How is your gut health?

A useful tip.

Bacteria in the wall of out gut plays an important role in overall health. These bacteria are in direct contact with the food we eat therefore affecting the nutrients we absorb and the energy stored in our bodies.

Inflamation in the gut lining caused by a poor diet and even alcohol consumption equals poor gut health and this can lead to weight gain.

To improve your gut health it is recommended to eat lots of fresh vegetables, kimchi, kefir, miso, sauerkraut, pickes and yoghurt.
Keeping a healthy food regime, excercise, keepeing hydrated (water) and not over filling the gut is a good idea.

NEVER GET INTO YOUR OWN WAY.

What are the triggers that cause you to get into your own way in preventing you achieve your goals whether it is losing weight, living a healthier lifestyle, achieving monetary goals or anything at all.

Self sabotage comes from fear of failure, lacking confidence and low self esteem and sometimes work and social pressures.

Once you have identified the triggers, learn how to deal with them.

Excuses like "I'll do it tomorrow"or "I'll start next week"or "I'll start on monday"are some of the most common statements.

We may all be guilty of the above at some stage of our lives.

Whether you want to start a health and diet routine like Paleo, or an excercise regime or whatever it is, there is no better time than NOW.

Be positive and take action now, time does not wait for anyone.

HOW MANY STEPS A DAY? HOW MANY DO YOU DO?

Did you know that new research at a Sydney university say that the ideal number is now more like 7,500 steps a day rather than the 10,000 steps that we were told previously.

So if you can do 7,500 steps every day there is a 40% less chance of dying from any cause. Doing these steps daily equates to approx. one hour corresponding to 5-6 kilometres.

What do you think about this?

It is easier to achieve, but you need to be consistent.

In my opinion, this is a minimum per day, the more steps, the better for you.

Summer Stone Fruit.

Has anyone else noticed how some stone fruit mainly peaches and nectarines are always cold when purchasing from the stores and then after 1, 2, or 3 days at home they wrinkle, soften and sometimes are brown inside and cannot be consumed, not mentioning the total lack of flavour?

Pears also seem to turn from bright green to yellow and soften very quickly.

We, the consumer pay very high prices for our fruit and vegetables and it seems a lot of it both money and fruit go down the drain.

This both angers me and concerns me as every summer comes and goes and here we go again.

What are we actually eating? (when we can).
How early is the fruit picked?
How is the fruit kept and how long before it's displayed in stores for purchase?
Is it sprayed to last and look attractive so the consumer buys it?
If sprayed what is the spray?
Is fruit been kept artificially?
Are there preservatives to keep the fruit looking good on the outer and if so what are they?

I am not aware of any complaints been made in public though I could be wrong.

Does any one else feel the same?

Does anyone else care?

Keen to see responses and what the general consensus is.

ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM INFLAMMATION?

Inflammation is part of the body's natural immune response when the body is fighting infection or injury. Swelling, redness and pain are the normal reaction.

When inflammation lingers and doesn't go away it becomes chronic which means the body id in constant high alert and this can trigger health issues e.g heart disease, diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer's.

Diet can play a role and below are some food suggestions that can help lower inflammation. Taking medication for chronic pain may come with side effects so do the natural thing first before you resort to meds.

Anti-inflammatory foods to eat....

Fresh fruit - grapefruit, grapes, blueberries, bananas, apples, mangoes, peaches, tomatoes, pomegranates.

Vegetables - broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, bok choy, leafy greens, kale, spinach.

Dried fruit.

Plant based proteins.

Fatty fish - salmon, sardines, tuna, herring, mackerel.

Nuts & Seeds - walnuts, almonds, chia seeds, flaxseed.

Oils with Omega-3 fatty acids - avocado, olive oil.

Coffe, green tea.

Chocolate and wine - in moderation.

OTHER CALCIUM SOURCES OTHER THAN DAIRY.

Essential for healthy bones, normal muscle and nerve function and for helping blood to clot properly, is why we need calcium.

Deficiency of calcium can lead to osteoporosis and put health at risk.

Below are a number of foods that are high in calcium or are fortified with it and are dairy free.

1. Soy, rice and nut milk.

2. Tofu.

3. Kale, Bok Choi, Broccoli, Collard greens, spinach, swiss chard -
note all these greens vegetables.

4. Rhubarb.

5. Almonds.

6. Navy beans, pinto beans.

7. Brazil nuts.

8. Stewed tomatoes (more concentrated form)

9. Orange juice that has been fortified with calcium.
