Some great tips on what to do if you find your dog with a snake!

'Hank the Tank' and the second most venomous snake in the world.

Yep, that's an Eastern Brown in his mouth!!!

What would you do if you came home to see this?

Hanks mum did the right thing and it is probably the reason Hank has lived to tell the tale.
She first noticed the snake in Hanks mouth and tried to convince him to drop it.
He wouldn't so she quickly snapped this photo to get an ID and hurried her other dogs inside. By the time she came out, Hank had dropped the snake, allowing her to pick Hank up and rush him to the vet!

Hank had to stay at the vet for 24 hours, had some clotting in his leg from the antivenom and has now made a full recovery at home.

Things to remember if you see your dog/cat with a snake in its mouth:
🐍Do not try and handle the snake/get too close (your safety is extremely important and there's no point you getting bitten as well)
🐍 Encourage or wait for them to drop the snake
🐍If possible get a photo/ID of the snake to tell the vet
🐍Rush straight to the vet (even if you're not sure if they've been bitten. It's better to be safe than sorry).

Some signs that a pet has been bitten:
-Reduced blinking/dilated pupils
-Vomiting and drooling
- Bleeding from bite sounds or in vomit/urine/faeces
-Weak/lethargic
-Muscle tremors/shaking
-Complete/partial paralysis
-Inability to control bowel/bladder
-collapsing followed by a brief period of recovery

Do not wait to see these signs though because then it may be too late. The best way to help your pet is to get them medical care ASAP!!
