Each of our girls deserves a great start. It’s part of our school’s enduring blue heart.

Join us for Giving Day next Tuesday 27 August, and support the BGGS Bursary Program, which transforms the lives of girls who would otherwise not have the opportunity to access a Girls Grammar education.

We'd like to thank the rowing community for your efforts and positivity in setting up such a successful event. A special thank you to the Rowing Support Group for funding our new boat, Velocitas, which was christened on the day.

One of Girls Grammar’s most exciting student-led sustainability projects is Precious Plastics. Each year, students collect, wash and shred plastic lids—which cannot be recycled—to develop reclaimed products. This year, students are using the material to create bag tags, which will be a wonderful addition to the Schools recycled collection of pens, carabiners and Jenga blocks.

Design student, Stephanie Ku (11B) developed the design below, which has been turned into a mould for the tags. We can't wait to watch the design come to life.

✨Fresh✨ Bag Tag mould, headed to Brisbane Girls Grammar School as the students kick off their plastic recycling journey! Can't wait to see how these ones come out - loving this artwork design!!

BGGS alumna, Fiona Qiu (2017), continues to follow her musical passion, excelling as a recognised violinist. In her final year at Girls Grammar, Fiona balanced her duties as Griffith House Captain and Student Council member with the many ensembles in the Music Department. Fiona pursued this passion, studying a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, then took her talent to Europe where she studied under some of the world's best violin teachers. She has been the recipient of many prestigious awards including the Ena Williams Award for Postgraduate Studies overseas.
In 2021, Fiona moved to Melbourne to train at the Australian National Academy of Music, and is now completing her Master's degree at the Mozarteum University in Austria.

We would like to wish Year 12 student Kathryn Petersen the best of luck as she represents Australia this week at the International Biology Olympiad in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Kathryn and her three fellow teammates outperformed thousands of other students in qualifying exams and intensive training to earn their place on the team.

Congratulations to Kathryn from Brisbane Girls Grammar School in Queensland. Kathryn has been selected for the team representing Australia at the 2024 International Biology Olympiad, from 7 to 14 July in Astana, Kazakhstan.

🌟 Kathryn’s experience in previous Olympiads, including the Junior Science Olympiad Spring School and holiday Math Camps, have shaped her love of science into a both challenging and rewarding passion.

☄️ She loves both biology and astrophysics, thanks to their continuously new and engaging arising concepts, and in the future Kathryn aspires to become a researcher in one of these fields, or perhaps even both!

☀️ Kathryn’s favourite parts of the A*O Summer School at the ANU were the practicals in the lab, even though she admits she hasn’t had much experience with them before. Regardless, she found the hands-on experience incredibly engaging and a highlight of her time of learning in Canberra.

🌏 Looking forward to the International Biology Olympiad, Kathryn is excited for the opportunity to meet students from around the world, where she can’t wait to gain a deep understanding of biology and exchange culture cultures with equally interested students from around the world.

🚴🏽 Outside of her scientific pursuits, Kathryn enjoys playing the cello, participating in Olympiad math, biking, and video games.

🍄 Kathryn’s advice to aspiring scientists? “Don’t be afraid to give it a go, even if you don’t think you’ll do well.” And anything else? “Always ask if something is toxic before eating it.”

🌏 Good luck in Kazakhstan, Kathryn. 🌏
