Mark York from NSW Coarse Angling Research Club INC was kind enough to provide us the following information about the venue and Yass in general which I'm sure many will find very helpful.

Yass project: WCC Qualifiers march 17th 2018. In 18th to 20th Practice, 21st admin day, 22-24th comp from 12noon to 12 noon , 48 hours. Wind up dinner 24th after 3 pm.

Last years weather indications, Low overnight of 10, Max day time 30 average 14-24c

Taxi fare from Canberra to Yass $130-140 approx

On Wednesday evening there will be an unofficial and optional get-together at The Soldiers Club where we will also have our Prize giving dinner.

Survey 1: The venue: gentle slope banks, easy setup for a bivvy, grass short and quite sparse in areas. 2 Km of uninterrupted bank space. Easy access for vehicles. Water level in Yass is 100% and will be so for a long time to come as they are having good inflows of 500Mgl per day.

Accommodation: Anglers own responsibility. The following is an indication of costs and venues to consider. Mark will be in Yass on 10 January to meet with local businesses and to see if he can get discounted group rates.
Yass Motel for 2 people $80-95 per night. Caravan park $30 powered site and $95 for a cabin per night. Approx. at this time until we confirm numbers. Suggestion is all stay in one place to get a better deal. The caravan park may be very suitable as it offer a choice be cabins or place to pitch a bivvie. Both Venues have excellent facilities to cover everyone's needs.

Restaurants; 2 clubs, Soldiers and Bowling Clubs , KFC, Maccas, Dominos, Chinese, 2 good pubs and a Wine Bar too, Some motels have attached diners

Fuel; Caltex and United in the town.

Camping Equipment etc, Yass Outdoor and Camping 156 Comur st Yass

Supermarkets, Produce stores; Aldi. IGA and Big Woolies store too.

Hospital and Drs Offices; Yass valley Hospital 145 Meehan street Yass, Dr at My Medical Practice, 1b/63 laidlaw Street Yass.

Telstra 4gx and 4 g coverage OK upto 50Bps

Sure the above will answer many questions.

We hope to have the Aussie shirt designs any day now and will have them up as soon as we receive it.

Tight lines,
Frans

Hey Carpers, can you please tick one of the two boxes below. Fish Qualifier for Madine - France or just event.

08/12/2017

A number of people have shown interest to attend the competition but unfortunately doesn’t really know the other anglers and therefor have difficulties finding a teammate. Anglers who plan to attend also have different objectives, some simply want to be part of this great event to meet the other carp anglers and have an enjoyable time in a Carp-friendly fishing environment whereas others are more determined to achieve their goal which is to represent one of our two countries at the Finals in France. To make this process easier, we thought it would be a good idea if people can reply to this post with a mini-profile so anglers can get in contact with each other. We urge those lucky ones who are already in a team to each also respond with your mini-profile. It not only help us but will also be of great interest to those contemplating to attend. Please try to stick to the following format:

1. Name

2. Are you part of a team?

3. If Yes, what is the name of the other team member and your “Team name” if you have one.

4. Is it your goal to Qualify and go to the finals in France knowing that the cost to attend can be significant. The following could be some of the expenses, Flights, accommodation, car hire, boat hire, fishing and camp equipment hire, bait, food, spending money etc. *Note, we are trying our hardest to get sponsors onboard in an attempt to reduce these costs but cannot guarantee anything at this point.

5. Past angling experience: Example, Level (social / competitive) teams / country represented, style of fishing, years etc.

6. Current fishing style and commitment to the sport (eg. Once a week, 3 times in 2 months etc.)?

7. Where are you located: City / Town / State?

8. Anything else you want to add.

4 Person Pop-Up Tent - ALDI Australia

Those who don't have a bivvy or small tent can maybe have a look at this.....cheap as chips! Not so sure about fitting 4 people but will definitely be comfortable enough for one angler with his kit. Looks like it is today only!

Great news!!!! We have secured the venue for the competition. After looking at various dams and google scrutinising hundreds of kilometers of banks to find a suitable and fair strech of water for all competitors we finally secured our venue. Thanks to the lobbying talents of Mark York, the local fishing club and the farmer's willingness to give us access to his land, we'll be rocking up to Yass dam NSW for next year's World Carp Classic Qualifier Australasia event. Still lots and lots to do but we'll get cracking now that we know where we're going! It is not a massive dam, approximately 90meters wide but full of fish with known catches up to 15kg. Application / registration forms, competition rules etc. will soon be available. It will be a pairs competition so pick your team mate quickly before somebody else poach him! Pegs will be limited and there will be a vetting process to ensure those who attend are anglers who practice, appreciate and promote the international ethics and standards of carp angling as a sport. We are looking to host it on the Eastern bank, right side of the photo.

World Carp Classic

There has been a lot of confusion brought about by the announcement of another event taking place at the same time as the World Carp Classics 20th anniversary celebrations in 2018. A public statement will be made by the competent authorities shortly that will put a total stop to any uncertainty that there may have been. At event HQ we are busy preparing for the great 20th anniversary year ahead and celebrating the occasion with the fantastic World Carp Classic family from all over the world.

Good morning to the Aussies and good afternoon to our NZ friends! It is realy great to see the enthusiasm and hope to build on it as we go along. Like with any new project the "to do list" is long and we will provide you with more information as we tick the boxes.
Regarding sponsorships and prizes: At this early stage we do not yet have official sponsors or prizes and invite interested parties to please get in contact with us via the email button on the page or direct on [email protected]
A generous response will go a long way in making the competition more attactive for anglers who consider to attend and more affordable for those lucky ones going to the World Carp Classic finals. This competition is not only about the WCC, it is also very much about promoting and growing the sport in the Australasia region. Many will simply not be able to go to the WCC finals and it is therefore very important that we make the competition as enjoyable and memorable as possible for everyone and having a good variety of prizes will go a long way in achieving this goal.....the more the merrier!
Venue: also still to be confirmed but we are looking at a venue more or less central for most anglers. Lake Tuggeranong in Canberra is one of the venues we are having a look at. Having the competition in Canberra also offer us the opportunity to promote out sport to the politicians, Ambassadors etc. as well as highlight our concerns regarding the considered deliberate release of the Koi Herpes Virus in Australian waterways.
The teams going to the WCC finals will be the NZ team who attended last year's competition, the top performing team from Australia and third team will be the next highest placed team at the competition (Aus or NZ).
There are still lots to do and we will unfortunately not always be in a position to respond immediately to questions. Please send us an email regarding sponsorship / prizes opportunities and or other more formal enquiries regarding the competition.
Organising this event will be a team effort and we will ask for assistance as we go along. People like Mark York are already worth gold to us and I'm sure many others who have the sport's best interests at heart will follow.
Thanks for all your support thus far!!!
