Learning doesn't have to be complicated ❤️

Today while having breakfast at a Cafe, Franks noticed the numbers 107. As soon as she saw it she asked:

🤔 what is 1+0+7?

She then preceded to use her fingers and work it out.

🧮 she put her hand up, closed one eye and made the 7 'disappear'

Now there is a TEN! she said.

I then gave her a few more scenarios.

🤔 what if you get rid of the 1
🤔 what if you switch the 7
🤔what if you add 7 + 1
🤔 what if you take 1 away from 7
Etc, etc

She worked it out using her fingers.

Then something else grabbed her attention and that was that.

No forced learning, no worksheets, child led activity followed by some adult led prompts that she enjoyed solving.

Real life learning.

That's what it's all about ❤️

I promise.

Unfortunately when it comes to homeschooling most of us have been conditioned to think that we aren't learning unless we are at school.

💢 NEWSFLASH 💢
We never actually stop learning. We are in fact learning all the time. Learning is not bound to a classroom, textbooks, teacher and a 9-3 schedule.

🌈Your kids are learning when they head outside and appreciate nature.

🌈Your kids are learning when they share a story with you.

🌈Your kids are learning when you cook or bake something in the kitchen.

🌈Your kids are learning when they chat to your neighbours.

So when you feel like you are not doing enough, I promise that you are! We just haven't been taught what learning REALLY looks like ❤️

What makes you feel good?
Why do we do things this way?
What makes your days flow?
How can you explore new topics or experiences?

Model to your child thinking out loud and spark the curiosity in them as well! 🧐
