There were 22,420 nominations in all the categories and it was a rigorous selection process with 4 rounds of judging over 6 months. So we are honoured and humbled to reach the state finals and be in the top six health businesses in Queensland.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS

How to better understand your annual private health insurance benefits so you can get the most out of your cover before 2022 starts.....

Your annual benefit limit is the maximum amount you can claim for a specific extras service, which resets either at the start of the calendar year or financial year, depending on your health fund. The annual limits on your extras policy will depend on your health fund and your level of cover.

If you haven't claimed up to your yearly limit before your health fund resets, it does not 'roll over' to the next year. We would recommend contacting your health fund directly to confirm your remaining benefit limit or to learn more about how your health fund operates.

You may be able to get a second pair of orthotics or perhaps just a little TLC for your feet to keep them happy and healthy as we move into Summer!

11th-17th October is Foot Health week. This year’s focus is “Love your feet and…… they will love you back”.

We’ve all undergone enormous changes to our lives since the pandemic began and this has made this theme truer than ever. Juggling continual restrictions, lockdowns, and working/schooling from home has understandably lead to new habits and priorities.

It is however important to ensure we are looking after ourselves, including our feet.

A consequence of the pandemic is that many people are now wearing less supportive or no shoes at all. This can affect the health of your feet in many ways. For example, we are seeing a higher rate of injuries to the feet such as heel and arch pain (plantar fasciitis) due to less time spent in supportive shoes. Being barefoot also tends to dry the feet out and causes cracked heels, corns and callus. Shoes are also important to protect the feet from injuries. This is particularly important for diabetic patients!

SPRING/SUMMER AND THONGS
It’s heating up! And we understand that thongs are the perfect shoes for spring/summer. But these flat thongs are not so great for your feet. A flat thong lacks support and can contribute to pain in the feet, ankles, knees and lower back.
At Entire Podiatry, we are proud to be providers of both Archies and Dr Comfort thongs. These thongs are fantastic. They look like any other thong but they have built-in arch support. Trust us, when you try these thongs this season, you’ll find it hard to go back to your flat, unsupportive pluggers!

CHILDREN and SPORT

Are your children complaining of aches and pains in their lower limbs? This could include pain in the heels, lower limbs, lower back or ingrown toenails. We know big-time athletes have professionals to take care of their feet- but what about our little athletes?
Foot pain is a very common presentation for kids this time of the year, especially due to inactivity, given the unusual times we have encountered recently. As the sport seasons are starting again, it may be time to check out how your young ones are travelling with their feet. One of the more common presentations we see is a condition called Sever’s Disease. This condition affects the back of the heels in both girls and boys between about the ages of 8-12. It can be a really painful condition and can affect your child’s willingness to participate in running and jumping sports.
If your child is suffering from heel pain, or any other pain, its best to make an appointment with one of our podiatrists at Entire Podiatry for a detailed assessment and treatment.

Did you know that we offer a service called a Medical Pedicure, or a Medi Pedi for short?
This service is essentially a pedicure conducted by our university-qualified podiatrist in a sterile and clean environment. The podiatrist will trim and smooth the nails, removing any dead, hard skin around the nails and tidy the cuticles. They will then remove any corns, callus or hard skin you may have around the feet and buff the heels. And finally massage in a moisturising emollient cream to the feet and an oil to the nails.
We also offer a paraffin wax bath option after this service, where the feet are coated in warm wax and left to soften the skin for twenty minutes- it's a wonderfully relaxing experience- trust us!
Once removed, the results are beautifully soft and smooth feet… And what’s more, if you have private health insurance then you can claim under your health fund (conditions apply).

PLANTAR FASCIITIS AND HEEL PAIN
Do you suffer from heel or arch pain? Does the pain cause you to hobble around the house in the morning before the foot finally ‘warms up’?
One of the most common causes of this pain is a very common condition called Plantar Fasciitis.

Stretching out the arch and wearing supportive footwear can provide relief. A simple way to stretch the arch is by rolling the bottom of the foot over something round like a ball or a can. Using a frozen water bottle can feel great too.
Plantar fasciitis can develop and worsen by wearing footwear with not enough support. Switching to a more supportive shoe can help to relieve the pain and allow the injury to heal.

We would like to inform all of our valued clients at Entire Podiatry about the precautions we're taking in each of our locations, due to the evolving COVID-19 situation. The well being of our patients and staff has always been a high priority, so strict hygiene standards are something we enforce everyday throughout the year. These standards include:
* Ensuring hand sanitiser (min 60% alcohol based) is readily available to all staff and patients
* Ensuring all staff are washing their hands with soap and water regularly and podiatrists pre- and post-treatment
* Being vigilant with hygiene standards ensuring all surfaces such as benches, floors, chairs, machines and products are cleaned regularly with a medical grade disinfectant spray
* Using disposable gloves and supplies for podiatry treatments
* All staff are following all mandatory guidelines relating to the use of autoclaves to sterilise instruments
