Can you believe its almost Christmas?! If 2020 went by fast, 2021 was even faster.
I wanted to touch in with you to say thank you for your support during this year. I know the year has presented lots of challenges and a lot of change for many people. And its these times that the practices of yoga and meditation can help us the most.
I hope that some of the interactions we have had have helped you in some way to ease into a comfortable flow and rhythm in life, or perhaps guided you towards some moments of peace or a different perspective.
This year ahead will bring lots of change for me. We are headed back over to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, after 6 years in Perth. You may have noticed I have been on social media a little less lately ... I've been busy selling our house and packing up!
I hope to update you from the East Coast early in the new year with some very exciting developments with Samyama Life, which continues to grow.
Again, many thanks for your support and I look forward to sharing more with you from sunny Queensland!
Have a very merry Christmas!
With love
Sarah
I am beyond thrilled to share that Ta**ra's Toolbox mentoring container is kicking off in July! If your practice has reached a plateau and you are ready to take it deeper, Ta**ra's Toolbox is your pathway forward. Designed as a walk through essential Ta***ic Yoga techniques, you will learn not only how they work and why they work, but what they mean in the context of your practice and your life.

Hi all! Next week kicking off Monday 21st, I am hosting a free Energy in Yoga Masterclass. And I'm so excited to be sharing this incredible wisdom ... it's shaping up to be so so good!
If you teach or simply if you want to learn more about energy management, prana, from the Yogic/Ta***ic perspective, you won't want to miss this online event.
These are the tools that lifted my own practice hugely and impacted my daily life so much.
Day one: Mapping the terrain of the energy body & understanding energy movement in asana
Day two: The power of pranayama and how to link it into your practice
Day three: Beautiful bandhas! Now that we know how energy moves, lets begin to collect it during asana using bandhas
Day four: Active Ta***ic meditation.
There will be exercises for you to do, so that you come out of the masterclass with a fully developed sequence and an understanding of how to do it for yourself next time.
Jump in before the spots are taken.

Hot tips for grounding anxiety that will soothe and nourish your soul x
Yoohoo!
Hey guys, I am super excited to let you know that I have just uploaded the first couple of short and sweet 20minute Yoga Asana sequences to YouTube 🙂
Each sequence is designed to prepare you for the meditation to come. So if you are doing a meditation to calm and ground yourself, you'll be able to choose a yoga asana sequence to do first with the same intention, thus really getting the most out of your practice.
This style of yoga asana incorporates breath work, dynamic movement, intention/feel, physical postures, bandha and mantra. So you'll be well sorted on all levels to really prepare you for your meditation.
I would LOVE to know what you think! Jump across and subscribe/like/comment. This is the first time I have made any videos on YouTube, so be kind, but constructive feedback is welcome and loved!

Purusha is our sense of self - in fact it's the nature of consciousness itself. It means the one who dwells in the city of the body and is the essence of every living thing on and off our planet. I still remember the shift in my perspective when I heard this. It felt like I was seeing the world the right way up for the first time, and that previously it had all been topsy turvy.
For Purusha the body and mind are merely instruments. The body is the outer instrument and the mind is the inner instrument. As we grow we identify with the instruments that we have been given to explore the world with to the point that we think that we ARE these external instruments. When we identify so much with these instruments, we lose sight of our inner self, and thus lose sight of our connectivity to and with the whole macrocosm.
Our modern life, based on compteitive systems and 'survival of the fittest' makes it challenging to retain the essence of this wholeness as we move throughout our day, our week, even our years.
But we yearn for connectivity, and many of us look, out of habit, to our external instruments for it. We create relationships, we break relationships, citing all the reasons in the world for the break up other than the real one. Connectivity with self must come first. For any external relationship to flourish, the internal relationship must be sound first. Meditation is the answer to the question you have yet to ask.

Ayurvedic inspired morning routines 🥰
A lot of people in my community have told me they have trouble sticking to their meditation practice.
So I've created this free Master Class to help you go from frustrated to free 🙂
This class is for you if:
- you have troubles sitting properly in meditation
- you are challenged when it comes to making a daily practice of meditating
- you are not getting genuinely transformative change from your meditation practice
- you are feeling frustrated about your practice or just about ready to give up!
- you simply want to get set up for meditation in a systematic and effective way
- you want to improve the impact of your practice
We will work through how to set yourself up for meditation success by addressing the steps involved and I will make sure there is time to answer any of your questions on meditation.
This is a practical session and we will be doing rather than just learning theory.
You will get:
- clarity on the right meditation practice for you and why
- practical tools to help you create a habit of your practice
- certainty on where you want your meditation practice to take you and a pathway forward to get you there
- advice on how sit and how to set up your physical environment
- your personal practice articulated and designed
The Master Class is an hour and a half and will take place live Friday 19th February at 9am AWST. (Recording will be made available after the live for a week)
Places are limited as I want to be able to answer your questions as we work through your workbook 🙂
PM me with any questions and look forward to seeing you there!

