Coconut Water: In Ayurveda, coconut water is praised for its cooling properties, making it an ideal beverage for the Australian summer. It helps balance Pitta dosha, associated with heat, and provides essential electrolytes, keeping the body hydrated and cool.
Mint: Mint is known for its ability to pacify excess heat in the body. In summer, Australians often turn to mint-infused drinks or incorporate fresh mint leaves into their meals. It aids digestion, soothes inflammation, and contributes to a refreshing sensation.
Cucumber: With its high water content and astringent qualities, cucumber is a recommended Ayurvedic food for the summer in Australia. It helps maintain hydration, promotes a sense of lightness, and supports skin health by reducing excess heat.
Coriander: Coriander, commonly used in Ayurvedic cuisine, is believed to have a cooling effect on the body. Australians may use coriander leaves in salads, chutneys, or garnishes, benefiting from its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to balance Pitta.
Ghee (Clarified Butter): While commonly associated with winter in Ayurveda, moderate amounts of ghee are also suggested in summer. Ghee is considered to have a cooling effect on the body and can be used in cooking to enhance flavours without causing excess heat.
These Ayurvedic foods align with the principles of balancing doshas, particularly Pitta, to help us Aussies stay cool, hydrated, and maintain overall well-being during the warmer months.
Our next Ayurzen Cleanse dates will be officially announced very soon! ๐
Everything we need is around us. ๐ During summer, create harmony in your body by realigning your habits and food intake with that which is suitable for the season.
One way to create harmony in the body, is to embark on a gentle cleanse. Ayurvedic methods of cleansing during the summer are super gentle, keeping digestion easy and energy levels stable. When we form lasting habits, such as regular practices, we feel empowered, radiant and energised.
One cleanse recipe I keep coming back to is this one - Buckwheat Pancakes.
Ingredients: โข Whole Buckwheat โ 1โ2 cup โข Non-homogenized milk โ 3 tbsp โข Water โ 1 cup
Method:
1. Blend all the ingredients, adding water a little at the time, to make a smooth, runny batter.
2. Heat tawa or any non-stick pan to low heat.
3. Coat pan with 1/2 teaspoon of ghee, pour on 2 tablespoons of batter & spread to make a thin pancake.
4. When bubbles start appearing on surface of pancake, turnover and cook other side, spooning ghee around edges to make crisp.
5. Serve with spiced poached pears, honey or maple syrup.
Comments: A light & easy to digest meal. Make sure to make the batter a thin consistency. This is a versatile recipe, great to make savoury pancakes or as a sweet option with sweet and juicy fruits like poached pears or peaches.

If you have had a day of hard work, exertion or been unwell, it is important to have a drink that contains some extra salts and sugars to replace electrolytes. The lovely little drink is quick to settle and nourish an overheated system.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Juice of 1/2-1 lime
A good pinch of Himalayan pink rock salt
1 tsp of jaggery (unrefined cane sugar available at Indian supermarkets)
METHOD
Put all ingredients in a glass and dissolve in warm to hot water. Allow to cool to room temperature and sip slowly.
Please do give some of these drinks a try and keep an eye on your hydration this Summer. It is actually more important than you realise and can be a tasty adventure in the process!
Cheers to a rejuvenating summer. I am back at The Chi Hub, you can book now for your 2024 appointments on my website.

The traditional massage technique of Abyhanga involves the application of warm, herbal-infused oil to the entire body, with a focus on rhythmic and synchronised strokes. Abhyanga is particularly revered for its ability to balance Vata dosha, one of the three fundamental energies in Ayurveda governing the nervous system; it can also be self administered.
Vata imbalance can lead to anxiety, restlessness, and various neurological issues. The warm oil used in Abhyanga penetrates deep into the tissues, nourishing and grounding the nervous system. The massage not only alleviates physical tension but also calms the mind, fostering a sense of relaxation and tranquility.
Through regular practice, Abhyanga is believed to pacify Vata dosha, thereby promoting mental clarity, emotional stability, and overall vitality. The perfect remedy to relieve the hustle and bustle of this busy time of year.
If you'd prefer to relax and have someone do it for you, jump online and book yourself a session at he Chi Hub with me.

As we move from one season to another, our bodies respond to the shifts in climate, daylight, and energy. Ayurveda recognises three doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha - each associated with specific qualities that are influenced by the season.
In the southern hemisphere, we are entering the warmer months, marked by an increase in Pitta energy. Check out my previous posts for some tips to pacify the Pitta dosha - or sign up for my newsletter to learn more.

In the southern hemisphere, we are entering the warmer months, marked by an increase in Pitta energy. To stay in tune with this shift, I'd like to offer three simple practices and foods that can support your well-being.
Embrace Cooling Yoga and Breathwork: As the temperature rises, itโs essential to balance the internal heat generated by the season. Opt for yoga practices that emphasise cooling postures and soothing breathwork. Poses like Sh*tali Pranayama (cooling breath) and Sheetkari Pranayama (hissing breath) can be particularly beneficial. These practices help calm the mind, reduce excess heat, and maintain a sense of balance.
Hydrate with Ayurvedic Infusions: Pitta season tends to elevate internal heat, making hydration crucial. Instead of reaching for cold beverages, consider Ayurvedic infusions to cool and nourish your body. A refreshing infusion of mint, coriander, and fennel seeds is not only delicious but also helps pacify Pitta. These herbs have cooling properties that aid digestion and keep your body temperature in check. Sip on these throughout the day to stay hydrated and balanced.
Choose Seasonal, Pitta-Pacifying Foods: Adapting your diet to the season is a cornerstone of Ayurvedic wisdom. In the warmer months, focus on incorporating sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes to balance the heat. Opt for seasonal fruits like juicy melons, berries, and pears, as well as cooling vegetables like cucumber, zucchini, and leafy greens. Include grains like basmati rice and quinoa, which are soothing and easy to digest.
Cooling spices like coriander, mint, and fennel can enhance the flavour of your meals while supporting your bodyโs equilibrium.

Hey there, Iโm Rachel and Iโm so glad youโre here...
Do you have a feeling deep down that life could be easier? That you could have more energy, wake up with radiance ready for each new day?
There was a time in my life that I struggled with anxiety, addictions, and felt confused about how to take care of my body. I tried fad diets, then binged, then a new fad and so on.. bloated, tired, anxious and confused I knew there had to be a better way.
When Ayurveda found me it quickly began to change my life for the better. I knew for the first time why some foods worked for me and others didnโt. Why I was anxious and how to overcome it. With the support of many great teachers, therapists and community I found the support I needed to learn, heal and begin to live life more fully.
It would be an absolute honour to share my experience in these healing modalities. If this resonates and you'd like to learn more, please reach out.โจ๐๐ฝ

Learning together, sharing knowledge, discussing alternative perspectives and ideas lights us up if we are open and willing. Conscious Movie Nights are providing the most wholesome platform for all of this.
Our community gathered for the final time this year with a film showing the foundations for Ayurveda and how these principles can elevate your current state of health. It is my absolute pleasure and calling to share this medicine, and I was so honoured to share this with fellow practitioner Wayne Sullivan - Yukti Ayurveda & Yoga.
