96 points! That’s right, the 2021 vintage of The Pursuit Cabernet Sauvignon has received an impressive 96-point score from Ken Gargett at Winepilot. Read on for the full review.
“From a vineyard planted around 1985, neighbouring the famous railway line between Coonawarra and Penola, maturation was for almost two years in French oak, 30% new. For me, one of the stars of this year’s releases and certainly, hands down, the top value offering.
Shades of opaque purple, this is still very young, though absolutely gorgeous. Approachable, with spicy notes, mulberries, cassis, blackberries, mint and to***co leaves. A really impressive example. Firm and abundant tannins, impeccable balance and a fine lingering finish. The intensity is maintained throughout.
A stunning Coonawarra Cabernet which will drink beautifully over the next decade or two. Wines like this would make Jim very proud of what his family is achieving.”

The winter rains are welcomed with open arms, as the rainfall rejuvenate our vines, quenching their thirst and nourishing their roots.
Coonawarra's unique terroir boasts an underground aquifer that plays a vital role in shaping our wines' character. During these rainy months, the generous rainfall seeps into the rich Terra Rossa soil, slowly replenishing the aquifer hidden beneath the surface. This natural reservoir acts as a lifeline for our vines, providing them with a steady supply of water throughout the year.
The harmony between rainfall, vineyards, and the underground aquifer is truly a winemaker's dream come true. It's this delicate balance that allows our grapes to reach their full potential, crafting wines that are elegant, vibrant, and bursting with the essence of Coonawarra.
The Baker’s Run Cabernet Sauvignon is classic Coonawarra, with generous blackberry fruits, lifted aromas of blackberry and forest fruits, cedar oak and hints of mint.
The palate is intense, with rich blackberry and mulberry fruits, complemented with sturdy and well-balanced tannins.
In addition to these fantastic flavours, the wine is highly acclaimed, awarded three Gold Medals, five Silver Medals, and an impressive 97 Point score!
Winemaker Pete brings a burst of colour and enthusiasm to the winery, rocking his collection of Hawaiian Shirts, and blasting an eclectic range of music through the speakers.
From Joy Division and Nick Cave to Courtney Barnett and The Doors, he enjoys a diversity of music that he believes helps the winemaking process.
According to Pete, ‘The music must tell a story and/or arouse emotions or moods.’ A very similar comparison to the wines that he makes.
We are in no doubt the music influences the final result, with the juice and the maker picking up on the ‘good vibes and good times’, bringing brightness and joy into the final wine blend.
Our furry friends have played an important role in the Brand family history, as companions and support for generation of winemakers in the Coonawarra region.
A legacy of Golden Labradors, were the guardians of the township, walking the kids to school bus, shadowing the winemakers in the vineyard, and making sure they got home safe during the long vintage days.
Each one, offered endless companionship and joy and leaving a lasting impression on our family, our business and our hearts.
Today, Abbey (Labradoodle) and Peggy Primose (Cavoodle) rule their respective domains and are a key part of our family and happiness!
Feeling the winter chills? Warm up with a glass of Coonawarra red! There’s no better time to indulge in the rich, full-bodied flavours from one of Australia’s finest wine regions. Cheers to wine nights and winter delights.
What makes a great winter red? Something that matches with a warm fire, a hearty meal, great company.

