Maggie is a Melbourne based percussionist who is inspired by a love of Afro-Cuban folklore music and contemporary vibraphone. Inspired by the complexity of the Australian landscape, Maggie explores her musical voice with an experimental edge, drawing on her love of nature and the wilderness.



Having completed a Bachelor of Music with Honours in 2017, in 2018 Maggie spent six months studying music in Cuba. Over the last 7 years Maggie has written for and directed several bands, participating and collaborating in Tasmania’s major arts festivals such as MONA FOMA, Falls Festival, Panama Festival and Ten Days on the Island. Performing regularly at MONA with artists like Brian Richie, Nick Haywood and Petra Haden. As a performer, Maggie enjoys exploring the dynamic soundscapes of percussion in different music settings.

DAYANA OSPINA

Graduated with a Bachelor of Education with a major in Art. Dayana is a philanthropist and music teacher actively working with vulnerable communities and refugees. Nominated for an honour of meritorious mention for her thesis about “the rhythmic formation process in Colombia” she is the founder of the ‘Corporation Socio-Cultural Musical Tempo’ teaching art to children without economic resources and displaced persons from the war. She created the project “Un viaje a traves del tiempo”, “A trip across time”, which was granted with economic support by the local authorities as one of 16 most innovative proposals in art. Winner of multiple music competitions, Dayana was granted a scholarship at La Trobe University to study a Master’s of Education & Leadership.

Vanessa Estrada is a Chilean singer, musician and songwriter based in Melbourne, Australia.

Her music career began at the age of 11, participating in festivals in the city of Parral, then in Santiago, where she graduated as Music Teacher. During this time she formed "Bailahuen"

In 2010, she traveled to New Zealand, where she worked at the New Zealand Modern School of Music and participated in festivals such as "Art in the Park". In 2014, she moved to Melbourne, where she founded the band “Terrasur".

In 2019, Vanessa released her first solo single and video clip, "Renacer" in collaboration with Chilean/Australian producer Oscar Poncell.
The same year, she started a new project called “SunSeeds" .

Vanessa has collaborated with artists from the Melbourne music scene, dabbling in styles such as: Salsa (Calle Luna, Carlitos Way), Jazz and World Music (Faro Negro), Female Vocal Ensemble (Canto Alma), Cumbia (Amaru Tribe) and lastly joining as a singer and drummer in Fuego Cumbé.

Maria is a Colombian designer and artist living in Melbourne since 2008. In 2012 Maria joined “La Descarga Band” as a dancer and later on as a maracones player.

Since then she has been impoving her skills and playing other instruments like Dun Dun and Tambora. Her teachers includes recognise musicians like Jhon Fuentes from “Los Gaiteron De San Jacinto”, Karen Nerak from “La Perla” and Samuel Marmol from “Don Abundio y sus Traviesos”, Mitzi McRae “Melbourne Djembe”

Maria is committed to sharing the beauty and vivacity of Colombian culture through music and dance in her adopted home, Melbourne.

María along with Elizabeth Obando brings Fuego Cumbe alive. an only female band dedicated to celebrate traditional Afro-Colombian music.

Originally from Pasto Colombia, Elizabeth and her passion for music started at the early age of 9 when her dad showed her how to play her first song. She soon joined a local community music group which lead her to form a side project that focused on Andean music. After a few years she realised her love for the bass guitar and continued to play gigs around town. She had the opportunity to play with some outstanding local artist including Danta Nativa (latin fusion rock), Bambarabanda (Andean sounds from Colombia), in 2008 she recorded her solo album Elicold which brought together her passion for Andean and rock music. She moved to Melbourne Australia at the end of 2008, in 2009 she studied music at NMIT and started working as a freelance musician in the Melbourne music scene, she has played bass in various salsa bands such as Santiago Son, Victor y Los Muñecos, Orulas Crew, Carlitos Way, Del Barrio, Bataola, Kekoson, La 45, among others. She has also played with The Electric I (conceptual rock), Joe Bataan for his Melbourne tour, The New Monos and African bands Alariiya and Lamine Sonko and the African Intelligence. A highlight in her musical career was to be invited to play with one of her favourite salsa bands El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico.
Elizabeth has founded working together with other fellow musicians many original music projects such as Elicold (2008) Songosorongo (2009) Clavemania Latin Jazz (2011), Ella Trinidad (2016), Calle Luna (2018), Queen of Hearts Mariachi (2019) The Sunseeds (2019) Fuego Cumbe (2020) 🔥

She is currently collaborating and composing with local Melbourne artists

Today is the birthday of our beloved Katherine Gailer, and we want to use this opportunity to celebrate her life and her presence in our lives. ✨

Katherine Gailer is a committed multidisciplinary artist and lyricist. Originally from Colombia and currently working in Australia, Gailer’s work underscores a main theme that looks at the complex relationship between fragility and strength, vulnerability and empowerment.

She graduated with honours from a Bachelor of Fine Arts and completed an Arts Management Masters Degree– both at RMIT University. Her Practice incorporates oil painting, mural work, spoken word and music.

As Amaru Tribe's female lead singer, Gailer incorporates elements of urban sounds, raises her voice to represent women on stage and has a positive impact on the community around her.

Playing to the beat of traditional Colombian drums from both the Pacific and Atlantic regions, Fuego Cumbe honours the high-energy, Afro-influenced rhythms that form the basis for many popular contemporary Latin music genres, and revives traditional Colombian musical styles including Bullerengue, Cumbia, Currulao, Chalupa, Mapale, Puya, Vallenato, Porro and Chande.