Come and join me for Ta***ic Hatha Yoga - the complete yoga practice - live streamed this Thursdays 4th Feb at 9.30am AWST.
This particular practice has been completely designed around the meditation experience. The yoga asana has been selected to move energy up and stimulate vyana vayu - one of the 5 primary energies in the body and the one responsible for circulation and distribution. So you can expect laterals, extensions and backbend yoga postures. The pranayama is inhale focussed and solely designed to get you ready for the meditation on inner space. There is so much to learn from practices like this ...
Ta***ic hatha yoga from my lineage is phenomenally precise, powerful and uplifting. I would love for you to experience it, purely for the sake of its impact on your meditation practice!
The session will be recorded and you can access it for a week afterwards. Bookings essential: https://www.samyamalife.com/pages/what-we-offer
I am often asked the question, how do I know if I'm meditating right?
And its a really simple answer ... has the quality of your life improved?
There is a direct correlation between the two, and there should be right? Otherwise, why are we meditating?
You will know that you are doing the right practice when:
- Your perspective begins to shift
- Life starts aligning with who you really are in subtle yet profound ways
- You are genuinely more self aware
- You're less inclined to have emotional outbursts
- You become more intuitively drawn to healthy habits and relationships
If you are spending hours on the cushion without results, then its time to do an audit and get systematic about your practice.
What do you want from meditating? What practices will get you there? What do you need to adjust in your lifestyle to support your direction?
The quality of your practice will be reflected in the quality of your life

This is the biggest myth in meditation - so if you are using this excuse to not meditate, find a new one!
Meditation is far from emptying the mind for no good reason.
Meditation is about infusing the mind with the qualities that you want ...
Calm, patience, love, compassion, power, enthusiasm, courage ...
All of this and so much more can be cultivated through meditation.
The trick is in choosing the right practice for you - one that will bring balance to you and address your current state of mind.
So if you are struggling to 'clear your mind', do a practice that keeps is busy - just with other stuff :)
Let me know if you have questions!
x
Ever met those kind of loopy yogi-meditation type people..?
They mutter to themselves a lot, are a bit twitchy, are really touchy and highly sensitive and are often incredibly dedicated to their practice.
Those are the ones that didn't cultivate calm first :)
Seriously, before we go building and expanding our presence in the world, we need to have our foundation of CALM and STABILITY firmly in place.
Otherwise, we just build on our imbalances.
In 2021 I will be launching the Calm and Clarity Project, so if you want to get the foundation of life right first, let me know.
We'll do a systematic dive into yoga, meditation, pranayama, mantra and more.
Let it marinate :)
Have a fab day beautiful people.
Sarah

Do you YOGA?
I do!
Yoga asana is an incredible complementary practice to meditation and one which can certainly help you achieve your meditation goals much faster.
It has helped me to develop such an intimate knowledge and appreciation of the anamaya kosha - the first of 5 layers to who we are.
It is then meditation practices and pranayama which can take us past the physical and into the more subtle realms - the energy and mental bodies.
I teach ta***ic hatha yoga which is very much a holistic approach to the mind, body and soul.
In every class I teach, I endeavour to help people connect with their authentic selves on a deeper level than just the physical.
Every pose has an energetic imprint, which when combined with breath work and meditation can have a incredibly powerful impact.
This year I'll be teaching at a little studio in Osbourne Park, Perth and can't wait to share these powerful teachings with you.
Time to practice!
x
Its called tapas - and without a tapas practice, your meditation practice and your growth remains vulnerable to your weaknesses.
Go after that thing that is stopping you meditate, that voice that says, nah i don't feel like exercise today and that propulsion to reach for the unhealthy choices.
Identify it, and go after it relentlessly with energy, hard core determination and fire.
Achieving the life you want is 100% possible with the right practices in place.
You CAN do it.
x
I used to dress for other people and the places I was going to.
And yes I admit it, there was a time, when I had at least 30 pairs of shoes and most were high heels... :)
The external world had a big impact on me and the choices I would make.
Self enquiry and meditation were there for me, but not in a systematic way.
Fast forward a good few years and the way I present myself to the world is a direct reflection of my relationship with myself.
I know what I like and I know what feels good on my body.
I love walking with my feet squarely on the ground and after over a decade of committed yoga practice, my relationship to gravity is very different now.
I don't second guess how I look because how I feel in something is far more important.
When I worked and lived in Southern Africa, I didn't own a mirror and I loved not being able to see my reflection.
The confidence I show up with now comes from deep within me, its not based on appearances but my authentic Self.
I'm beautiful from the inside out and so, my friend, are you

Did you know there are specific ways to breath that can change your state of mind, how you feel and your experience in meditation?
Inhale is enlivening, and sympathetic nervous system activating. So If you are doing a meditation that is activating and building energy, you will want to emphasise inhale.
Exhale impacts our para sympathetic nervous system - the rest and digest one - so if you are looking for calm, emphasise exhale.
And in between those two is a one to one breathing ratio for deep stability; one of the most important things to cultivate in life
In your meditation on the breath, use a count of 4 or 6 on inhale and a count of or 6 when you exhale.
Enjoy my friends!
When I used to write for a living, I found it super helpful to put a draft down for a few days and come back to it after time had passed.
I would see things with fresh eyes again and mistakes that were hidden to me before would be suddenly as plain as day.
But in life, it's not like we can just walk away from it to get perspective.
(As lovely as that would be sometimes!)
But instead, we have meditation.
Meditation fits neatly into our day and can give us this same sense of space and perspective which is so valuable and so necessary.
By allowing myself to put down my 'stuff' down and return to calm equilibrium, I get to see things with a fresh and clear perspective.
I can see my problems or things that I have been dwelling on much clearer than before.
When coupled with a kriya meditation to let go, or find clarity, I can speed up the processes involved much faster than I would have in the past.
Rather than holding on, we let go. Rather than poisoning ourselves with resentment, we shift into forgiveness ... in a matter of hours rather than days, weeks or even years.
Give yourself the gift of perspective, meditate!
Sarah :)
