Autoclave Validation AS 5369 2023 is updated and here is everything you need to know!

Your service technician to comply must:

* Run a full vacuum test – by the service technician

*Run a full bowie dick test – by the service technician

*Run 3 [three] full cycles using 3 x biological indicators per cycle, with calibrated data loggers [calibrated by an official NATA certified business] – by the service technician

*The service technician’s data loggers must be calibrated yearly by an approved NATA certified business

The above are non-negotiables!

Even before the new standard, at First Response Dental, this is what we've always done. We have never asked the clinic staff to run any of the cycles with biological indicators... EVER!

If you ring/text/email Keith, 99% of the time, he won’t be able to answer, he is working back to back jobs to ensure you are working, so the chances of him calling you back is minimal.

IF you are lucky enough to speak to him, you still need to follow it up with a call/email to the office to make sure it gets booked in. I might be his wife, but he also forgets to tell me things too, and which can be forgiven since he leaves home most morning before 6am!

Well that was a long day. Finally home for some much needed sleep

Reunited again! How wonderful it was to get the call from Shwati from Melbourne Centre For Dentistry ! We’ve missed her and they have missed us!

We performed a full equipment health check and have worked out a proper maintenance plan for them!

Keith forgot he is ‘old’ and went and played soccer with our daughter on Sunday, did not wear any shoes and we think he has torn ligament.

He’s been fitted with a moon boot and got some crutches and with a few days rest hopefully back at it on Monday, just a little slower than normal.

Autoclave Service + Validation - Did you know that the Australian Standard states that the technician performing the Validation MUST stay on-site for ALL 3 CYCLES... however, this is not done by all companies.

Here at FRD, there is no way we are leaving until all 3 cycles have been completed and passed. It is OUR name, OUR reputation, and OUR livelihood. The Australian Standards state that all 3 cycles have to be completed and if you rely on someone else to complete these, they might not, it might fail, they don't know what they are looking for etc.

First Response Dental is founded by me, Keith. You may recognise me from the many, MANY years I spent working for Sirona!

After 20 years of being in the business, we still love what we do, so much, we decided it was time for us to branch out and build our own business!

Worked Saturday and then all of a sudden your suction motor stops? You panic because you’ve got a full day booked for Monday? CALL US!

DOWN TIME = LOST INCOME

Keith is out on site at 2:30pm Saturday 3 October fixing this suction motor so the surgery can work to full capacity Monday.

This morning we did a Site Inspection in Mt Eliza and now we get to hang out with the crew from Dental One servicing and validating their DAC Universal and DAC Premium Plus Autoclaves!
