Custom made wall hangings incorporating a photo of your choice to remember a loved one, either human family member or furry animal family member. Getting ready for the Medieval Fair next month.
I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year.
Our Christmas was spent with family and the New Year was spent in PJ’s cuddling our cats. 😂
I have been working on my leathercraft and have finished a medium sized tote bag. My skills still need fine tuning so practice, practice and more practice is on the menu so that I will be ready for the Medieval Fantasy Fair in April.
Just to show you what I have been doing, here are a couple of photos of my latest work.
On Sunday 3rd December Animalhouse Handmade will be at the For The Love of Dogs market / fundraiser for SEAWL with all of our items for sale.
Photos of a few items below
This may interest some. I’m in the process of making a new phone wallet.
The cutting has been done and also the dying. When it’s dry oil will be introduced to the leather to keep it supple.
Hello everyone, I am busy getting ready for a few markets to be held in November and December in Mount Gambier.
One of the markets focuses on dogs so I am making dog collars in various sizes and colours. So far the collars are hand dyed, stamped and stitched. I have also started to try phone cases for iPhones and Samsung phones. A lot of work and planning goes into making the phone cases. So much trial and error, back to the drawing board and try a different approach. Challenging, but good.
In a few weeks I'm off to Melbourne to learn more about bag making, so watch this space for more information.
Getting along with my leather work. A few dog collars I’m making.
They will be in various sizes and colours. Some are stamped with patterns and others are plain. All stitching is done by hand and the leather is vegetable tanned full grain leather and lined with a fine grade suede for comfort. Prices will start at $40.
You saw the belt from last weekends leather decorating class, now here is the bag that I started but didn't complete during the class. It's not quite finished but almost. The edges still need finishing off neatly.
As promised here are a few progress pics from today’s fun with leather.
The belt is completed and the bag will be finished at home
We dyed the leather, punched patterns, punched holes and attached the buckle.
Very noisy but still fun.
Good evening everyone. Tomorrow I venture into the realm of leather decorating. This is something I have wanted to learn for a while and not trying to teach myself. Tomorrow I will be the student and looking forward to learning.
Photos to come, depending on my success.😀
I'm still refining my techniques but am having a lot of fun (not to mention sore hands........oh dear, I just did) making items from leather. Here is my latest try, two pair of leather earrings and some key wallets
Here we are all set up at the Mount Gambier Fantasy Medieval Fair. It’s a two day event and we are here both days.
So much to see. Indoor and outdoor stalls and many events.
We will be there 😃
It's been a while since my last post. A new year and a new learning experience. This time I have decided to learn leatherwork. Not sure where it will lead, if anywhere but I love learning and I seem to love challenges and I had better love this one a lot. Leather is costly as are some of the tools needed for this trade, nevertheless I am loving what I am learning.
The ideal shopping companion, a foldable shopping bad that fits neatly into your bag. Fully lined and when opened it has a pocket on the front for keys or phone.
The photo shows the bag folded and how small it is, and then unfolded ready for use and how large it is.

The Mount Gambier show is in a couple of weeks and to help with numbers I’m entering a couple of items. One of them is a beanie.
No Covid this time but another shawl completed. It's the same pattern as the last one but it has been made using hand spun wool.
What to do when you test positive for Covid. In my case I isolated in my room (with visits from two cats)and crocheted a new shawl in cotton/acrylic yarn. A simple pattern by Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldsdottir called the Kria Shawl. It's simple pattern is both easy and beautiful. I added a simple border to add to the charm.
I have been catching up on my PhD’s and here are a couple. The inspectors were kept busy.
All done now, just a few ends to sew in. Maybe now I will start getting ready for the November market.
I think tomorrow and most of the weekend will be spent knitting, crocheting and spinning. All things I can do inside the house as I also have a sick husband who will need looking after.
Things have been very quiet around here for a while. Just needed some unwind time.
This is a little of what I have been working on……………….with the furry help of course.
Here we are all ready at the Medieval Fair. Beautiful day so come and join us. So much to see and many things to try. My favourite is the archery. Must try later.
