all that unfortunately this weekend, Saturday 20th January 2024, will be our last lesson weekend here on the property with my school horses for the next 6-12 months. I have had a change in circumstances and need to focus my on family commitments and other work commitments.
I have undertaken work in disability care and am contracting to a fellow professional horse trainer and riding instructor which when starting back will allow me to start back with further knowledge for my equine assisted learning&activities (equine therapy) and instruction of riding lessons.
You have all been fantastic clients and students! I hope those that had lessons on my school horses on Saturdays will be back when I start up again with more knowledge and understanding of our beautiful horses to share with you all.
For those of you who have riding lessons and/or training with their own horses your lessons will not be affected. I will also still be running some equine assisted learning&activity sessions with my ponies during the week by appointment and my ponies are still available for events such as pony parties, weddings, photography sessions and more. However I will no longer have school horses on the property for riding.
I hope you have all enjoyed your time with me at Lemara Equine and hope that you will return when lessons recommence in the near future.
I will keep you all updated and informed on when this will happen.
I apologise for the sad news and hope those of you booked in for riding lessons this Saturday have a wonderful last lesson.
I hope you all have a lovley day!

Well today was the day! I picked up my wonderful lesson horse, Ava.
Even though this is my business and how I make a living I don't think any true horsewoman/man could say they don't form life long connections. There were definitely no dry eyes in the vicinity today 😭.
A little while ago I sold Ava to a lovley family and have now been given the opportunity to lease her back for 6-12 months while my mare Bee comes up the ranks. Thank you Bee for allowing me such a wonderful opportunity. She will be much loved by all her students and myself.
Everyone welcome Ava home for a short stay with Lemara Equine .
Just a little email that was sent out to a few NDIS Agencies. To spike some interest for my plan managed participants.
I already offer PRIVATE equine assisted learning&activities sessions for my self-managed participants for the same price per hour !
'I am writing to let you know I am hoping to be able to offer an affordable and meaningful experience for NDIS participants through equine assisted learning&activities sessions.
Lemara Equine is a small riding school that predominantly operates riding lessons and also some horse training. I hold a current blue card, yellow card and I am a insured and registered small business.
My passion is to provide an ongoing positive experience for anyone including those who are not able bodied or in the position to financially afford something outside their daily needs.
The experience with my horses will provide a sense of accomplishment through learning to connect and control such a large animal. I will teach each student to use effective communication both verbally and physically to achieve not only a safe result but an overall enjoyable experience that will give confidence to each individual.
Each session with include a safety brief, learning to groom, learning to control on the ground and fun patterns to practice in hand.
My sessions are group sessions that run for an hour in total. I have no more than four (4) participants per session to provide a personal experience for each individual. I keep my prices affordable and although I am aware that it will be funded for each client the cost is only $60 dollars per person.
I would be more than happy to send a sign up sheet if you would like to have clients sign up for a weekly session or happy to answer more questions or provide more information.
If you could please send this email to all your support workers that would be greatly appreciated. This way they can speak directly to their participants and determine if this service is right for them.
I hope this email has been informative enough to spead light on the service I am hoping to provide. Please let me know if your are interested and want your support worker's participants to take part in such an empowering experience.
Have a lovely afternoon!
Regards Leah

Dear valued clients of Lemara Equine,
I will be taking a step back in the business over the next 6 months+ to allow for some behind the scenes organisation to take place. Part of this will be setting up the new business location to provide a safe and organised riding centre for riding lessons and horse training/starting-under-saddle.
Due to the step back I will not be taking on any new clients until further notice. I will be reducing the hours of my regular clientele and will not be running the club days in the near future.
I do apologise for the inconvenience this may cause some of my clients. So please be patient with me and Lemara Equine will be back up and running again even bigger and better.
If I have missed any clients who have pre-purchased sessions at future club days or lesson deals on school horses please contact me and I will refund your money in full as soon as possible.
Ride safe....

If I cannot improve your horses behavior I will refund your MONEY!!!
Ok I know what you are thinking. That is an awfully bold statement! Well you are right, but I trust my training techniques and stand by this statement any day of the week.
I do NOT train horses for the money. Yes, at the end of the day money does need to be made as this is not only my passion but also how I make a living. Although if I can impact the life of a horse and/or rider with my training then it is worth the risk.
If you would like to check me out go to lemaraequine.com

