Product Update 01 Mar 23

We have recently had to make the decision to stop selling our products via eBay.

Although we got our start via eBay, we soon realised that the fees we were paying were making it difficult to offer quality products at reasonable prices. We started our website late in 2021 (www.badgerwax.com.au) and now make most of our sales through this channel - it allows us to personalise our listings, contact customers more freely, increase our product offerings without restriction and add a blog/tutorials (something we are planning to do in the future).

We would like to thank all of our customers for their suppot up until this point, and hope we can still meet your chain waxing needs in the future. Keep an eye out for more new product listings and feel free to get in contact with us if you have any questions via our contact us page - we would love to hear from you!

We now sell pre-waxed Wippermann Connex 11 speed SO chains at www.badgerwax.com.au so you don't have to! They come with a Wippermann Connex quick link for easy installation and removal by hand, making them ideal for use in waxing.

Whether you are looking to gain back lost watts due to friction or increase the life of your drivetrain, these chains are for you. We have a very limited quantity of these chains available, get in quick if you would like to wax without the laborious set up process!

Captain's Log 25 Sep 22

Back from Darwin and enduring the "I just started riding again" pains. Things I rode in Darwin (pics below) - big bronze crocodile and a rather tepid electric scooter that reached the neck break (probably literally on those things) speed of 15km/h. You know it is slow when I can average a faster speed on my bike...found some interesting Darwin street art though.

I came back to Newcastle to some dry weather and had a small overlap with the Badger, so we got a ride in before he left. He has been on the bike a lot more than me in the last couple of months (me = zero, Badger = lots) and it showed. He left me for dead and was at least a HR zone lower than I was for a given speed. He also demonsatrated a texbook example of the Badger effect...he accelerated significanlty when within two kilometres of the coffee shop we were planning to stop at. The stop at Boffee Cafe was a very welcome one as I overdid the first ride back...I was cramping after about 50km!

Bike needs a wash, but I am lazy. One of the benefits and disadvantges of waxing I guess - my bike gets ridden, but stays dirty as there is no need to wash the crud off the frame...

Captain's Log 19 Jun 22

It has been a while, and for good reason. I have been away!

The Badger has been hopeless as he didn't post once while I was gone...apparently he rode though.

While I was away, I still managed to get on the bike, but it was a little different. I hired a mountain bike and made my way out to Boulder for a roll. The views out there are amazing and well worth a look if you are keen to brave the heat and rather steep terrain. There is some good single trail tracks up there too - well worth a look!

One thing they do well in America is slow cooked meat. The brisket burger below was from and was a delightful post ride treat. I am not sure I am capable of burning enough calories in a day to eat that thing without gaining weight though...did it anyway and came back fatter (that may be seen in future posts). Thanks also to for the high quality caffeine during my time in Vegas!

Chain still looks good - have not ridden my bike for three months...nil rust!

New year, new kit thanks to Søciety Cycling and a new way to enjoy quality coffee from Josie Coffee!

I am back down in NSW and have been for a few rides before the weather got bad. We ended a ride with a stop at Josie Coffee in Mayfield and I am glad we did - they now serve cold brew soft serve with ice magic! Every cyclist knows that coffee is nectar of the gods, but Josie have managed to make it even better for hot summer days!

The Badger has mentioned the new kit before, but I figured it was my turn to weigh in. I am now just a couple of years away from officially being middle aged - a MAMIL if you will - but the cut and fit of our new kit helps me look like I am still keeping it together...despite a few extra kgs. The bibs are fantastic. They inspired me to compare myself with Ned Flanders - I may not be sexy but they feel like I am wearing nothing at all. Nothing at all. Nothing at all.

I have been waxing my chains a little more frequently lately as I have been caught in the rain while out riding. There is nothing more annoying to a fair weather rider than heading out in good weather only to be rained on half way through. My chains and drivetrain have been holding up rather well (still plenty of life left), but the cheap parts of my bike are starting to rust. I may not get through my current chains before my current bike dies...

Badger Report 24/1/22

So I am taking a leaf out of the mediocre cyclists book and am posting a day late.

Big news from last week was our Søciety Cycling kit has arrived. Was stoked to work with Matt. His design and service was brilliant. The whole process was really easy for us and an enjoyable experience. His knowledge of what works well with colours and where to put logos was brilliant as we are both useless with this sort of thing. We are really happy with the outcome and look forward to working together again. We cannot recommend Society enough for top quality kit and prices that you don’t need to sell a kidney for.

We have both been riding in it this week and had a spin around Newcastle together on the weekend. I snapped a picture of the mediocre cyclist the only time he had a stint on the front. Will endeavour to get some more pics soon.

On a stock front we are hoping to get some more of the Connex range in soon. Global shortages mean we have to wait like everyone else but hopefully more arriving soon.

Till next time,
The Badger.

Badger Report,

So I have had the first improvement to my work routine in two years this week. Instead of two weeks in Isolation I only had a week so have been getting some riding in. The weather in Darwin is pretty brutal but worth it. Getting the rides in around thunderstorms is quite challenging as well as dodging some wildlife.

It really is enjoyable riding in Darwin with great cycling infrastructure. On a loan bike and I did miss having a waxed chain. So much cleaner.

Not much else to report currently except looking forward to our full kit order coming in from Søciety Cycling. Such awesome quality and the price is even better. We are also oooking into some new stock items to offer some alternatives and will post updates as this progresses.

That’s it from me this week. Hopefully the mediocre cyclist gets off his arse next week and stops whinging about the rain and rides his bike.

Till next time,
The Badger

Badger Report,

So we have been getting some rides in around the weather which has been nice. Was stoked to receive our custom Søciety Cycling kit samples to try. We have both been riding in them and they are brilliant. We knew they would be good as I already had some but the design and quality is amazing. They are as good as much more expensive stuff I have. Looking forward to getting the full order in and getting out on the bikes in it.

We have received some more Connex stock but still waiting on some items to resuppky which hopefully won’t be to long now. Prices for some have gone up slightly and down on others so head over to www.badgerwax.com.au to check it out.

Still no wear on my two chains as I check them after the hot water rinse before rewaxing over the full length with the Connex chain checker. This gives a really good reading as there is no wax in the links and as the checker is longer than most chain checkers it measures over more links. Probably ready to replace the bike before the chains at this rate. First world problems I guess and I am sure the mediocre c6coist will want these ones as well as he is a tight arse.

Till next week.
The Badger
