Many people underestimate the importance of choosing the correct stress control in high harmonic installations. Here partial discharge was found on some terminations resulting from high levels of harmonic distortion and voltage stressors not being contained within a cable termination. When installations have high levels of harmonic distortion, geometric stress control options are always the best choice. If you need a contractor who knows the difference. Give us a call!

Why you should perform condition assessments on your HV Cables

When we get calls from clients regarding cable failures there is a general theme that occurs time and time again. “We didn’t realise the cable was in such bad condition” they would say after seeing the destruction caused by the failure.

High voltage cables are a common and frequent cause of outages, but how can you determine if they are in good working order?

Our latest article discusses the high-performance characteristics of healthy cabling and testing techniques useful in determining the quality of your HV cabling.

We have come to the completion of our Gold Coast project where we were engaged to complete cable terminations, cable testing, transformer commissioning, earth grid commissioning and protection relay commissioning. Was an excellent project to be a part of and thank you to everyone involved for a top effort resulting in a successful project.

Here we are performing a new RMU installation and pad-mount transformer in Logan last week. The works consisted of transformer commissioning, RMU commissioning, earth grid verification testing and cable terminations. Meant for a busy week for our team battling storms and hot weather but we managed to stay on top of our schedule and get the client up and running over a 14hr shutdown. ⚡️

Servicing and overhauling a 690/11,000V transformer last week. Fixed several leaking bushings and found a high contact resistance on the tap changer. People think power transformers require no maintenance as they have no moving parts however the opposite is true. Yearly inspections and testing can significantly improve their lifespan. If your power transformers are overdue for their maintenance, feel free to reach out and contact us.

How to Locate Sheath Faults on MV Cables

Maintaining healthy sheath insulation is extremely important for the safe operation and lifespan of an MV cable. If there are faults in the outer sheath you can expect ingress of moisture, debris, and premature degradation of the cables structure.

Our latest article highlights a real world sheath fault and how we were able to utilise specific test equipment enabling us to locate the fault very easily and accurately.

High voltage electrical systems can be extremely dangerous if you do not know what you're doing. Generally, high voltages are only seen in utility services, mining operations, and large industrial processing plants and therefore the dangers are not as well known as you may think.

Our latest article highlights the importance for all workers, not just electrical workers to understand the safety of working in and around high voltage areas.

Oil Sampling & DGA Analysis of Power Transformers

Power transformers are one of the most important pieces of equipment when it comes to electrical distribution. They are responsible for the transformation of higher voltages from distribution to lower voltages as seen in everyday electrical equipment. In our latest article, we talk about the relationship between the common Oil filled Transformer Sampling, DGA Analysis and the importance of a healthy transformer in relation to the reliability of their power systems.

The Basics of LV Circuit Breaker Maintenance

In our latest article, we talk about the importance of understanding the construction and importance of the humble circuit breaker as they are used in nearly every installation from domestic buildings to high voltage electrical utility substations.

They are heavily relied upon to protect our electrical systems when abnormal circumstances arise. With varying shapes, styles, and sizes it is important to understand the correct methods for maintaining this equipment to ensure the safety of people and your assets is not at risk.

We’ve had a busy week with some emergency works for a client in Woolloongabba. Some partial discharge and corona inside some cable boxes required us to replace 4 x main PILC cables on some critical 11kV feeders. Some in-line joints and new terminations to a TR/XLPE cable has sorted the issue relieving some stress for the client.

What is the purpose of the screen and Semi-conductive layer on MV Cables?

In most modern Medium Voltage cables, especially underground, cables are shielded, or screened with an earthing conductor. The screen consists of lapped copper tape or metallic foil usually less than 1mm thickness which is the interface between the conductor and the insulation (PVC, XLPE)

In our latest article we discuss the main purpose of this conductive screen and the technical specifics behind it. Find out more by checking out our latest article right on our website:
