How I became more confident and all it involved was breaking stuff more and more.
Ever been told like hey here is this thing, maybe it's a machine or some new service you offer, or just your business. But you're told by someone else ok, so here is the thing you have to keep within these boundaries.
You canโt go over x speed, run it for x amount of time, and before you start you need to do this weird handshake, and chant this magic word ๐คฃ
Did you ever wonder what happened if you didnโt follow the rules? Well, thatโs me.
So how does this fall into becoming more confident, well lets think of an airplane pilot? Now before your like wtf has this go to do with being more confident hold tight. You should know my posts by now, grab a chair.
These guys donโt just read books, do they? Nope, real-life flying or hours in a simulation as close as they can get to the real thing. Why to know the limits so it's second nature when the sh*t hits the fan. Youโve seen these crazy stories where they lose an engine, run out of fuel or land in a lake. They had a fair idea of what the plane could do.
So you start to figure out what you got told, by someone else who got told by someone else is no longer correct. Like damn I could actually produce more widgets, hold it I could actually make more $, I could why did I believe in this โlimitโ I got told!
Only achievable if you push the boundaries, not going to happen just because you see someone else do it. You have to feel the WHOLE experience for it to sink in.
Is stuff going to break, well I bloody well hope so? Like how the heck will you know if the limit is 100% or 1000%.
And that is the โmagicโ source to being confident, you already figured out what went wrong last time. Or you can make a better judgement based on the last few failures to take a leap again.
Why is everything when you look at it super simple, but super hard to do ๐๐ค
A lot of you might be further along in business but here is one of the ways I started many times. Although the more successful ones had this one core theme.
All I did was find a problem and create a solution and then see if the market wanted it.
Most businesses I find follow a more different theme, create a solution they think fits the market. Spend a whole heap of time working on tasks that wonโt move the $ needle until later. Then launch a huge amount of time later. And then get frustrated and say it didnโt work and quit. Having burnt a lot of cash, to go round 2 is super hard.
What should you be looking for?
Problems people keep complaining about, heck you donโt need to come up with the next uber. Everyone loves to complain, more than they will heap praise on a business. Find the common theme and enough people complaining and build a solution as fast as you can on something already out there.
Why the heck would I suggest build it as fast as you can? Shouldnโt we be doing logo, branding, business cards, business plans, pointless meetings to stroke the ego. All pointless until you go to the last point.
Thats what I did, and it was then onto the next step.
See if the market actually raises their hand and this is the critical part. The pay you money, not once but a few times. Donโt get this messed up with the false metrics like family buying your stuff to support you or friends. You need people who donโt know you at all.โจโจThere are many ways to get your solution in front of people, and Iโll cover that in another post. But heck if you donโt get any people buying your solution after you tried and tested different marketing channels, different audiences.
Hereโs the thing, you go again. Either take the feedback from why people didnโt buy and go again with solution 2. Or you go again and find another problem.
May not sound sexy like every other guru, just buy my book or programme and I guarantee you will be a millionaire next week. Heck nope you need to put in some hard work, get your hands dirty.
The warning sign should always be when building a business, if it requires no real effort, some free guide thatโs you follow and in 1 day you have a business. Congratulations you have just become a consumer, not a producer.
If your getting $ buyers, your onto the next step to financial freedom congrats
Be that producer!โจโจ
Enjoy your Friday and dream big but also make sure you action those dreams!
Today you get a photo of one of my why's. Why I do this stuff
5am starts what does it look like? Well, the night before I go to sleep and just know I'm waking up at 5am and I never set an alarm. Sure enough next morning at 4:50am my body on cue just wakes up.
Am I dreading getting up? Not at all, it actually feels like Christmas morning. Like hot damn Ive got an extra 2 hours I didn't have before. I can choose my own adventure and do anything I choose. But first up its a book so I'll cover that off today as why not might as well share some insights
I grab the book I was reading from the day before at the moment its a mix between a business and found another on the miracle morning. How did I find these books? Normally its a gold nugget trail. I find one, they mention another book. Or i Just google a problem I'm facing and book after the search and voila sweet info.
