This time of year is known as ‘Koala Trauma Season’, with more Koalas attempting to cross local roads during these warmer months. Our partner, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital is actively working to save these precious Koalas.
Renshaw the Koala, featured here with Vet Nurse Kate, is an example of how tough it is for our Koalas in the wild.
Renshaw was hit by a car and suffered fractured ribs, lacerations and then also tested positive for chlamydia.
Each Koala is precious and complicated to treat, so we need your help to save patients like Renshaw.
Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has admitted an extra 51 Koalas so far this year, which is 20 percent more than the same time last year. Last year there were 261 Koalas admitted.
In more positive news, we’re pleased to report that over 300 Koalas have now been vaccinated against chlamydia which will ultimately help to reduce admissions in the future.
Our Koala Chlamydia Vaccine Research Program now includes 45 Koalas including 21 joeys that have been born into the program.

There are lot of activities for the whole family, including a reptile and creepy crawly show, spider lair, a slime workshop and a spooky maze in the vegetable garden. 👻Get your scariest costumes and treat bags ready, and come along to the Old Cheese Factory on Tuesday 31 October for a night of spooky fun. Between 5.00 pm and 9.00 pm, one of Casey’s oldest sites will become a Halloween playground for kids under the age of 12 and families to enjoy a range of activities and entertainment, including an outdoor disco and DJ, roving performers, and the ever-popular face painting. Robots, princesses and a mad science show will take over the main stage. 🎃
🧙♀️There will also be Storytime with Connected Libraries, a reptile and creepy crawly show, spider lair, a slime workshop and a spooky maze in the vegetable garden. Trick-or-treat stations will be set up across the factory grounds, with lots of sweet treats from Fyna Foods Australia. Zombies, ghosts, fairies, witches and gremlins. Tickets are now on sale for Fright Walk at Wilson Botanic Park. To be held on Saturday 28 October between 6.00 pm and 9.00 pm, come along if you dare and venture into the park to trick-or-treat, while meeting some creepy characters along the way.
There will be a lantern making workshop, a magician and air brush tattooing. Trick-or-treat stations will be set up across the grounds, with lots of sweet treats from Fyna Foods Australia. There will also be food trucks and a coffee van to keep you fuelled during the evening.
This spooktacular event is suitable for children aged 12 to 17 years. This is a ticketed event, and numbers are capped. Cost is $10.00 for kids and $2.50 for supervising adults.
