These deprescribing guidelines are a great leap forward in health and wellbeing. Changing medications or tapering off them can be difficult and destressing. The signs and symptoms of your bodies chemistry trying to adjust to the changes can be painful and hard to navigate to say the least.
I have found yoga therapy to be a great help when people are adjusting or reducing their medications. A gentle supportive practice to help with stabilising the nervous system, cultivating positive emotions, hope, and inner peace. This helps to stimulate endogenous chemicals for wellbeing and remind the you of the path and journey to recovery is there.
Weekend retreats, weekly group classes or individual sessions are available. ✨

Healing trauma requires a sense of safety. Many experts recognise three phases that are important to heal trauma. The heart chakra's innate qualities are: compassion, humility, patience, love, kindness and care. The qualities of the heart are the key for safety and healing. The magic ingredient for any healing process. xx

Goddess Tara, 💖goddess of compassion and healing. 💖The last time I spent quality time with my friend and teacher .peter we went to a beautiful workshop on the Goddess Tara @ The Temple on the Park in Newtown. Tara was the deity on the alter at the studios as she is the female buddha. She is on my alter at home. She is the goddess of compassion and healing amongst other things. These are the qualities I practice in my teaching always. I always had the intention that the studios and my classes were and are a place of healing and compassion and called in Tara to assist. 💖 Ask Tara for some assistance in healing and enlightenment. She is said to be swift with her responses. 💖

Into Your Heart is a trauma recovery training which includes somatic, affective and spiritual learnings alongside the cognitive learning. Training therapist is to develop compassion, presence and body-breath-energy awareness. These are key qualities of a therapist when supporting people who have had their sense of safety in relationships impacted through abuse and/or neglect. Over a decade ago .house.au .peter and I collaborated to create and facilitate a holistic, heart centred and scientifically based trauma recovery training for social workers, psychologists and therapists. I am looking forward to running this again with Peter in spirit alongside Mary Jo and I 💖💖💖 Stay tuned for dates 💕🙏🏼💕
We had such a beautiful time on retreat on the weekend. Lots of connection, laughter, relaxation and nourishing, delicious food by and from the . Everyone looked relaxed, refreshed and renewed with smiles on their faces by Sunday. 🥰 I felt my dear teacher .peter around me whilst I taught. ❤️Many of my teachings were taught to me by Peter and I have eternal gratitude for that. 🙏🏼 Stay tuned for the next retreat dates. ❤️🧘 Thank you for hosting us at your beautiful venue 🙏🏼
I wanted to share with you the news that my dear friend, teacher and beautiful man .peter has left this world. Peter came and shared many practices, stories and laughs with us at the studios for our yoga communities. He will be missed and I hope his teachings carry on with you all. When I think of Peter I think of the heart sutra which he led me in chanting countless times. Peter was a seeker, a teacher, a healer and a dear friend. “Gone, gone, gone to the other shore. Gone completely to the other shore. Svaha” 💖🙏🏼
The Vayus, “winds” describe the different flow of life force through our systems. Prana vayu - inspiration (inward and forward) Apana vayu - elimination (downward) Vyana vayu - circulation (all around, pervasive). Udana vayu - speech (upward) Samana - digestion (inward, towards centre). Balancing the vayus brings health, vitality and wellbeing. 🕉️ In yoga therapy we investigate how the energy is flowing and seek to rebalance and/maintain balance through lifestyle changes and a wide range of Yoga practices and techniques. Here is a lovely Vedic chant to honour the life forces and meditate on them. This is an excerpt from The Healing Sounds of Vedic Chants - Hamsa Hyder (2015)
Putting trauma-informed principles into practice supports better service outcomes and client experience (Blue Knot, 2021). When we experience events in our life that are traumatic and espeically if events are reoccurring, it can affect our send of safety, empowerment and dignity. Trauma-informed help to restore our sense of safety and dignity. These principles are simple however, require practice and awarness to embody them as a way of being and relating to others.
All paths become one.

The yamas are “restraints” and are practiced as attitudes so through thoughts, words and deeds (cognitive behavioural so to speak). As with the other 8 limbs of yoga such as asana and breath work, they are practices to establish and help maintain a state of yoga which is a clear, steady and present state of mind. I like to teach and practice the yamas by encouraging curiosity about how you relate to these attitudes in the context of your life. They are something to cultivate in your daily interactions with others, the environment and yourself not “good” or “bad” rules to judge by. This week in some of our groups we explored how these attitudes create more peace of mind. 💖
Here is a simple yet powerful practice to ground you, focus your attention, help sit with strong emotional responses and develop the power of presence.
- Place one hand on or near the centre of your chest and take 5-10 slower and deeper breaths consciously through the nose.
In any yoga or meditation practice, look for more comfort and less efforting and strain described in the ancient texts as sthira and sukha - stability and ease, alertness and comfort.
I have a 4-Week Meditation Course coming up if you would like some guidance and support to establish a meditation practice.