I've had a good friend gift me a subscription to blinkist, great to hit a book for 10mins. If it's awesome like yesterday, I'll go find the whole book and add it to the pile.
Find this primes my day, like brain take that concept and over to you while your got random downtime during the day between different things.
Sure enough during the day as I'm driving or waiting for something to load. Good old grey matter is thinking what was that thing we read this moring. Like its trying to solve a puzzle.
And if I can I will implement and action something from what I read. As it is bits of something I'm focused on hence why I chose the book. Its super easy to action.
The trick is not to sit like a bookworm and just consume book after book. I go after books I know will fill in some problem or reaffirm that I'm not crazy other people have had this same issue and this is how they overcame it.
What do I use? My trusty Ipad. Sometimes I'll even get a hardcopy and add it to the shelves to support an author who changed my life. As kindle books and others are quite cheap. Like right now you can google any book and bamn within seconds through the magic of the internet have it sent to your device.
Kindve speeds up things unlike the old days pre internet. That's a story for another day.
Today is the day to draw a line in the sand, go ok this is where I want to go and this is the point to set that direction. For almost the past month Iโve been getting my butt up at 5am thanks to a close friend Steve Foote so as thatโs become a well formed habit its time to add some more on. Just like going to the gym, are you happy with where you are nope, good add more weights go harder.
What's the point of this post, well Facebook does a great job reminding you of where you are last year and years before. Love it or hate it this is one handy feature to journal and reflect of where you where and how far you have come. But anyway enough rambling back to the story.
For many years, decades in fact I've put myself last. Sometimes first but it never lasts something always throws a spanner in the works and that short shot of momentum dies in the ass. Some of this has been putting family first which is important but the unhealthy side is my obsession for anything business-related. Yeap I love to build stuff, but sometimes the noise of people wanting things off me takes priority. Some are valid most is not but a distraction down some rabbit hole that is not needed again.
Rather than take a number, or say No. I will prioritise some things that donโt matter first, great for others but not for good old Marky Mark. As every time those slip through the cracks another year has just been shaved off this guys life. The reality is you canโt keep trading your time forever, you canโt get it back. Funny game the old life game hey.
So today Iโm course correcting, putting Mark first. Going for what I want, and oh my gosh putting myself first.
Now before all the newbie โlife coachโ friends reach out that have snuck past my filtering of friends, the health fitness biz op guys messaging me or those dick 7 figure 8 figure do**he bags seeing an opportunity to pounce and peddle their s**t on how they can change my life. Stop! if this is you move to that unfriend button now it will save us a lot of time, Iโve got everything in place it's time to go. Yes, I always had the support, the tools, the mentors. It's there if you look but few will action as what will people think.โจ
Today I ticked off adding back in my gym fix in the morning, 30mins down. Marks Gym is re-open. Its friggen cold at 5:30 but only for 2mins to get your chubby dad bod moving. Iโll figure out what this looks like, when I post, do I post etc but day one is make a move and friggen move. And be that small pixel of hope as Mike Kemski says (you should check him out).
Oh yeah, Mark is bringing the ๐ฅ and it's time for change once again. Start putting #1 first as you can't help others if you can't look after #1 as a priority. And it's time to peel that onion.
PS, Hate my grammar or spelling, cool you know where that little unfriend button is people. Because trigger warning Iโm not going to overthink these posts, they are just going up as they come to mind and before I chicken out I'm pressing post.
Have you ever felt stuck like you have heaps of options
but it locks you up so you can't move, and then
before you know it, you've lost another year?
And that was how the crazy daily video for 211 days started.
Was going to be 365 but that's a story for another day.
Would I find my โpurposeโ, get โclarityโ, go โviralโ
I mean other big names always say put out content
Iโm going to be a millionaire well thatโs how it rolls isnโt it
just that keep grinding away, 10x your business
What was my first lesson on this journey?
Timeโฆโฆโฆ.
