We have some exciting news! CCDA member, Chloe Karsten, has been selected to represent Australia at the Virtus Equestrian Championships in the UK in July 🙌.

Chloe was born with a heart defect, cerebral palsy and legally blind. She lost her hearing at age 3 and had four open heart surgeries before she turned 5. None of which have prevented her from a series of impressive equestrian achievements culminating in her being the youngest athlete, at only 16 years old, to be selected to represent Australia at this event.

As an emerging athlete, Chloe does not qualify for funding so her family is hoping the community will help make this dream a reality. All support will be greatly appreciated. Good luck, Chloe, CCDA is so very proud of you! ❤️

CCDA regrets we will not be able to run our June competition due to a lack of judge availability on these dates. This is obviously very disappointing for our committee but we are in the process of discussing future options with our venue, Stonewall Equestrian, and in collaboration with DNSW. We hope to be able to announce a new date next week.

We’d like to thank the judges that did respond and all the wonderful judges that have supported our past events and will support us in the future. The shortage of judges not only puts pressure on OCs who have to either cancel, limit their classes or pay substantial extra travel for judges further afield, but also puts significant pressure on accredited judges who want to help out but are overwhelmed by the volume of requests.

So let’s take this opportunity to acknowledge how very valuable are the people who serve as dressage judges. In this role they receive a basic stipend and expenses, have to get up earlier than most the competitors to travel to the event, sit in cars in all sorts of weather and not lose concentration for a sustained period of up to 40 tests in a day. These people have their own lives - families, horses, pets, farms that need looking after in their absence. Their contribution gives competitors feedback on their competency, metric scores, rankings, qualifiers, maybe a moment of elation, maybe pause for reflection. All from people who invest significantly in their training in their own time. Thanks to every one of you, without your selfless contribution, our sport wouldn’t exist. 🙏🙏🙏

Sorry some people missed out on our Brett Parbery Masterclass deadline. We’ve re-opened it to let you make your purchases as we want as many as possible to benefit from this event and are thrilled with the response so far with close to 150 enthusiastic spectators attending ❤️

We’ve also opened a Stonewall Equestrian grounds familiarisation opportunity on Saturday 27th before the Masterclass while Brett works with some of the MC riders. This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the set out of the grounds for future competitions, ride on the wonderful sand fibre arenas and give your horse a bit more exposure without any pressure as the marquees will be up and there will be some horses around. Look forward to seeing you there!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED URGENTLY IF CLASSES ARE TO RUN THIS WEEKEND, ESPECIALLY PRELIMINARY!

We are always excited by the enthusiasm with which riders enter our events. For our championships, we’ve had nearly 300 entries. But to host these events our volunteer committee need another 40 volunteers to sign up. Inevitably we end up signing up as well as doing our other roles but there simply aren’t enough of us to fill all the spots.

We have several positions needing to be filled on Saturday, particularly at Preliminary level which is the best introduction to pencilling. We have committee members on hand before the classes begin to make sure you’re comfortable with the tablets. There are also Marshall positions on Saturday which involves greeting prelim riders in the grass warm up, marking them off the draw and reporting any falls or incidents, all under the supervision of an accredited steward so a critical but simple job for someone kind enough to help.

We offer refreshments and out-of-pocket allowances. If you’re a member, there’s a credit to being eligible for end of year pointscore. Most importantly you can give back to your sport, enhance your knowledge of dressage and know your helping so many others be able to ride. Please help us help you! 🤗🤗🤗