The Old Township of Coonawarra lies in the middle of the Coonawarra region. The town was built on the solid, narrow soil supported by the Limestone Ridge below. As it turns out - prime vineyard land.
It is the vineyards planted within the principality that have some of the most concentrated and compelling flavours within the region. Like the town itself, these vines are old and resilient. Before the days of irrigation, these vines dug their roots deep, through the limestone in search of the water table below.
Their hardened and twisted trunks belie the elegant flavours and tannins of the wines that are produced. A deft hand and gentle winemaking allow for careful extraction of the flavours of this micro-region.
Wines produced from these vineyards are generous yet elegant, intense yet subtle, with layers of fruit and secondary flavours – like our ‘Old Town’ Single Vineyard Shiraz.
As the 2023 vintage season comes to an end, we’re excited to think about the fruits of the season, and the types of wine this vintage will create.
A wet winter provided plentiful water for vine growth with a Short and furious summer setting up veraison with flavour and colour coming in strong.
As harvest loomed the weather cooled, flavours developed steadily, resulting in an earlier pick and an exquisite elegance to the wines.
Overall, another quality year for Coonawarra wine!
Autumn is here, and the Coonawarra region has never looked better, as vineyards are transformed into a breathtaking canvas of copper, gold and ruby.
What's causing this stunning transformation? Well, as the days get shorter and cooler, the vines start preparing for winter by slowing down their metabolic processes. The result is this mesmerizing tapestry of autumnal hues that we get to witness every year.
Cheers to the beauty of nature and to another bountiful harvest season! 🍷🍂
The Family Reserve Cabernets is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, three Bordeaux varieties seamlessly blending the attributes of each to produce something greater than the individual pieces.
Originally small volumes produced by the Brand family for special occasions or events, the fruit is now carefully blended, resulting in a rich and powerful wine. The nose is filled with black and blue fruits, violets and spice, the palate is dense, concentrated, and elegant.
Coonawarra is famous for its outstanding red wines - however the region also produces excellent white wines too. As a cool climate region, the ripening season is longer, meaning the grapes develop more complex flavours than some other regions.
Grown in our family-owned vineyards in the heart of Coonawarra, this year our Chardonnay is looking fantastic, with plenty of apple, peach and melon flavours, and the Riesling is brimming with fresh citrus and lemon blossom.
Thrilled to announce we’ve been named one of the Top Wineries of Australia by The Real Review, for the sixth year in a row!
It’s an honour to be recognised by the prestigious panel of expert judges for the last six years. Our small batch, premium wines are made from our family-owned vineyards, using techniques formed from over six generations of winemaking experience, highlighting the unique flavours of Coonawarra from each individual site.
Fermentation! A complex and fascinating process, but quite simple to explain – it’s the process of turning grape juice into wine.
During fermentation, yeast interacts with the sugars in the grape juice, converting the sugar to alcohol. This process is carefully monitored, to ensure we’re achieving the desired flavour profile, crafting perfectly balanced wines with complex aromas and rich flavours.
Happy Birthday to Anita Brand! A wonderful mother, wife, friend and all-round amazing human. May your day be filled with friends and family, and your glass filled with something delicious.

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter, filled with joy, chocolate, and a glass of something delicious!
Autumn has definitely arrived in many parts of Australia, and we’re still in the vineyards picking grapes – the cooler weather is the perfect excuse to crack open a bottle of red, and treat yourself to a truffle or two.
Choosing the right barrel is a key part of the winemaking process, there is absolutely no compromise on quality. As we produce a range of small-batch, boutique wines, we put a lot of effort into capturing the spirit of each vineyard, showcasing the diversity of flavours from that particular vineyard, from that year.
The choice of oak is definitely the domain of the individual winemaker, each having their own preferences.
We have a tendency to use French oak from such producers as Seguin Moreau, Quintessense, Francois Fere, but also use American and even Hungarian oak to round out the choice of flavours imparted on the wines.

During vintage, winemakers Peter and Sam spend a lot of time walking the vineyard rows, keeping a watchful eye over the grapes. It’s an important time to taste-test, eating fruit from the vines to assess the ideal time for picking.
During ripening, sugars accumulate in the grapes and the acidity levels drop. The tannins become less bitter-tasting and softer, and the grapes tastes less ‘green’ and herbaceous.
Sending birthday wishes to our winemaker Sam!
A fourth-generation vigneron, current head of Brand & Sons, and all-round nice guy. He’s currently in the vineyard watching the grapes ripen, so we’re raising a glass to him from afar.

During the month of March, the township of Coonawarra comes alive. Vintage workers flock to the region to assist with grape picking, pressing, crushing and general activity in the wineries. The smell of fermentation is in the air, and harvesters, tractors and trucks work around the clock, lighting up the vineyards at night.
Instead of using a harvester, each year we hand-pick our grapes, which is a much gentler process on the fruit, meaning the bunches are picked intact and undamaged.
Coonawarra is one of coolest climates in Australia, and due to the longer ripening season, our grapes develop more complex flavours than other regions. The first grape varieties to ripen are white, as these mature and accumulate sugars faster than red grapes.
Grown in our family-owned vineyards in the heart of Coonawarra, our Chardonnay is looking fantastic, with plenty of apple, peach and melon flavours. The Riesling is vibrant and brimming with fresh citrus and lemon blossom.