Itโs always ticking you canโt slow it down
It may feel like your cheating it but you
canโt Escape it, tick, tick, tick
As everyday was rolling by as I was doing
Something different and out of the comfort zone
I could remember more, sometimes it would feel
Like I got a lot done in a week, sometimes not
But my brain was no longer erasing days
Ever feel like you lost a week, well that stops
And the other thing is you will become hyper
aware of how much time you have going forward
And also how much time has passed.
Heck I had built a broken time machine
We all have that same broken time machine
It can only go forward in time which sucks
But you choose how fast you want it to go
Want to slow it down to enjoy the journey
And stop your brain erasing so much?
Well that requires shocking it a bit
And thatโs only outside the comfort zone
Pursue some project thatโs been waiting too long
Explore some area of knowledge you want to learn
Let the voice out about your business, passion,
Whatever is lighting your fire but your holding back on.
That was the first thing I learnt..
Look at this down and dirty design; it's some friggen floorboards I cut with my bare hands and attached to a $99 sewing machine. And that's how you start; you make a move!
Grab what you have and get started. We bought this sewing machine 8 years ago, which created a business that employed 10 staff members in a large factory with offices--that was the big goal when we got started. Back at the beginning of any adventure, there won't be all pieces to complete your dream project yet or close enough to where they are needed; But you will have something!
Have you been looking at your stats and wondering why they're so good but not actually getting any new leads on Google Ads?
If your running Smart Campaigns this is a budget burner of dud leads
You're now paying for most of your customer service enquiries as well
Yeap those suppliers calling you, yeap your most likely paying for them

Hope this helps someone may be struggling with overthinking things...
Last year I started a podcast, and it kicked in big-time the overthinking.
First was the adrenaline rush I was going to do it.
So I grabbed a course to speed things up, the guy said to keep it simple don't overthink this.
But as usual, you feel like you have to tweak the recipe slightly
Do I have the equipment needed
Off to google microphones, check pricing
Then onto do, I have the software, maybe there is something better
And weirdly it didn't stop there as I pressed record now was the room perfect as it had an echo.
Omg, this has turned now into a task that should take a couple of hours to days and if I didn't stop weeks with no start yet.
Now I was so far down the rabbit hole I stopped
I just opened my laptop, plugged in my headphones that came with my phone and followed the instructions and hit record.
Everything I used was the things I had.
So what was the outcome it sounded perfect, people were shocked I had used my phone headphones?
The solution was there all along, don't overthink things as the cost is your time and well there is only a finite amount of that available isn't there?
P.S. - keep an eye out for new podcast episodes I'm back.
Questions I get asked now: So mark have you retired since selling calming moments? taking a well-deserved break? what are you going to do next?
To be honest I didn't stop in fact if anything my passion is just getting stronger and now have more time to focus on my small business owner tribe a lot more. Rather than be one of those people who tell you what I'm going to do, I would rather be the person who gets out there and well just actions.
So thanks to all the friends who comment, like and share on my posts it means a lot and if your a small business owner total respect to you for taking that leap and look forward to connecting more in the future.
Here's a random pic of me having no idea I was going to be called upon the stage as a new member of Peel CCI. It was one of my weeks of action yeah it was at a funeral home, there was a lot of business owners there, my speech was unplanned and probably rough but damn it's good to be back out surrounded by lots of small business legends again.
This week I had the pleasure of interviewing ๐ one of the dynamic duo Feel Good Fitness WA.
In a crowded marketplace of gyms ๐ช and fitness centres have found their niche, passion and dominate it. Meet Steve! Owner of Feel Good Fitness WA. Steve and Hayley started this business out of a passion to guide complete beginners in an environment with no intimidation and judgement.
Find out how he started his business from a single room in his house ๐ to a double-storey building catering more than 300 clients. ๐ฎ
In this episode, we will hear ๐ his struggles as a beginner in business and how his great determination, purpose, and reason help him overcome these challenges. ๐๐๐ Find out how he just started going live on Facebook and what fears stops most people pulling out the phone ๐ฑ and just going for it.
