Hair clips! Yay or nay?

Personally, I’m a fan of decorating my hair (this may also explain the rotating colourwheel my hair is every year! 😅) I’ve had the findings to make hair clips for the better part of a year, but thanks to the lovely Sharon, I finally jumped in and now have my first hair clip available!

I’ll definitely be making hairclips an option on some brooch designs going forward! 🥰

Do you have favourites in the Avatar The Last Airbender universe?

I could not choose a fave episode, there are SO many fantastic ones! Characters.. I heavily ship Zutara (Zuko ❤️‍🔥🌊 Katara headcanon, even though I cling to any tiny moments in the show 😅), and I absolutely adore Toph!

I’ve taken some of my favourite quotes and popped them onto cute little speech bubble brooches! These all have hand-painted detail, and as such may vary from piece to piece!

I hope that if you’re a fan of AtLA, that you can find some enjoyment and giggles in these designs!

I released these as earrings and a mini brooch years back in a different material. I adore the Goonies film & thought these would be fun to bring back for a short run!

These are in a shiny solid gold metallic acrylic, measuring approx 7cm down from your lobes (they key itself is approx. 5cm)

Welcome to our second Reading Dragon brooch, the dark & broody Cassian. He has recently begun reading spicy romance novels (inspired by a certain valkyrie perhaps? 😅)

Cassian is similar in size to Killian, however he is only 2 layers thick and a ligher brooch. With a body made from a rich lead-grey scale marble, a hot pink belly, and gold mirror & hot pink accented wings, horn & tail fork. His miniature book hangs from his tail fork, open for convenient reading!

Sizing is approx. 8cm x 4.5cm

This brooch was designed with an unfinished piece of artwork I started a few years ago. It was intended to be Lysandra & Aedion from Throne of Glass, but I never could get them painted how I wanted. So, I am super happy to ressurect my sketch into a brooch!

📚️ I adore doing portrait brooches, and this was no exception. The tiny details were a challenge, but I enjoyed adding the small painted facial features. The characters are inlaid into the pages of the book, with a top layer of flyaway hair sitting above the inlaid design.

Sizing is approx. 6.5cm x 4.5cm

I joked yesterday on Facebook that I named my new collection because it’s exactly what I want for Christmas. Totally not joking though 🤣

📚️ Merry Bookmas Brooch is very festive in colour with its 2 variations of green marble books, festively tied with a deep red marble ribbon with swirls of liquid gold through it, and red mirror for the inner ribbon shadows.

I reallllly wanted to do a second colourway - you all know I find those hard to resist - but I’ve been good! Did I make the right decision? 😅

Shout out in the comments below if you think I should add another colourway to this brooch or keep it to the festive look!

🎄 The Peppermint Tree is a beautiful mint-green glitter-sparkle marble decorated with pink baubles, a rose gold mirror star and rainbow glitter tinsel.

🎄 The Cool Mint Tree is the palest blue glitter-sparkle marble, decorated with blue rainbow tinsel & pearlescent shades of blue baubles and a silver mirror star!

📚️ To throw my own spin on the Xmas Tree, I’ve used a stack of books as the tree trunks!

I’ve also spent a lot of my downtime this week reading, which has been just the best feeling that I have missed! My dear friend Emma James Author recommended the Knockemout series by Lucy Score and I could not put TWNGO down! I was only able to get Books 1 & 3 at the store, so I ordered Book 2 online and it finally arrived this morning! I know what I am doing this weekend!! 😁😁😁💚

I wasn't always Fictional Alchemy. 9 years ago I began my self-employment journey as Booknerdfangirl, doing artwork and book cover commissions for authors. I got to work with some incredibly talented humans during those years of my journey! 🥰

Years later, while I no longer do commissions for authors, I still love reading their amazing novels. Now I love being inspired to create in a different way - through designing to create in laser-cut acrylic!

🏴‍☠️ 8 years ago today, on an ITLAPD, I was lucky enough to meet the lovely & talented Dante Basco who signed my Zufio artwork at a Brisbane Oz Comic-Con !

🦜 I can honestly say this was one of the funnest artworks I have created. I love both of these characters so much & it was amazing to me when I found out they were both played by the same person! It still brings me so much joy when people see it up at cons and have a giggle in recognition!

A lovely lady got my Golden Clace artwork signed by Kat, so she came by to check it out in person! We had a fun chat about Malec and a laugh about Jace Waylands Book Club brooch that I had made 😅 🥰

How's everyones week been? I have had one mad day after another this past week, from setting paper on 🔥 in my laser to running late to appointments and losing a day of work due to having to pull apart my dust extractor only to find it was super clogged up!

It's Sunday now though, not usually a work day for me, but today it most definitely is so I can play catch up! I've got my to-do list to tick off while Book Boxes are cutting behind me, but I'm thinking I need to go and read sometime later this afternoon to wind down! 😅📖

I binge-read The Boys of Bellerose by Jaymin Eve - Author and Tate James this last week, pictured with some of my new metal bookmark designs that I'll have at Ballgowns And Books Event and photographed by my amazing friend Bec (.bookish.soul on Instagram!) 💕

This series was a ❤️‍🔥super intense❤️‍🔥 read that I really loved! But it's left me with a book hangover 😅 So, it's been a couple of days since I've picked up another read!

The proceeds of these anthologies will be donated to our charity of choice - Hawkesbury Helping Hands. Anyone in Australia probably knows how badly the Hawkesbury region has been hit in the last few years with floods (as have many regions on the east coast), and this charity has done incredible things to help the region in both times of disaster and on a daily basis. They are entirely volunteer run and unfunded by the government so rely heavily on charitable donations and support.

Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands was established in 2011 by Cassidy Strickland, then 8 years old, who after witnessing a hungry man rummaging through her family bin for food, decided at that very moment to do something and that food and dignity was something she could try and help with and so along with her mum Linda, HHH was born. Giving a helping hand to people in their community with no judgment.

For over 9 years, every day of the week, Hawkesbury's Helping Hands Inc has supported those experiencing homelessness or at risk homelessness. Providing love, care, kindness, food, toiletries, clothing, shoes, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, swags, pet supplies also advice on services available and if possible, support with accommodation.

Free meals are served Saturday and Sunday evenings in a local park. To date over 500, 000 meals of food have been served.
Since 2012 HHH have hosted a "Christmas Day Get Together". It is a free lunch on Christmas Day with no strings, no questions and no judgement, for anyone who may find themselves alone on that day.

Six years ago the formal wear program was started, collecting and distributing formal wear, to ensure that no student couldn’t attend their farewell, formal or graduation because they couldn't afford anything to wear. “Hiring” (for free) complete outfits for both genders.

Currently HHH are supplying over 400 breakfasts weekly in three different schools through their “Breakfast Club - Fuel for Learning” program, soon to be expanding into two more schools. In 2020 over 16,000 breakfasts were served in three schools and 12,000 school lunches made and provided.

This year through their backpack drive, HHH were able to distribute 270 backpacks full of school supplies.

They also work alongside and support many other charities and organizations, and work closely with numerous agencies, who often refer their clients

But most importantly they are here to let people know, that someone cares, truly cares, offering help, kindness and dignity 365 days of the year.
