As part of the Chinese Medicine community, we are excited to bring your attention to a collaborative project between RMIT and the Northern Hospital, that aims to address the significant need for non-drug therapies to combat acute pain:

Personalised Acupuncture in Northern Hospital Emergency Department for Acute Pain (PANDA)

Approximately one in three to one in two people presenting in Emergency Departments experience some form of pain. Acupuncture is a safe and effective non-drug, opioid-sparing therapy for acute pain in Emergency Departments and post-operative settings. PANDA, a milestone project, will test if and how registered acupuncturists can work alongside doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists in the Emergency Department at Northern Hospital to improve patients’ experiences and reduce suffering from acute pain.

This 3-year project will help develop protocols and frameworks for implementing acupuncture in Australian hospitals for acute pain and facilitate policy changes.