I’ve recently been able to expand my business and have the opportunity to facilitate client horses on site for training and starting under saddle.
This has got me thinking about why would someone want me to train their horse? Why would someone choose me over the many great horse trainers out there?
So, I thought I would share with all my current and future clients a little about my methods and approach to horse training. This may help you decide if I am the right fit for your horses needs.
First, be prepared to be reading a little while. I will try and keep this short to the best of my ability...
Horse training for me is not a job it is a lifestyle. It is something you can do everyday of your life and still be learning along the way. My training techniques are forever evolving and growing each day.
I have heard many great sayings, mottos or quotes but a few have really stuck with me. These are ones I will never forget.
“ There is no room for ego in horse training. It achieves nothing and the horse does not care for showing off. He just wants to please his master and try his best.”
“ The day you stop learning is the day your success stops or fades. Keep learning till the day you die”
“ The horse is the best teacher you will ever have. Stop and listen to your horse. “
“ Bending and flexing is a little like penicillin. It can fix just about anything.”
“ If you ask 1% of your horse for 100 days your horse will be at 100% at day 100. If you ask for 100% on day one you will continue to fail well past day 100. Building a solid foundation takes time- have patience. Baby steps! ‘
All these quotes have helped me in multiply situations with many diffrent horses.
About my methods...
My methods are NOT traditional! To the point sometimes my clients will look at me like I’ve got two heads. Don’t get me wrong, my methods work and have been proven time and time again with results, but they are not traditional.
The way in which I train a horse is quite simple. The crux of my methods is as easy as ‘pressure on, pressure off’.
There is many ways to train a horse, but I believe I have adopted and designed techniques that work for the benefit of the horse.
‘Some’ ( I emphasis some as there are many great horses trainers out there achieving results through similar methods ) horse trainers will load a horse up with pressure to the point of exploding. Why do we think we can continue to load the pressure up without the horse fully understanding what we want from them and expect them NOT to explode? This is like shaking a bottle of lemonade, opening the lid and expecting it not to explode. It’s that simple!
Also ‘some’ trainers will give you a exact date the training will be complete and what you can expect. This is NOT how my training methods work. Each horse learns differently and at a diffrent rate. I may have your horse riding at 2 weeks whereas another may still be long-reining at 6 weeks. My methods are about taking baby steps. Just like the 100% quote. This will make a safe riding horse that has a solid foundation.
First we need to understand how to communicate with a horse. This takes time, patience and a lifetime of learning. Once we understand the horses language we can then effectively communicate with the horse.
Im going to add an example here. Just imagine you were talking to someone who did not understand English. Could you explain to them in 5 minutes a simple task? No, you couldn’t. Although once someone has spent weeks or months teaching you how to speak the language then you could explain the task in a matter of seconds.
This is why I start most of my horses with what I call a ‘pressure test’. It will give me an idea of how much pressure I can apply with a exercise. When pressure is applied in any form you are effectively asking the horse a question. When they answer the question correctly and give to the pressure you then release it. It’s that simple.
I have spent many years with horses, horse trainers and horse riders . Learning from each, sometimes not always learning how to train a horse, but sometimes how NOT to train a horse.
Like I mentioned earlier, the horse is the best teacher. So you can only imagine what a whole herd can teach. I have not only had the privilege of observing from domesticated herds, but have recently had the most amazing time observing a few herds of wild brumbies while living in The Fraser coast for 6 months. The herd dynamics are so interesting to watch and you can learn from their every move. Oh I thought I should mention that the cute gelding in the photo above is one of them!
I don’t actually remember the first horse I rode or touched as horses have always been a part of my life. I grew up with both my parents running two horse riding centres at separate times. We were not the most well off family ( probably because I was one of 7 children ) so part of their income was buying and selling horses. Of course I LOVED this as we had about 8 new horses every month. Our pocket money came from training these horses to be put up for sale. You could only imagine the horses I was put on as a crash dummy, but once again I loved it and still do!
I started making money off of outside clients for training, starting under saddle and instructing when I was about 15 years. This was only so late as I become heavily involved in western performance competition from 10years-17years. I continued this as a career until I got married, had a 7 year Veterinary Nursing career and now I am back FULL-TIME doing what makes my heart sing! In between all of this I was training and instructing on and off .... and also I have a beautiful daughter who is now 2.5 years.
So this is me...if your intrested in training for your horse that gives them a foundation that last and sticks with them for life feel free to get in contact.
Leah x
I recently had the privilege of working with a beautiful mare, Pearl. She was fearful, confused and had some trust issues.
With the short time she was with me we worked through her trust issues and started to fill the gaps that were missing from her previous training.
I will be offering 3 spots for training in the near future. Whether you horse needs some issues worked through, further education or needs to be started under saddle please contact me and we can discuss a plan that best suits your horse.

I wish I had taken a video of this boy only a few weeks ago!
Our first lesson was explained in two words ‘HOT MESS’....he was rushed, unsure of how to respond to leg and was NOT soft in the bridle.
NOW, check him out! After only a few lessons with his owner putting my methods into practice he is soft and responsive. He now gives to the bridle and softens to the leg. Rachel Jones you have done a fantastic job with this fella, you should be very proud!
Looking forward to continuing lessons with you Rachel and excited for your endeavours for the future.
