If you took part in the Banksia quiz in our stories yesterday you’ll understand the reason for this post ☺️

It’s not surprising there’s confusion when there’s a total of 173 different Banksia species! Who knew? 🤷‍♀️And only one of those doesn’t grow here in Australia and two are listed as rare or threatened.

They are named after Sir Joseph Banks who, in 1770, was the first European to collect specimens of these plants.

The flower heads are made up of hundreds (sometimes thousands) of tiny individual flowers grouped together in pairs. Most species flower through Autumn and Winter and mostly in ranges from yellow to red.

This beautiful filler flower was named after a German botanist, Dr H Scholtz, who studied ferns.

This pretty pink and white shrub grows in WA and can reach 2m high with flowers all the way up the stem. Its 5 petals are supported by the cutest oval or even heart shaped leaves on its woody stems. 💜

One of my favourite filler flowers, Australian Grown and filling our boxes, bags and bouquets now - like these ones today ☺️
